Blocked Ear Cleaning Marathon | Auburn Medical Group

  • This blocked ear cleaning marathon took a total of 9 fills of our Waterpik to completely remove the cerumen from each clogged ear. It took 5 fills of 250 ml of warm water hydrogen peroxide for the earwax removal of the right ear, and it took 4 fills of the ear wax removal in the left ear. We show how to clean ears using a gentle ear irrigation technique with the Bionix attachments for a standard Waterpik. The small flake of ear wax remaining in the ear canal was not removed because the instrumentation need to break it free of the canal wall would likely injure the lining of the ear canal without providing any health benefit to the patient.

    You have the nicest patients! My hubby and I are in our early 50's. Last couple of years, hubby started getting what I call "old man ear hairs". I pluck those babies...and my dear hubby good naturedly abides it. It's akin to the 1 "old lady chin hair" I get. Hubby reached up to pull it off 1 day, thinking it was just a loose hair. When it didn't budge, he laughed..I feigned horror, then went and got the tweezers after it too. #GettingOldAintForSissies

      Jacee K You are lucky to get just one long chin hair. I am in my thirdies and have been getting quite a few random chin hairs since my twenties... I don't know if its from being part Portuguese and Italian ( among other things), or if it's hormones or maybe just bad luck but it sucks. I need to start a hair removal fund!

      +Trin Murray, I actually started noticing the hair in my thirties. Recently I've also been getting 1 coarse dark mustache whisker at the corner of my mouth. Of course that sucker gets plucked too! I'm sure genetics do figure into this deal. I've actually got a lot of hair on my face, but it's that downy vellus hair (short, very light, soft) that most of us have. And I have shaved my face a few times. I've seen where several women do...in addition to removing the hair, it's a good exfoliation technique. And even tho I'd heard it will, the hair doesn't grow back in dark and coarse, that's an old wives tale. I sure wish "old lady whiskers" and wrinkles were old wives tales too. Lol

      I don't use it, because I don't have it. I don't know about it being the safest. It could be. There is still an object being inserted in the canal which can rupture the TM.

  • @pamelaflirtyskunk7698
    @pamelaflirtyskunk7698 7 лет назад +6

    Hearing aids are notorious for blocking the ears up with wax, aren't they? Don't they prevent the wax from being able to drain freely? I know my grandparents never had issues with wax impactions until they started wearing hearing aids. Maybe the wax also gets thicker with age?

    • @auburnmedicalgroup
      @auburnmedicalgroup  7 лет назад +3

      Not thicker. The natural flow of the cerumen slows with age.

    • @pamelaflirtyskunk7698
      @pamelaflirtyskunk7698 7 лет назад +2

      Auburn Medical Group Oh ok. So the hearing aids have absolutely nothing to do with it then?

    • @auburnmedicalgroup
      @auburnmedicalgroup  7 лет назад +7

      The hearing aids make it worse by blocking that reduced flow.

      +kristality The loud noise you hear on the video is not heard inside the ear. The only sound in the ear is that of water squirting out towards the walls of the canal. It would not sound too much different from letting shower water enter your ear canal. It sounds loud on the video because of the compressor I use to turn up our voices.

      +Julia Moran yThe main concern with either home use or in office use is injury to the ear canal or eardrum. Less common complications can include loss of foreign bodies in the ear canal and missed treatment of infections. There are also some other diseases which can be confused with ear wax Accumulation which can be very serious if not caught by a doctor.

      LeNora M, I'm sorry this one was a little rough. We are still experimenting with different techniques and lens options. Part of the difficulty is the "live" nature of these procedures. Another contributing difficulty is the extremely close view I try to achieve of the action. This sets up a situation in which there is a very small depth of field. This is difficult for both manual and auto focus, as any macro videographer will tell you. Just the movement of the instruments is enough to take the subject out of the plane of focus. Know that we are doing our best to come up with the right tools and techniques to make this the best medical channel on RUclips.

    Be careful, a Dr put a small hole in my ear drum using that water technique.
