Sorry to hear you're not well Dave, I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery. I've been out of action for the last 2 weeks with some sort of virus that has attacked my lower abdomen, I suspect prostatitis. It has knocked me for more than six I can tell you. I turned 72 on the 29th, so I guess age is against me. I wouldn't fear the epoxy, as far as I can tell it is the least hazardous of all the 2 pack coatings, I don't think there are any isocyanates in the hardener which are the real nasties. It's a strange thing about exposure to chemicals. There are people who can munch through bags of peanuts quite happily, and others who if they ingest 1 grain of peanut end up dead. True story: before I started doing any painting at home I researched it to death. I made the mistake of talking to an old friend who I thought knew a lot more than me, and he came out with the standard line which is intended to piss you off before you start, "don't even think about it unless you've got a full booth and air fed mask. I've got a mate who painted one panel on his car, he used a proper respirator, ended up in intensive care, almost died". I said, wow that's bad, have you a number for him, it would be good to get some details? "Ah, no, I lost touch with him years ago." Hmm. I used to have an e-mail reply from the guy responsible for designing the Gerson respirators in America. It unfortunately got deleted when Virgin had some sort of massive server glitch a while back. He said that they were rigorously field tested for safety to isocyanates and were perfectly good for 36 hours continuous exposure, after which the charcoal filters, or complete mask, had to be replaced. I have used the Gerson masks for at least 8 years now and have had no ill effects.

Wishing you the best of luck Dave. I had an adverse reaction to the last Covid booster that knocked me onto my backside for 6 months so I sympathise. At least you got a diagnosis and obviously the NHS is better in Wales than here in the South East of the U.K. BTW after years of using epoxy resin without any sort of breathing mask I developed an allergic reaction to it so now have to use alternatives. Nast stuff.
