The beauty of torsen/helical is that you don't ever have to rebuild. Plus it locks up very quick unlike the clutch type it can be on or off. Love my quaife torsen diff in front and rear. Never have to rebuild ever again.
This was helpful, I did the re-stack on the rear diff plates last summer and did what you guys trying to visualize how gears were turning in relation to the axles, driveshaft, etc. Will have to re-watch this video again later as there were some parts that went right over my head
Great video! This is a lot like the Haldex system in the VW/Audi cars. It is not a true ACD in the sense that you could transfer 100% to the front or the rear, for that to happen you would need two clutch packs, one for the front and one for the rear. Instead what we have is the front is always mechanically connected and the ACD clutch allows up 50% of the power to go to the rear. What they call a FWD biased AWD system, whereas a RWD biased AWD would have the rear mechanically connected and a clutch that allows up to 50% to route to the front (the latter is the prefered setup if you can get it). The Haldex is the same only the clutch pack is built into the rear diff rather than the transfer case. The new Golf R has an AYC system that seems to work well, but it does make me think that ACD like this seems redundant if you have AYC. I mean if both rear clutches are disengaged, then all the power goes to the front, and if they are fully engaged then up to 50% goes to the rear already, what is the point of also having a front biased ACD when the AYC can do the same thing, while also controlling which side gets more? What would make sense is if you had a full ACD with two clutches that could send up to 100% to either end. Then combine that with a rear AYC, then you could really optimize power delivery.
Nice video . Helped me understand alot more about the transfer case and to also understand the weaknesses . I wanted to see you guys disassemble the ACD front differential for an inside view . But the actual differential housing and ring gear look similar to the non acd one .
I want to clarify, the front differential is inside the transmission and the center differential is in the transfer case hence ACD (Active CENTER Differential).
hi my friend, i need your help, do you know the specifications of the tapered roller bearings of the central differential for the evo 8?... i need to make a modifications, it is only a presentation but i need those specifications
Question, I’m in the middle of installing an oil seal on the transfer case I believe for the LH axle. My question is, should I put transfer case oil on the Outer diameter of the seal? Can I put a little bit of RTV if there are some slight scratches on the mating surface of the T case?
Question: So... Do we not have a diff in the gearbox as well? Which would be considered the front diff? Then the Diff in the T-case would be called the Center Diff? Then Rear Diff is the Rear Diff 😅
Very good question, and we discussed exactly this in the video. (17:25) The center differential gears are in the transmission. The front differential is in the T-case. The viscus(or ACD clutches) that control the amount of resistances on the Center diff is also in the T-case... its a bit confusing, but that's how i understand it.
Center Differential is in the Transmission. The Active Center Differential clutch packs are in the Transfercase like shown in the video. Follow this link to see figures and paths of how it transfers power to the Front Differential located in the Transfercase. The link shows how the Evo X drivetrain works but its essentially the same system if you ignore AYC. youwheel.com/home/2017/04/15/analysis-awd-system-of-the-mitsubishi-lancer-evolution-x/
My acd tcase on my evo x is leaking out of the vent tube. My acd pump maybe going bad. I’m trying to figure out why the fluid is coming out of the vent tube but I’m stuck. Anybody have any ideas?
Guy mentioned he rather have a ACD diff, reason many people switch to Non-ACD is due to expensive pump failure and electronic associated with the systems. I'd like to develop a mechanical or relay based solenoid system to eliminate the ACD pump and have the system apply pressure on demand. Does anyone know the amount of pressure that each of the ride modes apply via the stock ACD?
I just swappaed a 4g93 allwheel dr8ve to my lancer. Problem is i haven't installed the rear drivelines and etc. Can i run my car without a driveline for the rear diffs? Or can i lock it out? If so, how? Thanks. Hope you can help.
Are there Torsen differentials for Evo? I want to build a vw golf 4 4motion with lancer evolution parts. Complete front axle rear axle and gearbox etc. I don't know if I want the Evo X system or for more fun Evo 3 or 4 system. It would be nice if there are pneumatic locked differentials or torsen differentials.
Does anyone by any chance know if I can fit an evo 6 T-case onto an evo 8mr? Or maybe if I can fit the internals of an evo 6 T-case into the evo 8 T-case? (Ring an pinion to be precise🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I currently have an acd t-case in my evo 8. however it was filled with redline shockproof fluid. ive been told its better to run diaqueen. can i simply drain all the fluid out the best i can and fill with diaqueen. or could i run into problems having redline residue still being inside? Thanks!
Yes, you can just drain it and swap in OEM Diaqueen. Assume you already saw it, but you can read more about the procedure here: www.jackstransmissions.com/blogs/pages/t-case-filling
The stock ACD can take about 550hp and 480 torque Which is honestly not that bad but anything after that it’s over I work with an Evo Tuner and that’s usually when the stock tcase ends up taking a shit
bro... the output ring gear in the transmission is nothing more than an output shaft .. which connects to that sleeve on the center dif... quit saying front dif on the trans... cause it's not a dif... it's just an output that goes to the dif in the transfer cause which then directs power when needed

Thanks Paul that was awesome. I now finally understand what's going on in ACD and Non-ACD transfers. Great work. Much appreciated.
The full name for the "viscous" is a viscous coupling unit or VCU for short.
Awesome vid
Bro, the center differential is in the transfer case.
Nice video . Helped me understand alot more about the transfer case and to also understand the weaknesses . I wanted to see you guys disassemble the ACD front differential for an inside view . But the actual differential housing and ring gear look similar to the non acd one .
It also showed me that changing to a wavetrac lsd or similar wont affect my ACD as I initially thought it would .
I want to clarify, the front differential is inside the transmission and the center differential is in the transfer case hence ACD (Active CENTER Differential).

My 2005 ACD equipped IX does not have a front LSD
Very helpful and informative video btw. 👍🏽

Hi do you know if you need to loosen the banjo bolt when you need to bleed the ACD
So what is the cause of the transfer case wine is my question what do I have to replace to rebuild it in order to get rid of it

It's not a single pressure, but varying amounts. Just reflash the acd ecu
Would you say putting a wavetrac in an acd evo around the 600tq only used for roll and drag racing be waste of time?
I just swappaed a 4g93 allwheel dr8ve to my lancer. Problem is i haven't installed the rear drivelines and etc. Can i run my car without a driveline for the rear diffs? Or can i lock it out? If so, how? Thanks. Hope you can help.
Awesome Stuff!!! is there a part 2 with the ring and pinion?
Thanks! No plans for a ring and pinion video. Probably leave that part to the professionals.
@@BoostedFilms Any chance you know if the ring and pinion are interchangable between genereations?
that is the same transfercase that we can find on an outlander II??
Can you tell my if am lift of gas pedal there is noise like bering ...its can by central diff bering?
So confusing. You have only the front diff on the desk not the center diff.

u can use an evo x t case nd not ise the acd system.....its always 50/50....

What was the name on the guy that did his own shims? Would ask if he would sell any .
I believe hes referring to TRE, Team rip engineering. They're one of a couple well known shops that do drive train rebuilds for the evos.
Good video ! best mechanical diffs and forget XD
Anyone know if the evo 7-9 transfer case will fit on a 4-6
I currently have an acd t-case in my evo 8. however it was filled with redline shockproof fluid. ive been told its better to run diaqueen. can i simply drain all the fluid out the best i can and fill with diaqueen. or could i run into problems having redline residue still being inside?

How much wheel horse can a stock TC handle and can a TC be hardened to handle more HP?
The stock ACD can take about 550hp and 480 torque Which is honestly not that bad but anything after that it’s over I work with an Evo Tuner and that’s usually when the stock tcase ends up taking a shit
the evo x t case its always 50/50.....the ACD system only controls how much power to send to the front or back.....
bro...
the output ring gear in the transmission is nothing more than an output shaft .. which connects to that sleeve on the center dif...
quit saying front dif on the trans... cause it's not a dif...
it's just an output that goes to the dif in the transfer cause which then directs power when needed
Incorrect.
