- Join us as we continue sailing across the North Atlantic Ocean from Europe to the tropical Caribbean in our Bluewater capable Hunter 42 Passage sailboat. We're short-handed with a crew of 2 people onboard on days 16 and 17 of our offshore voyage. We encounter big waves, big swell and encounter mid-ocean traffic requiring evasive maneuvering to avoid a boat crash out at sea.

Remember that in 1895, there were only two cars in the entire state of Ohio. And, they managed to hit each other! Congratulations on avoiding being part 2 of that story!
Hilarious
you can save a lot of wear and power on your autopilot if you change the sea state to a higher setting...most sailboats will wander in waves but will keep the same course
Awesome! Look forward to your arrival.
Surely not the same guys trailing you ?
Different one!
By the way, what "sea state" are you talking about? It is flat calm. If it were worse, you would have filmed it. Harden up. You are going across the Atlantic. Just silly.
It's great seeing how you both give such care and attention to your floating home. Good episode!
And you have a food delivery service .
this is what you call Clickbait.
That’s shallow frying brus not deep frying 😅
Bahaha well we’re not trying to deplete all our oil for how much we love it 😅
Love watching my fellow Canadians crushing it! Safe travels from Nova Scotia! :)
🇨🇦 🙌🏻
RIP flying fish
Passagemaking with a little excitement thrown in! I wonder why AIS is not lighting each other up and it seems no avoidance taken by the other vessel. Strange! You guys are getting good at that fishing! With Stephs wizardry in the galley, tthe eating is good! Sail on!
Appreciate your explanations of the sail alignment boat and sailing terms
It’s funny I know I guy that looks just like you in NYC and his gf looks just like yours and are both just as annoying……
The incidence of small sailing ships following similar passage paths will increase due to improvements in prediction by navigation software.
Have you guys ever tried grilling your mahi? There was a place in LA called seafood broiler the served mahi and it was grilled. It was so good with garlic sauce or something. They were really expensive in the 1980s so when I see you sailors catching all this mahi my mouth waters. I like tuna too but mahi is my top favorite and halibut (however it's spelled), it my second favorite but I don't see any sailing channels getting those. Maybe halibut is only in the pacific. Enjoy
Grilled fish is soo good. Prefer it this way but unfortunately our bbq isn’t working 🙁
@@SailingJibsea oh that's a bummer. I haven't had a grill in 12 years. Love grill in but I'm in the mountains of Honduras and it always seem that when I find them, I'm out outa money. Lol
Great vids btw !
Just a question about “ killing “ the fish ? Is it not quicker to pour high concentration alcohol down its gills ? Quick and painless ??
Then let it bleed out ??
Just a thought
What a waste of alcohol 😮
I know they are Oakleys, but what model glasses are on Travis….Do you like and good polarized lenses…How do you keep cold cuts good for 14 days? Lol
I really enjoy following you two!
I would be so scared that I would run into a bad actor way out there in the middle of nowhere
Nice video
So the close encounter is on you since you weren't broadcasting. Relax, you're not airplanes.
Relax, there’s no fault. Staying vigilant is everyone’s responsibility and not every vessel on the water has AIS to broadcast/receive
very nice to see you here again!
Sunscreen duty 🙂
Had General Tsao chicken last night, thanks
Delicious!
That’s for the update! Stay safe!
Fyi...Boatspeed around 2 knots....take a “small” line...Make a slipknot....put it over fishingline....let it slip over head from fish....pull firmly tight...fair winds , be safe
Landed in the kitchen that fish just wanted to be cooked haha😅😅
😅
Not a hate question but does travis have to were glasses all the time 😊
We both have sensitive eyes to sunlight after having lazik
Don't worry about the encounter. Enjoy the moment. You guys are living the dream.
Kingfish is good as well, but it's much better if you soak it in milk for a while...:)
People say flying fish taste good
So we’ve heard! I don’t think we can bring ourselves to trying it though 😅
he wants a Albacore not another Mahi, lol they are suppose to be really good eating fish and cost lots at the market, but yeah tuna would be nice for a change. Also weird you coming into so close contact with other boats better keep your clothes on lol, they might want to come by for lunch.
Ha ha. Last year we met another boat close enough the spreaders and mast tips lightly touched while passing. A slight adjustment on mainsheet to stand the boat a little more vertical and nothing snagged. We quickly traded a passenger and food before the boats finished passing.
That is a crazy encounter. It is true that this world is small.
Doing great cruising and catching your food while under sail.
Good to see you guys living the dream
Hi from Fyn Alee, looks like you’re getting a great sail across the Atlantic, it’s better to be slow versus 30 ft sea’s and 50 knot winds. The food looks amazing!
Agreed!!
Amazing you even managed gyoza!
The flying fish missed the skillet by a mere few inches...Hilarious
Love you guys!
Thanks for the video productions you keep pumping out for your audience.
Happy sailing,
God Bless..
LOL! Imagine it landed on a skillet 😅😅
Glad you’re enjoying them. It encourages us to keep sharing
Great video guys. Cheers
That was a pretty good episode....guys. You're doing it (did it) and best wishes. NIcely edited... good storytelling, standups on camera really smooth, nariation, audio. music... NIce job.
Thanks a ton!
Skip jack is good eating if bleed properly.
Or use for bait when under anchor or smoke.
We don’t mind searing it like tataki style!
Just missed you guys. Was in the BVI/USVI on a charter boat last week
Ah bummer!! Would have loved to have met up but hope you had a fabulous time!!
Where are you coming from and going to! Just started watching.
From Europe to the Caribbean
Dude, if you want more flavour from your wraps you can dry fry them for a bit each side in a hot pan till they slighty begin to brown, then build your lunch on that. It not only improves the doughy texture of the bread but it also adds a little maillard reaction, so you end up with toasty wraps that are slightly crispy.
Enjoy your trip.. I'm totally jealous lol
Mahi Mahi is YUMMY YUMMY 🙌🏻
Interested to know what the other boat was , what flag etc, cheers guys.
Sun odyssey 43, French flagged but those onboard were something else, can’t recall
crazy stuff!
Thank you
Very nice fish.
Always love a good Mahi!
When we crosses the Gulf of Mexico, a flying fish came through my hatch and landed in my bed next to me 😂
How long before the smell woke you? 😂
@@SailingJibsea I heard it hit the deck above and thought the guy on watch dropped a handheld radio or something through the hatch....it was dark, so I felt around with my hand until I grabbed the "object"....suddenly the fish started wiggling and it totally freaked me out because I had no idea what I had just grabbed; I turned on the light and realized it was just a fish 🤣
I can only assume if it because you two do not have enough experience to do it right, but no jack-lines and not securing those pelican clips on your lifeline gates while crossing an ocean is one of the dumbest thing I have seen people do on a sailboat.
We can only assume we don’t have the same comfort and risk level tolerances. Also when going downwind, the lifeline has to be open to accommodate the sheet if we want to avoid chafing.
Not their first rodeo. Imagine all the blokes on a carrier deck and their Jack lines……
stick to dinghy sailing in the bay Paulie
