In 1948 I was 16 years old and worked in a dance hall checking hats & coats. The band played the tunes from the 20's & 30's Thanks so much as this music takes me back. I also learned all the old dances and when not busy danced with the old gals What fun
That sounds like so much fun! I myself have been a coat check, (in music clubs/ bars). I could only IMAGINE how cool it must have been to experience 1940's big bands..and all those well dressed ladies and gents! You guys really knew how to dress back then.
Old gals, my foot! If you learned the 'old dances', etc., you were dancing with old gals who weren't old gals then. If you mean more like, now, you're likely to be an 'old pal'... But I suspect you were 16 then and so were they. LOL!! Dammit! You reminded me, I'm only a year behind you! 15 then!
What a time to have been alive! Both my parents were there! They had 3 kids by then, 8,6, and 2. Six more after that!! I love history. I only wish my parents told me more stories of their past. The ones they did tell me were fantastic! You were too young for the war, what a rich and powerful history.
I have an idea. You are only 90, I'll bet you could start a very successful RUclips simply sitting in a chair reciting your stories. You lived through world War II. your perspective would be fantastic! Lupuspect perspective of an 8 to 16-year-old. I'm sure you have some great stories!!
It occurred to me these old songs and movies from the 30's are the perfect balm for today's panic, riots and pandemics. During the Great Depression people listened to the radio and went to the movies to find a bit of solace, peace and hope. I'm grateful that my grandparents told me stories of the old days and I watched the old movies with them. It reminds me of innocent happy times.
That's right. No better place to be than knowing who you are and what you enjoy. No explanations necessary! I started listening to swing when I was 17 and I'm 60 now.
@@susanmoran5226 I agree totally. Angela Mae Abellar, just take no notice of your friends, it's none of their business what you enjoy. You have good taste in music .
I'm 20, I know exactly how it feels when your friends taunt you as 'old school' for listening to these kind of stuff. But this is exactly what sets you apart. Be proud of who you are and your taste in music.
I’m mid-70’s. My Dad bought/collected 78’s since the 20’s. Those were his treasures, sharing the love of this music ever since I could listen and hum along. A true loving gift from Dad.
It's raining outside... The cold blanket is very comforting... As i hold my mug of hot coffee... It makes my heart warm... My mind is dancing... While listening to this... No one knows about this side of me... And if ever they will... Then they will... You really read this comment huh I am just enjoying everything right now ....
I wish there were still young people my age who could dance and enjoy themselves to this type of music and places where you could go with your friends to dance to these songs. In 2021, this playlist just makes me so nostalgic for times when we could talk to strangers and get together with friends. I miss socializing and spontaneity. I miss joy and romance and excitement. I guess I’ll just dance to this alone in my room.
These are great songs :) They definitely help calm me down. Really grateful to be able to appreciate them with older folks on the internet. It makes it all the more satisfying. Hope you're safe and well!
I love listening and living like it's 1950s just like my grand parents and also my favorite golden age stars. I'm a biggest fan of Vintage/Golden Age. I'm 16yrs old :)
Not really really, but your beautiful imagination carries you into your personell Paradies, which is a source that is needed. This music is a perfect for it. Have a great day! 🌸😊⭐️
Love this! I remember some of these tunes from old movies. I'm in my early 70s, so all of this sounds familiar; there was still nostalgia for it in the early 50s as the big bands died out. I always felt that I was born too late. Here were real musicians, real song writers, writing with nuance and elegance. None of the "let's do it in the street" 60s stuff I grew up with in my teens. Thank you!
I love sipping a Manhattan listening to this in my smoking jacket...it makes the night pass so nicely. Modern music has its uses, but nothing beats this on a summer night
Loving these tunes, so much fab! Listening to these, being influenced by my late father who passed away recently. He had a lot of 78s stashed away that I used to listen to! I used to nick off with jazz big band and rhythm n blues stuff, even though I was brought up with 70s disco and Grease stuff! I'm 56 dad was 82. I love most music, but this vintage has a special at moment.
Music for the soul ,uplifting full of heart felt warmth unlike most of the modern noise we hear today, I think it was due to the fact this era was between two wars and people had a true sense of compassion and human worth born out of the suffering of war
This music reminds of me of my childhood days I spen at my grandfather's house. He loved art, movies and music and a lot of his passions rubbed off onto me

Delightful! Only Hildegarde and Benny Carter were new names to me. I remember all the others on the radio when I was a kid during the war. Some appeared later on early TV & my parents had a record of Jean Sablon singing "Sur les Ponts d'Avignon", practically the first words I learned in French!
Don't know how you did it, but you nailed it!!!!! Thank you so much, I've been painting my house and drinking champagne and listening to this over and over. Took me back to a place i've never been.....

Love this! Puts me somewhere else. I like looking up at a full moon over an open area like a backyard or a passenger in the back seat on a long car ride on an empty highway looking out and up into the open dark sky.

Makes me want to dance with my broom all around the kitchen...it takes me away to a place I've never been.
