    Colonial Williamsburg is one of my favorite places! I feel so at home there. Back in July 2021 I stayed in one of the first floor rooms in the Market Square Tavern and loved looking out the window to the people walking down the street. Plus, walking around the area after hours at night was a real treat.

    I am so glad you got to do that! What a way to spend a special time together. I have a question....did the bed curtains close all around the bed? I have always wanted to sleep in a bed with bed curtains! I was invited to do a survey and one of the questions was "if you had a chance to choose one place from the following list, which would it be?" There were several choices of lovely and exotic places but one was Colonial Williamsburg and I chose that one because of what I have seen on here and on your blog. Love you guys!

    • @WalkwithHistory
      @WalkwithHistory  2 года назад +2

      Awe. We love you too. No the curtains were just decorative. They were not long enough and the curtain rod was not long enough to pull the curtain around you in the bed. But I am sure at the time they did.

    This video is great. My family booked the Lewis House for a vacation this summer. But, I have never been able to see the inside as Williamsburg's website doesn't show it. My one question is can the back door off the kitchen at least be opened from the inside?

    • @WalkwithHistory
      @WalkwithHistory  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for watching. Yes the back door can definitely be opened from the inside. And if you bring some kind of folding chair, you could sit outside on the patio in your private garden and enjoy the weather if it is nice. :) Enjoy!!!! It was a great place to stay.

    Staying at one of those houses is actually a really good deal. My husband and I haven't stayed there before but we did have dinner in a place that looked very colonial. I don't think they had modern lights. It was great. / I see it was cold there when you went. Is it best to go when its NOT summer? Maybe you went so it wouldn't be too crowded for your video? Did you know Ozzy Osbourne visited there a couple of years ago?

    • @WalkwithHistory

      They only allow you to build fires in the winter so we wanted the fire in the fireplace too. But yes it was less crowded but less crowded means less things are open too so it is not always great. I did not know Ozzy came here. I know John Wayne was there though. ♥️

    Nice house but it looks like a normal regular house. What is colonial about it? I am not sure.

    • @WalkwithHistory
      @WalkwithHistory  9 месяцев назад

      It was Martha Washington’s Grandfathers house. So the age of the house is what makes it colonial. It has been updated. You are staying in the “footprint” with the same basic layout ie bathrooms have been added.

      @@shannonobrien9922 l agree if it is nice wood such as oak or mahogany, but in colonial times woodwork was usually pine or poplar because it was less expensive and easier to carve and mold plus people liked color. Research has shown colonial paint colors were often brighter than previously thought. Many times pine doors were painted to simulate expensive woods like mahogany.

      @Bryan Spindle yeah- I don't care about pine but Mahogany, oak, maple........THISE should NOT be painted! When my X husband and I bought our 2nd home I restored all the woodwork.....just the 9 foot picture window took me a week of sanding as prior to our purchase the home had been a rental and someone had allowed their child 2 carve into the wood- looked SO good when I was finally finished
