Storage area, gloves, few drink cans, phone, just having the space is better than none. Brilliant work on this fit up, you do what you feel is right for you.
I like the opening too. I would make it into an open ‘map’ compartment - ideal for phones, papers etc. could put usb charge point in etc. I wouldn’t put a door on it. Kind of looks like it should be there.
Dave, initially I think ordering and fitting the associated wood grain panel across the front of the dashboard to match the clocks face would look very smart.
Great job coming along well. Yes I'd keep the hole for something and I'd put that black fuzzy stuff to cover the dash would look nice and I'd refurb the clocks somehow 👍
Did the multi-clock and dash top swap on my brothers car with him many years ago, as part of a 1.1litre to 1.6litre pinto conversion, I just don't remember cutting the dash to take them but we must have done🤔. Another great video
And after fitting the wood grain panel, if you decide to fit a glove box you could still use the wood grain panel to cut out and use as a matching facia for the glove box door- very smart..
Lots of different opinions but it's your car and you will have to decide what to do. Whatever you choose I'm sure that you'll make it work and look good too. Regards.
Awesome video Dave, coming along nicely, two things I'll vote for are as follows. 1, Make the LHD hole a Glove box, and if you are going for a faux wood trim look use that. Or hide a radio in it (not that I would but hey it's an idea) 2, Get some vinyl wrap and try wrapping the dash for an even more vinyl look (and work 😂😂). Other than that love the progress, and thanks for sharing. Cheers Matthew.
Hi Dave ,what a fiddle, but turned out great in the end, love seeing how you get around problems, and you make it look so easy, looking forward to seeing your next video, take care.
I think I said before that’s a groovy glove box for and escort lol , I think personally I’d cover it up it’s so small not worth the effort but that’s just for me of course , I think the wood trim across there would look nice to but I’m old school I love all that stuff carbon fibre is definitely not for me 😜 nice job Dave looks amazing 👍
if you won't to keep it looking original, i would cover it over and put the fake wood back, if you can get it. great job so far, i like the way you work things out.
Nice, neat work you used the tools you have a wad punch would be handy you could even make one yourself with a scrap bit of pipe i must say you are good with the Dremel cutting with a steady hand i love your videos ripping project patience my friend
That little a lot looks like an ideal map pocket, for navigation rallies and the like. When not being used for that, it’s a nice size for a tablet, a couple of phones, or even a few Mars/KitKat bars. Shame to waste it, when it’s already there and looks original and anything you do with it will look like a repair. Just my opinion.
Another good informative video Dave. I also have used one of those fibreglass dash tops and a fibreglass blank dash which I have fitted modern dials into making the six dial look. I like your solution for the wooden blocks I also have the issue with them not being in the correct position and I like your solution 👍
It seems to me that space on the LHS is too small to be useful. I would blank it off, then cover with vinyl or wood effect. Get or make a decent centre console with cup holders, etc. Even lockable? Love your videos. There is a (nothing is too hard to do attitude! ). Most Inspiring Thanks.
Hi Dave,if I had the money? I would definitely ask if I could commision you to build me from scratch an escort mk1 just like yours, because your brilliant and a perfectionist, you did a PERFECT!! Job on that dash weldone🙏🙏🙏🍺🍺🇬🇧🇬🇧
What about leather trim on the dash, and wood along the front… you could also replace the fake wood on the dash with a bit of retro upgrade wood laminate…? Just a thought.

morning Dave thanks for the reply about the red light ,, ive checked though a few wiring diagrams and it seems to be for the hazard light ?? even though the switch illuminates itself.. now to find out why this little red light is not when the hazards are on
Really like the idea of a custom cubby hole tbh Dave. Just a little bit of something different from every other mk1.
Love the work you do no bull sh**t Dave
Great work on the dashboard mate 👏🏻👏🏻 glove box all the way 😃
Thanks 👍
Great vid as usual Dave. Not sure what I’d use it for but I like the idea of keeping the slot part in the dash.
You and me both!
Make the hole on the left a glove box. The car is coming on a treat.

Nice job Dave turn the hole into a slide out coffee/ drinks holder 👌
Great idea
Dave there’s only one thing that gap needs my friend, a polished plaque-
“1 of 1 rebuild by
Dave’s Garage”
Embossed in it👌🏻
Fab 🤣
Fantastic video as always Dave. Make the LHD hole
Into a glovebox/hide hole/radio holder. How’s about flocking the dash top?
Lovely job dave
Looking quality now be sorted when it's finished 👌
Turned out well in the end Dave. Has to be your choice ultimately with the hole, if in doubt, originality is the way to go for me.
Thanks for another great video Dave
Very nice result. I'd do the glove box.
Another brilliant video, Dave, turn the old dash section into a handy compartment 👍
wood grin, holes are repositories for crap you never use watching from nz Dave loving it
Dave, initially I think ordering and fitting the associated wood grain panel across the front of the dashboard to match the clocks face would look very smart.
Nice work Dave. the hole left side glove box or hide the fuse box 👍
A fiddley job ,looks great well done .Wooden trim would look more original
Great job coming along well. Yes I'd keep the hole for something and I'd put that black fuzzy stuff to cover the dash would look nice and I'd refurb the clocks somehow 👍

I did the same and also can't recall cutting the dash.
Nice work Dave, use the hole as a glove box to store and charge your phone and keep your traveling sweets!👍😎
good job dave

Walnut veneer for the dash and binnacle.

I would close it off and use a carbon fibre vinyl on the strip, great job! Was easier back in the 80s when scrapyards were full of old rwd Escorts!
Indeed it was

Yes would look good and different as a glove box in my opinion
brillant video good work with the dash top, the mk1 rally cars had a double dash top

Great video Dave ever thought of fitting a mk2 dash binnacle I seen one on RUclips sometime ago and it looked great
Haven't considered that, I think I prefer the MK1 dash tbh

hi Dave been watching build your mk1 . can you answer a question what is the little red light next to the cigarette lighter passage side please
I'm not sure, nothing on this dash like that. In the pop I built the little red light was the immobiliser indicator??
maybe a glovebox. where did you get your dash top from please?
Ebay mate
Can never too many cubby holes in a car, for all those nicks & knacks that end up in the car
Dave, another question if I may....I asked you a few weeks ago what model welder you use. I should have asked at that time, Can it be used on a standard 13amp socket?
Hi Anthony, it's an R-tec 180 mig, yep, runs off normal 13amp 3pin plug no problem. Hope this helps.
@@DavesGarageuk Excellent, thanks... 😊
Are you going to flock the dash before final fit Dave?
Not sure, I don't know how well the flocking keeps
