Fly Bikes Manual CNC SH Brake by far the best 990 brake I have ever used. Easy with no tension adjustment set up required. Buttery smooth brake pull. I've never felt a better feeling 990. Hands down!
At first I thought , what could be revolutionary, but now I see the bearings!?! Dude! The other day my 990 mount on my rear came off , I’m guessing from friction but it was greased also. The bearings are a sick idea and seriously makes me want to give these a try !
Those are nice brakes. One thing that's a factor with rear brakes mounted on the chain stays is height (thickness) of the brakes, in relation to the chain.
Been looking for demo Vulcan or revenge brakes purely for the bearings but no Aus distro has em. deffs Gunna cop these for the front and back when they come out
Brakes look awesome. Thrilled about the bearings. I'd like to see a salmon clear brake pad colorway. Both those colors seem to always work. I think the brakes have a very great and simple design. No extra cut outs. What tire width will it be able to hold? Will those pads be available separately? Hope they come in some cool colors. But it looks like it might need more cow bell 😂
Can you do a replaceable pad? So the black part is fixed and then you slide new pads in once they wear out or fail. This way you only need to set you brake pad once
I noticed those brakes a couple videos ago and was going to comment asking who made them and how stout they looked! Might just have to pick up a set when there out
what's up Brant, make special edition colors at some point. but for now instruction, possibly a Allen tool, and a sticker, cross channel marketing and have a discount for brake cables or brake accessories when you purchase those brakes 👍
Thank you thank you man, I have been building a true 83 redline(everything stamped japan) and brakes were last bc they'll drive you crazy. I have the bulldogs(nor sure of year)
I've been pretty happy with my Fly brakes but those look really nice.. i would say include the 2 different straddle cables, was never an issue for me but now that i have the Fit Nasty frame on the way, it features chainstay mounts with the cable going through the seat tube. so now im in need of the shorter one.
they look awesome ! my only suggestion would be to include two sets of bolts . So many times i have gotten brakes and the bolts will not work and i need longer or shorter ones..... just include both problem solved
Nice looking brake. I've been using a Shadow v2, and the top of the arms where the straddle cable goes in. The arms stick out past the seat stays, and scratches me or catches my shoe. Hopefully this brake of yours isn't like that.
I want to see a nice machined lever to match -- check out eclat's DUBLEX rotor top cable, they have mimicked your setup for dual cables and mass produced it.
Bearings are overkill, they did that on the revenge brakes, which creates flop over time, a simple self-lubricating brass bushing with the mentioned spring hanger would be the most responsive without tak welding the post onto the frame, just totally fucks off a gyro. so if there were two options narps and one hanger....there are still issues with the fly brakes even though they look sexy. hats off to the cad designer and thought put into the brakes, the release machining is just enough, id uses another end mill...just me...hope this helps... Im a machinist and welder for many past years...
Very nice looking, like a slightly overbuilt fly brake. A micro adjust Allen key through the side might be nice. A little tip- if you want your brakes to not squeak like a goose being strangled, glue the boss into the bearing with loctite or another metal threadless glue. Only the bearing. They squeal because the tolerances of a bearing and bushing are poor- seems to be worse with bolt on bosses, so there is lots of play, glueing the boss to the bearing reduces this. Brakes don't squeak and work much better. BTW, it's spelled vice, not vise....😂
vise - vīs - [noun] | A heavy clamp, usually mounted on a workbench and operated by a screw or lever, used in carpentry or metalworking to hold a piece in position. vice - vīs - [noun] | A moral depravity or corruption.
2 knarps not the typical straddle cable solution. Front brake adapter would open it up for all the flatland riders. Could include other stuff but kinda pointless imo. Same 3m double sided tape cable guides might be nice though. Only other thing would be a removable guide style London mod but kink has the mission one and shadow has the sano one. Brass lever barrel so cables with a ball end work easier and just better cable pull anyways. Hanger modded from factory to support a spoke mod easier. But then the knarps need to support it as well. Could include a set of plastic rim spacers for making brake set up easy and fast for people.
Alloy knarps. Finding them is hard these days and chromoly knarps are a dime a dozen so to speak. Weight weenie factor. Good alloy and they're more then strong enough.
Pads look great. Probably the perfect pad for my preferences as well as long as it's a soft enough compound without chunking. Just sand the edges all around till they get a slight dome shape to help account for a bit of the pad squish and make feathering really feel based but still locks up like perfectly flat pad contact.
I really hate the traditional hanger/straddle set up….. I always look for something in a one piece design like the Eclat or even the odyssey quick slick adjustable….. it would be great if they included a single piece straddle set up and ditched the other straddle cable….. I really love the hard lines and machining they did on this brake set up though…. I’ll definitely be giving them a try when they come out
I don't think that will happen just because of how many of those already exist and will work with these brakes but maybe in the future. I think you're gonna like these when the production set comes out
Little thing & I'm not 100% if you'd be able to use the design without some patent issues? The Fly Manual Brake, the Spring Caps tighten/adjust with 2 Allen Keys, no wrenches or spanners needed! Also, what did I say!? Brake Lever, people will ask, people will want, people will buy!
Maybe next time you could attach the bike to the stand, and spin the whole thing so that the bike in in a vertical position or even turn the bike upside down to work on seatstay brakes. I used to do that a lot on my repair stand, it's awesome. Today my frame has chainstay brakes, so it's not really necessary to spin the whole thing around 🤣 Oh, and please tell me these brakes will come with clear pads stock!! It would be absolutely awesome! I'm tired of buying the latest 'cool' brakes that always come with ordinary black pads that don't work even if the rims were made of stupid clean glass! 👍
@@gorudonu sounds like you have as much bike control as someone with cerebral palsy . it wouldn't be hard to make a guard either. But sure, let's keep the near century old crap instead of innovating a solution to use the superior option; that's great for the sport.
Go make it then. Alienation isn’t going to make a brake that works on less than 1% of the frames out there vs a brake that works on 100% of freestyle bmx frames with mounts.
*CroMo knarps* for sure - less likely to strip the threads!
i think carbon would be the best bet as long as its fluted >meaning cold tube press fitting ...if that makes sense.endless options...
what boud getting rid of threads ?Use magnets....

Agreed. I have a pair on my old S&M Sabbath. The stopping power is ridiculous.
Extra parts are always better! That slightly longer cable could be a Godsend for someone.
That is so important. It will be a good thing if there is another brake, both front and back compliant. Looks tough also. Totally positive! PG...

You should make a signature brake lever too
Awesome video man! Keep it up!
I've been needing brakes for a while now so this is right where I need to be.... 😁
Both lower cables chromoly knarps please.and female brake pads

Yes yes and more yes can't wait for these things to hit shelves

👍
I need these for front and back brakes ASAP
If that was done right you could change a tire without having to readjust your brakes.
Look great. Can’t wait.

.. Springhanger.. Fly Bikes style.
I love the idea of the bearings at the bolt points, are these going to be compatible for rear brakes with 2.4" tires??
I took my back brakes off for 2.3 Tires, well I looped out on a manual landing and busted my arm up.😊 I’m putting these on if they fit.
Are you going to have them create a left hand and a right hand lever 🤔
Found your brake video ..ty so much help..
How likely are the bearings to break? It'd be nice maybe to include an extra pair of bearings

I’d prefer the chromoly knarp. Definitely need one of these brakes once they’re available.

Maybe u can try these on the fit bike u are changing parts on

Make them so there's the option to use a spring hanger set up.
ETA of the brakes? :)
Pretty cool.

looking at your cable clamps makes my eye twitch.

We all shall Do a straddle delete! What the point of them? They reduce leverage
Can you explain what you mean a little more? Im slow sometimes and want to understand.

I think all the hardware should be steel and leave both cables

Cro-mo
pass. Why do we still have these obsolete brakes that ruin the powder coat of the rims when the entire cycling world has gone to disk brakes?
Grinding with disc brakes must be fun, changing discs every session ;)
Disc brakes are powerful but too exposed and vulnerable for freestyle.

Disc brakes make zero sense on freestyle bikes
Fly brakes for the win!!!
