My son's birthday is in December and we usually go for Grand Illumination. You have to book dinner super early for that time, if you want eat in a tavern. It's one of our favorite things to do.

Thank you for this! We did almost all the same things you did, including the pizza, except we did not have time for the museum. We must come back. We also ran out of time to stop in Richmond. We had wanted to try Ipanema on Grace St.
Right! We barely had time for the museum!! Also another great restaurant in Richmond is 821 Cafe. Such a big menu & great selections 😍

Yes if you don’t want to pay for Williamsburg, you can still experience the vibes - you just can’t go inside anywhere.

If you stay at a property owned by Colonial Williamsburg, you usually get length of stay passes for the Historic Area which would save some money. I believe you can get up to 2 passes per room.
Yes, we stayed at the Williamsburg Lodge and got 2 free passes that lasted for a few days, I think

Also touring the Plantations along the James..many fond memories.
