Cape Cod Canal Striper Fishing: July 2024 Report

- A look back at what lures worked for me during July 2024. This report isn't about the quantity or size of the fish I caught or the spots along the Canal where I caught them... Instead, I focus on what lures, sizes, profiles and colors worked for me during the month.
July 2024 was another challenging month but I was able to catch stripers on swimmers, jigs and top water lures! During July we saw some epic top water blitzing fish, but they were keyed in on small bait so the majority of the bite during July was on jigs. Further, the majority of fish were small, schoolies sized fish. Similar to June, if you put the time in and kept working your lures you were able to find them but it wasn't easy...
Thanks for the informative video Matt. Your insight, advice and tips are greatly appreciated.
Thanks Don - always appreciate the support! 🎣🐟
Great canal info Matt specially for people like me that drive so far to score a big BASS unfortunately the week I was there the fish didn't show up 😒😒
Thanks Andis, always appreciate the support!! The big ones will be here for your next visit for sure!! 🎣🎼
Hey Matt, I’m new to the Boston area and am looking to get into Striper fishing at the canal, and I had a question. You talked about rotating baits this video; how long will you fish with a bait with no bites before switching? I don’t have a good feel for this yet
That’s a good question Jack - the reality is that it depends. Typically I’ll make 6-12 casts with a jig before I rotate. Sometimes with top water pencils I’ll go to 2 dozen casts before changing.
Stay in Boston IMO. Try fishing at Draw Seven Park with a small sinking magic swimmer. High tide is ideal
Good. Idea..Heading there in acouple weeks.I see you don’t use Al gags?Or do you.
I do use a couple of Al Gags Whip It Fish jigs in rotation but during July those didn’t produce for me, maybe during August - we’ll see… 🎣🐟
Great stuff Matt. Keep up the good work....
Thanks Jeff - always appreciate the support! 🎣🐟
IDK where you live, but Boston has been a lot better than the Cape this year IMO. The bunker are in thick right now into the rivers/dams. Message me if you want any spots. I'll be down at the Cape all next week, probably hit Popponesset beach at sun rise for the top water bite and then the canal depending on tides.
Great video matt
Thanks Rick - appreciate it!! 🎣🐟
Nice video Matt
Thank you, always appreciate the support!! Tight lines!! 🎣🐟
Hey matt thanks for sharing your wisdom. Hoping I’ll run into you soon I’m coming for that sticker!!😊
I’ll be ready - just put the basket on my new bike so I’ll have them with me! 🎣🐟
Nice video excellent. . you had better luck in the canal than I had surf fishing out on the Cape. the catch was not that great this year
Thank you for watching - I appreciate it! It certainly hasn’t been the best year at the Canal, but with ALL the time I spend there I was able to get into a couple good bites. 🎣🐟
Great video
Thanks Oskee - appreciate your support as always!! Happy birthday again buddy! 🎂
If you spend all your time fishing one part of the day "morning". Of course your going to have a whack month. Try fishing at night like your name implies. All i see on your channel is small fish no skills. Typical canal blitz fishermen. 👎
Sooo….what type of lures would you recommend for night fishing on the canal?
Great Content 👍🏼
Thank you, I appreciate your viewership! 🎣🐟
