  • These new chain tensioners from Alienation are a simple and elegant solution to a long time problem BMX has dealt with from the beginning!
    Built in chain tensioners can break and also have to be loosened in order to remove the rear wheel of a bike. These Alienation c jerks are easily removed and essentially put the rear wheel in a slammed state at any position in the drop out. Such a cool solution that is available now!

    Cool little thing, can sure help especially on new complete bikes. Might need 2 sizes for when replacing the chain. I used to sell salt chain tensioners as "frame savers", keeps the dropouts from bending in so its a bonus feature!

    Simple used to make some of those in a small size, just about the size of a spacer like the ones used with the axle nuts, then a bigger spacer that fit right over that one and it was about peg size. I tried them but they didn't work for me cause the filler piece had a shape that didn't fit perfectly at all between the front of the axle and the end of the dropout slot, so I started making my own out of just a small piece of 14 ga spoke that I would shape up with pliers and that worked perfect. I'm currently using a 3/32 chain pin on each side and it's the best thing since sliced bread

    I really like this idea because it was always said a slamed wheel Never needs to be adjusted again. Unfortunately that's near impossible to do with proper gearing and chain tension. Once you get it right it always loosens off of over time resetting all the "progress" you made. I'm gonna check these out for sure

  • @kirkwickham3336
    @kirkwickham3336 2 года назад +6

    Cool product. I'm sure I saw something like this over a decade ago. Personally, I prefer integrated chain tensioners but these would do a better job of holding your wheel exactly where you want it, whereas integrated ones will bend if the rear wheel takes a hard enough hit. On a side note, I always get jealous when I see Brant's hollow Key Chain.

    • @alistairbuckle3450
      @alistairbuckle3450 2 года назад +1

      I think integrated chain tensioners are just for setting up the rear wheel - the axle bolts or nuts should take 100% of the force. I usually find mine have backed out after riding, probably from vibration.
      I find it a lot faster to simply pull the wheel to one side of the frame and tighten that side then pull the wheel to the other chain side of the frame and tighten that side. So these precision collars would probably make that process easy without needing to guess chain tension.
      Definitely recommend changing chain tensioner screws for stainless steel so they don’t rust and strip.

    This reminds me of that one Ali G short about eliminating all denominations of change so we have "just bills." Like the idea of a $37.76 US bill is the same as having Chain Tensioners for all these lengths. You either gotta promise me that trends will no longer stretch or shrink chain stays AND that there is gonna be a way to "stack" tensioners and get longer or shorter lengths for 20"+ bikes.

      A wheel essentially being slammed and not able to move is definitely a positive but the main point is to not have to struggle with wheel placement or chain tension. Something like this makes it easy to get just right and repeat every time.

    • @googleaccount4159
      @googleaccount4159 2 года назад +3

      I don’t think you understand what chain tensioners are for. I mean the clue is in the name. They’re for getting fine adjustment and holding your wheel in place while you tighten up.
      ….and that’s where these completely fall down. Literally zero adjustment. Zero, none, nadda. Every time you get a new sprocket, chain or driver your chain tension will be completely different and may even require you to buy another different size of these things. Just a bad concept all round.
