Gary Reflects on His Service to America's Heroes, Receives USS Midway American Patriot Award

- On behalf of our very own Gary Sinise and everyone at the Gary Sinise Foundation, we were truly honored to receive the prestigious Midway America Patriot Award for Gary's life’s work of tirelessly serving our nation’s veterans and first responder communities. San Diego, and specifically the USS Midway, hold a special place in Gary’s heart. He and the Lt. Dan Band have played several concerts on deck, and we even launched the Gary Sinise Foundation San Diego Chapter on the famous battleship in 2021. The USS Midway team did a fantastic job hosting the special night celebrating Gary and his mission to serve our nation's heroes. Thank you, USS Midway Museum & Foundation; we are grateful for our long-standing alliance and look forward to a bright future serving the communities across San Diego. Why do I always tear up when I read about Gary Sinise and what this wonderful man has done for our military? Next to my hero brother, who flew an Apache Longbow in Afghanistan in 20007, Gary is my hero….24 carat gold in every way. Thank you for your love for our military!!

I am so blessed to watch Gary and the foundation he created change lives. It's so incredible to see him give of his time to be with service men, women and the veterans to show them that he cares for them, and show them that they are not alone. He truly is a blessing. Gary Sinise reminds me everyday to stay humble and always keep an eye open in hopes of helping another. I grew up as a Military dependent as my DAD was a 30 year Officer in The USAF with 17 of those years as a Pilot. I know all about Sacrifice and seeing a Parent go off to Serve our Country! Gary serves those who have kept America Free and I'm eternally grateful for his service to The Veterans and I'm grateful to those who Donate To The Gary Sinise Foundation! God Bless All
I don't know who said it, but there was a quote that says something like "90% of life is just showing up". Gary sure showed up, but he did a hell of a lot more than just showing up. Mad respect for Gary & all he does for vets.

Hey Gary my father in law served on that great ship in WWII.USS MIDWAY SAW MANY OF OUR HEROES . Every single one of those men and women who served were more than proud to be of service and duty.
You 99 percent that never stepped-up, you are welcome. The liberty you enjoy, save you thanks, just nod your head and know you never had to sacrifce. Peace and quite is your luxury.
I never really thought about Lt. Dan's emphasis on dry socks in parallel that he wouldn't even need them later. A little bit of foreshadowing I missed for thirty years.
My son is a 101st airborne sniper. He got a TBI along with other multiple injuries. He would barely smile/laugh until one day I did the ole “hi Lt Dan” wave that Tom Hanks does in Forest Gump (one of his favorite movies).
Now on top of providing my son with much needed laughter, the GSF is helping us with home modifications.
