I wrote a paraphrased summary of this message on my black magnetic dry-erase board, with the exact quote about the reformed pirate being loved despite his whole story being shared. I found it oddly comforting. That message will resonate with me for the near future, and I will share this specific video with at least a couple people who struggle in the same ways that I do.
How do you know if people really love you? Tell them the worst things, the darkest most regrettable things, and wether this person or that leaves won't matter more than the people who stay anyway. Love is love, an no half-measure is worth hiding parts of yourself because of shame or regret.
