I’m the sam way about USA made knives. The vast majority of my collection is made in USA, but I have a few Taiwan Cold Steels, some Italian made Steel Wills and Lion Steel and an Argentine Boker. I just don’t want any of my knives to say made in China. It’s really difficult if not impossible to avoid Chinese goods in everything else, but I can in my knife hobby.

Have all three and they're all solid knives. .The 0562 in g10 and elmax, the grey g10 grip with blue liners and standoffs and 20cv, and the pm2 in digi camo, black s30v blade. But I still prefer the manix 2. I have three versions, my favorite being the carbon fiber with cruwear satin blade. Just my subjective opinion, but the size of the manix 2, the way it fits in my hand is like it was made for me. The ball bearing lock is drop shut smooth. Threw a deep carry clip on it. Also prefer the Shaman. Love those contoured g10 scales and nice thick blade stock with more robust tip than the pm2 or manix 2.

My 0562 (or 9/16" as my millwright brain reads it) is my coolest knife but it's noticeably heavier in pocket and I prefer tip up for speed of deployment. My PM2 is super lightweight and tip up and way more fun to fiddle with. I love them both. I need to get a griptillian.

I've had the Spyderco and that was about 8 years ago when I was still recovering from strokes and I didn't like the different kind of lock, paramilitary 2 I haven't had that bench made but I have a couple of other Benchmades and all the big fan of them, and I have that very Zero Tolerance hinder and I love it it is in my pocket almost every day since I've got it I usually carry two knives one I can work with and then one like my Spyderco P'kal. Sometimes I'll carry my Hinder or one of my less expensive knives if I am going to do a lot of box cutting or something. Damn I love knives! About four and made knives I used to never buy Chinese made I just wouldn't do it but since they started making these Civivi it's really rare though I will I will in a couple of other brands but especially that yes you bet I buy them they're too damn well made and too nice comparable to the Hinder to not buy them for $175 or under. Yes I do! I'm not a rich man! And as far as Taiwanese knives I've always loved them. To me the only difference between Taiwanese and American made is the price that's the only difference damn good workmanship in Taiwan! And they are our allies!

Good point about the Spyderco compression lock. For all its strengths and positive attributes it's one glaring fault is its ergonomics in operation.
It forces you to take purchase of the knife in a rather sketchy position during unlocking. I've dropped my yojimbo-2 due to this issue, w&hich thudded into the side of my foot and augered into the hardwood floor with a "thud", pinning me there until I uuuhhh, un-pinned myself.
    No, it wasn't fun.

I know this is an old video, but if you see this, I was wondering about a couple things.
1: Where did you get the hardware for the ZT, and is that pivot free spinning or fixed? I just ordered the 0562TI for $235 out the door on a first responder discount so it'll be a user. I had already bought an XM-18 Slippy Spanto working finish, but it was just too thin for me and had a bit of a centering problem so I sent it back today.
2: Do you know where I can find a good selection of 3.5" standard thickness and Fatty Gen 6 XM-18s other than DLT Trading? I want a Fatty Spanto or Wharncliffe like the one you reviewed, but just want to see some other options, if a Fatty Spanto even exists... It wouldn't be a user anyway so I'm not worried about blade geometry or thickness behind the edge. I have already sold four of my 10 knives to be able to get a Hinderer without cutting into my savings so I want to make sure I get one I really want.
Thanks, and I gotta say, I love the channel!

@@cadencramer2747, thanks! I just got two 0562CF blades one new and the other only carried for a few weeks.
The pivot screw is a weakness of the knife. Also, the carbon fiber is slippery so, I have tentatively added a small square of grip tape.
I will soon order some custom hand-formed Micarta scales for both from SUINGAP in the UK for $68 each with a two week lead time.

  • @newbiemike
    @newbiemike 3 года назад

I think what was missed that should have been mentioned is that an EDC should be very reliable and ready for almost anything. Reliability usually goes hand-in-hand with simplicity and I think that's where the PM2 excels. The compression lock is a very simple in design and probably the most reliable of the three (nothing to break, nothing to get gummed up). The G10 scales are visually simple (being flat) but are very useful because they grip like Velcro. The blade is also the most impressive to me. While it's not the biggest with the longest cutting edge, it just excels at what it's designed for. It's just about a perfect shape. You could almost do surgery with it. That's why the PM2 is my favorite.
I have a DLC with black G10 PM2 and love it. I also have a drop-point 20CV Griptilian with grey/blue G10 scales and a Griptilian from their custom shop (DLC sheep's foot S90V with carbon fiber scales). I had a regular S30V Griptilian with the FRN scales but returned it for the 20CV/G10 version because it felt so cheap. The Griptilian's scales feel good in the hand but the entire PM2 just feel right. It's lighter and I like the minimalistic design. Oh, I also have a VG-10 Spyderco Police with custom-engraved overlays on the scales that's just too big and heavy to carry around. It's something that I asked my dad to make so I can hand it down to my son someday.

Hi there Mr Complex🙄. Pop quiz from an idiot- Now that after market titanium scales are coming out for the ZT 0562, if you modified a g10 0562 with the ti, would there be any difference between that modified knife and the ZT sold titanium version- structurally I mean? I have never done any mods yet, and tbh I guess I'm a little intimidated by the idea. I suppose it is just a case of practise. Maybe you could go through how to modify knives for idiots, and maybe mods that aren't usually seen. I love my Yojimbo 2 as is, but it would be interesting to watch one of those being overhauled. Still loving your content- keep rolling 'em out;)

So - I too am a big fan of USA made knives & tools & here's how I look at it these days-- I have owned many Reate, We, Kizer & they are fantastic knives, very well made for the most part. Even Kevin John builds one of the best production knives that can be bought- no question. The point is: I was shocked at the quality. Here's the deal- I just dont feel as good about carrying those knives for whatever reason. Im in the process of gathering up a bunch to sell, & 95% are high end Chinese (great knivrs, but dont see pocket time) I think Im just over it. If you start getting into overseas knives, this may happen to you down the road as well. In the end-- for me -- it was a big waste of cash. & thats another thing, they really dont hold their value as well as a domestic built knife. That being said, there are some great deals to be had on the 2ndary market. BTW-- Reate blows every other Chinese knife outta the water by a long way. They build a fantastic product. Really.

ZT is sooo heavy, literally weighs my pants pocket down. Also the tip down sucks as well. I’m about to pull the trigger on a PM2 next for the lightweight. PM2 is probably the best carry option. ZT is a work knife, not a carry.

We all are guilty as knife people have used or done things wit our knives that we should not be doin at all. And knowing that a knife that's over $200 should not lock fail. I have a cheap ass Gerber that will not have lock failure and it also a frame lock like Z.T. So why would any Z.T have lock failure? Please explain it to me cause that I do not understand????

@@metal_complex yeah, why not? I see what you did there, haha. But for a more "Hinder-er-er-ree" aesthetic, I'd go for the Reate New Torrent 👍😋

Glad to hear. I love these 3 because there are so many GOOD reasons to choose any of them. The 0562 is an incredible knife!

Titanium frame locks are all show, no go... the PM2 tip is fatally thin... and the grip (frn) requires immediate modification thus voiding the warranty and forfeiting the "Butterfly tax"... Para3 for the win!

Own all three, and the best by far is the 0562. Benchmade over all is terrible, they've got soft steel, horrible customer service compared to the others and shitty hardware. while Spyderco is a little better is still suffers from being just as week as the grip. ZT is built to take a beating and last forever, backed by a better warranty. I've broke a few Spydies and Benchmade but never a ZT

Maybe I misunderstood. I thought you were saying the 0562 was on washers. I know the 0550 is washers but the 0562 is definitely on bearings.

I own 4 benchmade knives and the omega springs have broke on all 4. Inside 1 year of owning. Maybe I'm the exception, but I doubt it.

do you typically open the axis lock from one side or both? i have a theory that one finger unlocking causes the spring to wear against the frame. no evidence here, just speculation.
never had a broken spring here

@@akhoundog907 i use both sides together i cant get it to drop shut with one finger its like it sticks, but I do fidget with my knives alot so I pretty much blame that but i have a bugout and a 940 and a super freek and habe broke them all the 940 twice! The first time semt it to BM but the 2nd i got replacement springs from ebay. The super freek is down as we speak.
