A full perfect restoration of this soviet era Russian vintage vice.
Please Like 👍and Subscribe😊 so we can grow the channel and bring you more of the videos you enjoy watching.
Unfortunately I have no information on this vice apart from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) existed from 1922 until 1991 so this vintage vice dates from some time within this period. If anyone has any more information please let me know. It was kindly bought and supplied to me by Ben from the Tool Addict channel.
This vintage vise had not been well looked after and it only seemed fitting that it was restored to beyond it's best. This full perfect vintage tool restoration is as sympathetic as possible given the age and rarity of this Russian vice but given the shocking state we first found it in quite drastic measures were needed to restore it.
A massive thank you again goes out to Ben at the Tool Addict channel for very kindly supplying this very rare antique vise for us to restore.
We hope this practical demonstration of how to repair and restore a vintage tool will help to teach you all the processes involved in a restoration project, help to learn new skills and give you the confidence to practice them yourself.
A big thank you goes out to Huw from Ynys Twca for the top tip👍😊

Just an awesome restoration.. Great job and video
Hi Mark, thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, keep up the great work on your channel😊👍
Хорошая работа. Да и только. Рабочие тиски, даже не сказать что были уставшие. Профилактическая смазка и косметическая окраска в революционный красный цвет.
Beautiful Work!
Hi Brian, Thank you very much👍😊
Великобритания работа 👍👍👍💯 вторая жизнь старших вещей . С меня лаик 👍🤘🙂
Привет, большое спасибо за отличный комментарий👍😊
Great job the red is spot on fantastic work thanks for sharing and remember stay safe and make. 🍺🍺👍👍😷
Hi Brian, thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm glad you liked the video, I tried to keep as close to the USSR theme as possible👍😊I hope you can keep safe too👍
Beautiful job 👍 😊
Hi Sparky, Happy New Year and thanks so much for the kind comment👍😊really glad to see another great video on your channel👍😊
@@restoreandmake Thank you very much and you too 🥃 👍 😊
Great Job, Comrade, the Party will be pleased!
Hi Nick, thanks for your great comment, I'm so glad the central party approves👍😊
That is an excellent restoration. It's definitely better than the original when it was manufactured. Well done.
Hi Mark, thank you so much for your kind comment👍😊
WOW you put a lot of work in that little vise but now it's a real beauty. Excellent!
Hi Thomas, thank you so much for your kind comment, the videos take ages to make but I'm really happy you enjoyed the results😊👍
That little vise sure up up a fight during disassembly.
Hi Michael, thanks for your great comment, you're right, it was a right pain to get it dis-assembled, but it was well worth it in the end😊👍
The vice looks great! This may be the first soviet tool restored on any of the channels I watch. Very cool!
Hi Time Flys in the Shop, thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, it certainly is quite a rare vice👍😊
Not taking anything away from @ Restore and Make, I have seen a number of old Soviet tools restored. Good solid tools. This one has turned out better than it came from the factory.
I also seem to remember it sitting on @ Tool Addict’s collection of vices. Is this another one you’ve done for Ben like the Vovo vices?
Can’t blame him asking you if it is, as your work is exceptional.
Ooohhh! Amazing! I remember my grandpa having something similar to this one... He still has it somewhere!
Hi Martin, Happy New Year😊thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, maybe you could ask Grandpa to let you restore his vice and post the video on your great channel, I really liked the robot video and the amount of effort you had to put into making it, keep up the great work👍😊
@@restoreandmake Wow! Thank you... that would be a great idea if he wasn't in Bulgaria where im from... I now live in America though..
(Edit) You did a great job restoring the vise to condition it was like 👍
Nice restoration. I like the fact you showed all of the steps
Hi David, thank you so much for your kind comment, I like to show as much of the process as possible so all of team Restore and Make can get a feel of what's involved in the restoration process👍😊
Very pretty looking tool and probably still useable too. Like the detailing you did.
Hi Paul, thank you so much for your great comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, there are plenty more in the pipeline😊👍
Hello. At the moment I am restoring exactly the same gripes. Thanks for the video. Respect. 👍
Привет Эдуард, спасибо за отличный комментарий, я очень рад, что вам понравилось видео, было бы здорово, если бы вы могли снять видео о своей реставрации и разместить его на своем сайте😊👍
Awesome restoration! Love how go into all the slightest details...amazing, as always 😁👍
Hi Heather, Happy New Year, thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, with regards the detail, I feel that if I'm doing a certain process then we should all have the opportunity to see it👍😊
That was a really great restoration!
Hi Jim, thank you for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, there are plenty more in the pipeline👍😊
Well done. This is a great restoration vid. I particularly like how you went with the tough screw and worked around it. It would be interesting to know the provenance of this vise: why "USSR" rather than CCCP. Was the manufacture marketing to English speakers? And how did sells of a Soviet vise go in the non-Soviet market? Interesting. Great work, Ty.
DDR
Looks great and a great job on restoring it
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Hi oneshot_me, thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video😊👍
@@restoreandmake You're welcome
Kruchev never had one this nice at his dachua
Hi David, brilliant 😂😂👍😊
Man this was a lot of work - I was also thinking of doing similar project - kudos to you. I subscribed! Great Job!
Hi Danymite Restoration, thank you for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video😊👍keep up the great work on your channel👍😊
@@restoreandmake Thank you - I am working on my new project now - Tonka loader!
Lol, a Red vice...😆 Nice touch, the Russian translation in the description. And a beautiful result!
Hi Scian Géar, thank you so much for your kind comment and I'm really glad you liked the video, I tried to make it a sympathetic to history as possible👍😊
Par excellence .
Hi Shahid, thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, there are plenty more in the pipeline😊👍
Hi Dave! Great job on the Vise! You were smart not to go nuts on trying to remove the drive screw... Those hidden pins have screwed up a lot of restorations! (Ask me how I know) =D Awesome stuff!!!!!!
Your 50/50 👍
Don't be stingy with the fifty/fifty
Hi John, thank you so much for your kind comment and thank you for your great tip on the penetrating fluid, unfortunately even that couldn't free the screw section, having found the retaining pin I'm really glad I didn't try and swing off the square bar any more than I did, sometimes it's better to have fought and lost etc...😊👍
I was surprised to see that it was stamped USSR and not CCCP, as it would have been written in Cyrillic. Great job on the restoration.
That was my thought also, USSR not CCP?
Hi American Jeeper, that's a very fair point, all being well someone may have some more information about this vice in the fullness of time😊👍
Excelente!!!!!
Hi Federico, gracias, obrigado, thank you so much for your kind comment😊👍
Wow. I just inherited one of these (almost identical though it has some other stamps apart from USSR) from my father in law. Just as bad looking as yours was to begin with. Has a lot more charm to it than an ‘ordinary’ Record-vice imo.
thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video😊👍
It's a good thing you wrote "not" above the ice cream label.
Hi Time Flys in the Shop, thanks for your great comment, it's always important to label thing like that, the kids will eat anything that looks appealing😂😂😊😊
Where did you get that stubby socket driver? Nice job by the way. I've got a small hand-cranked bench press drill that's frozen solid and have been trying to take it apart for 6 months now. Can't use too much force because it's cast iron. Anybody got any suggestions?
Hi Costa, thank you so much for your kind comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, I got the little hand ratchet in North Wales at a shop called Stermat. With regards your vice, you could do worse than make up a batch of the penetrating fluid, (it's Scout Crafters invention) warm your solid parts up and give them a liberal coating😊👍
@@restoreandmake I'll give it a go when the weather improves.
I have never seen a handheld belt sander like that. Does it have a particular name?
Look for "power file"
Hi Time Flys in the Shop, Nick is absolutely right, if you search for power file, I'm sure you'll find examples, it's a really handy tool and very controllable 😊👍
First view first comment from India punjab
Hi Gagan sidhu gagana, thank you so much for your great comment and being the first to watch the video, thank you for your continued support😊👍
@@restoreandmake full support bro
It looks like Soviet parts will not work without prior party approval...LOL...Great job on a good looking vise.
Definitely wasn't stingy with the 50/50.
Hi Schmidty the Kid, thanks for your great comment, I wanted to try everything possible to free the parts, you can't say we didn't try😂😊👍keep up the great work on your channel, it's super to see the adventures you've had👍
Houston we have a problem!!!this vise broke down and the original owner wants the vise back in the ussr!!
Hi Patricia, thank you so much for your great comment, I'm really glad you liked the video😊👍
dude!!!! where can i get a hand wrench thing thats at 1:21
Hi Bill, thanks for your great comment, I believe I picked up the hand ratchet in a hardware store on the Island of Anglesey, off the North Wales coast of Great Britain, I'm not sure I've seen any others like it since👍😊
Aproveita e restaura a chave de fenda. 😁
Olá Emani, obrigado pelo seu comentário, a chave de fenda está na lista, continue com o ótimo trabalho em seu canal😊👍
How much did you paid for this vise?
Hi Albert, thanks for your question, a friend of mine paid about £60 for it, then gave it to me to restore👍😊
@@restoreandmake thank you very much for your answer! Waiting for more restorations 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@@restoreandmake By some strange coincidence I found one exactly, and I mean exactly, identical one to this one in a thriftstore today for 200 Norwegian kroner (about $20 US) and it looked too cool not buy :)
بس بدي افهم ليه لمعتها و بعدين بخيتها دهان اصولك قبرصية !!!!!!
👍😊
Good restoration, but after restoration Soviet vice transformed into American vice instead.😂😂
Go communism.
Hi Elvis, thank you for your great comment, given the robustness of the vice I think you've got a point👍😊
You do beautiful work and have an eye for detail to be envious of.
I was delighted to see you try my suggestion of the acetone and ATF combination for a penetrating oil but as disappointed as you to see that it couldn't break the handle collar loose. That thing must have really been on there! I did see it worked well for the screws holding the jaws on though.
I wish it was possible for us to have a rusty vintage tool swap. I send you something from America and you send something from Russia but the shipping on it would be enough to run a small city on for a day at least.
It's a pity.
Hi Bustednuckles, thank you so much for your great comment, I'm really glad you liked the video, you're right about the 50/50 mix, it works at treat but the screw section was maybe press fitted in the factory, because that sure wasn't coming out😩😊👍
