1924 era Egg Beater Style Breast Hand Drill - Classic Vintage Hand Tool Restoration
Vintage Egg Beater / Whisk style breast hand drill thought to be of German manufacture, made some time around 1924 although there is a US patent issued to Camile Contal on 27/05/1924 for a very similar, if not exactly the same drill, I wonder if this is a very early test piece as there is very little in the way of manufacturers identification on the drill, save for the letters "LS' cast into the main body. If anybody knows more about this drill please let us know in the comments below👍😊
A big thanks once again to Ben of the "Tool Addict" channel for supplying this great, rare tool, I've no idea how he manages it but he continues to find some belting vintage tools for me to restore👍😊

I would have been less aggressive than a wire wheel cleaning off the ways. They are precision machined, possibly even scraped, for a very precise fit.

since it is difficult for me to find surfactant, isn't it the same as pouring a little liquid to wash the dishes?? or shampoo???

Lovely job ! After disassembly and scraping off the worst of the crud, I have found the best way to degrease and remove paint, is to simmer it in a Caustic Soda bath for an hour or so before hitting it with a pressure washer. Then into the electrolysis tank. As opposed to wire brushes grinding discs, flap discs and the like, this method takes it back to clean bare metal without removing the metal itself, and you can then make an informed decision on how much you wish to clean up .... conservation vs. restoration. Some like 'em shiny some prefer to leave old casting flashes etc untouched for posterity. Either way I would never take a power tool to bearing surfaces and ways. All that would do is increase slop or backlash into the vice.

I found a Commercial Electroplating chemical company sells a product they call “SURFACE ACTIVATOR” to use same as you are with the HCI & H20 solution. I looked up what the main active chemical in the “Surface Activator” & it’s BATTERY ACID😳. But reading the Amazon reviews/comments they swear by the results???
