Davin C hey, em, you said your culture so I made out your from Hawaii. I'm moving to Hawaii in June and I don't know what to expect, how are the schools, are the people nice and how will the Hawaii kids react to a pale Irish kid, I'm so nervous but also excited.
My mom grew up in Hawaii until she was 9 years old, but my great great grandma came to Hawaii from Okinawa at the turn of the 1900s. She raised me like a Hawaiian. Nani was my Disney princess for a long time. She looked like me and my cousins. I still love the only Disney movies that show a way of life not many people get to see. Mahalo nui loa Disney!!❤
I first saw this movie when I was 5, and it's still one of my favorite Disney movies to this day ! ❤️ I've wanted to visit Hawaii and learn more about their culture ever since.
I was fortunate enough to be part of Kumu Mark's halau when they came and made the film of our Wahine dancing" Kalakaua He Inoa". We got to see the early rushes. It was a very thrilling time formHula dancers and for Hawaiians. To this day keiki are dancing this traditional dance. Kumu actually wrote Hawaiian Roller Coaster too. Over the beginning credits is the traditional chant to Liliuokalani, the last queen. The man who plays the kumu is Kanewa Mook, one of the finest Kumu in Hawaii and consistently a winner of Merrie Monarch Festival. Oakland CA 2022
They actually were very strict on the message they let the directors give on movies and this was an experimentation time for disney and after this movie they fired one or both of the directors because jon lassiter hated him and was angry the movie did so well
Check out the Vulture oral history of this movie. They went into so much depth about the making of this, including how Tia Carrere was the one who suggested Aloha ‘Oe be included.
Man, I love this movie!! So glad I grew up with this. and does anyone know where @3:31 - 3:35 would be in the song? in another clip, the first half of it is mirrored.
@@relix0228 yeah, I know the name of the song. I'm referring to the timestamp I just showed. I'm asking if you or anyone know where the dance moves go in the song.
@@relix0228 lol that's okay. do you know where the dance moves in the time stamp goes in the movie? half of the dance during the beginning is not shown.
@@mileycyrusfan197 The dance move you've time stamped is sadly not shown in full view since the scene was focused on the kids waiting for their entrance along with lilo running to the studio as far as I know
A know a lot of indigenous Hawaiian, Polynesian and other South Pacific Islander peoples feel disrespected by all of this, but I'm 100% Roma and adopted from Eastern Europe and I have to deal with Stromboli and Esmeralda. I'd take this over people thinking my characters are Black, Mexican or (Ashkenazi) Jewish. I'd rather have my culture embraced than deal with racist sterotypes and plots that fail to explain our actual Browness and the depth of our oppression.
Fun fact: Lilo in Hawaiian means lost and so lilo and stitch mean to be lost and then put back together
Wow that's deep and awsome
Yup
🥺🥺🥺🥺 stoooop 🤧
I'd be lying if I say this didn't bring tears to my eyes, the love and appreciation for my culture shown through this film. Mahalo nui loa

move movies should be made like this: with respect and accuracy to the culture
Except Mulan..I grew up with the Mulan movie and the live action is just not empowering like the animated one.
Cant wait to see the colombian Disney movie
@@vallgonzall3084 how did you feel about Encanto?

Nah fuck that we just gonna take little mermaid and make her black

Saw it twice in theaters when I was 4. Glad I grew up with this movie and not the Goddamn frozen fan base!
ilovelegos2000 yeah that’s a musical which I hate
Blame it on Elsagate.
Done with such accuracy ! Why did Mulan 2020 go so wrong!

Beautiful... I'm so grateful to have been a child when this movie was released.. I hope to visit Hawaii someday, i might cry when it happens haha
My God, Lilo and Stitch had to dive for Moana to swim 🤩 this will forever be one of the best Disney classics and it will withstand the test of time.
OMG, the banner says ''Merrie Monarch''! I just noticed it after so many years! I love this movie.
What a great culture. Thank you for sharing :)

I just noticed the banner saying Merrie Monarch Festival! :'} Good job to the animators. I wish they would have done that for Tiana.
What do you mean? What exactly did they do here that you wish they did?
such a great movie.
Jason scott lee was my childhood crush due to his amazing portrayal of Mowgli in the 1994 jungle book

Cried to the dancing and I'm not Hawaiian!
Nice
I’m crying 😭
Back when Disney was good and actually cared about the series they made.
What’s crazy is Jason Scott Lee played Bruce Lee and I thought he was Chinese
He's mixed hawaiian and chinese

They represented Hawaii , yea? Whole movie about Child protective services . Why can't it be about something else ? Sadness
Kahealani Nakoa thats 😆
is that all you got out the movie sis? hawaii is not all happiness and rainbows
The reason they did that was to emphasize on "ohana"
Were you dropped on your head as a baby or something?
There is more to it lol
