Cape Cod Canal Striper Fishing: Topwater in Tight
While the 2024 season was filled with highs and lows, every now and then a fun topwater bite came together. That was the case on this early August morning - striped bass were feeding on mackerel and they were feeding on topwater in tight to the rocks! It made for a fun morning with Mike & Jay - we all landed numerous fish, here's a quick look at some of mine from that morning.

Cape Cod Canal Striper Fishing: August 2024 Report

A look back at what lures worked for me during August 2024. This report isn't about the quantity or size of the fish I caught or the spots along the Canal where I caught them... Instead, I focus on what lures, sizes, profiles and colors worked for me during the month. August 2024 was another challenging month of hot and cold. There was a lot more cold than hot, including a three-week long stret...

Cape Cod Canal Striper Fishing: Chasing Topwater Action
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
Mid-July 2024 saw a number of days featuring very consistent topwater action at the Canal. The only downside was that these bass weren't very big and they were keyed in on tiny bait and often didn't pay much attention to the lures we threw from the rocks. That said, this made for an exhilarating series of days spent zipping along the Canal service road launching casts into breaking fish. Rod: T...
Cape Cod Canal Striper Fishing: Quick Visit Before Work

I didn't have much time, an hour to be exact, to get to the Canal, fish and get back home to get ready for work and arrive on time... Not to be deterred, I headed on a strategic visit to the Canal a few weeks back. I skipped the bike and parked where I wanted to fish, walked down and claimed a rock. I rotated through a handful of lures, with a glider and a small magic swimmer eliciting bites bu...

Early July 2024 was a series of action-packed mornings at the Cape Cod Canal. Over the course of the first week of July the whole crew got on fish and it was a ton of fun! Striped bass from schoolie class fish right up through over-slot sized fish were landed. You'll see Rob, Joe, Jay, Chet, Mike, Kurt and myself all land striped bass! The bite was primarily topwater, but jigs produced as well ...

Cape Cod Canal Striper Fishing: Summer 2024 Kick Off - Part 2
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.2 месяца назад
Early June 2024 was a grind at the Canal. First light bites were sporadic, quick and far & few between. The late spring season offered little in the way of stripers. A look at the tide chart for the first weekend of summer showed a slack tide right around first light with a low tide at the West End around sunrise. Combined with a storm that came across the state the night prior and a forecast f...

Cape Cod Canal Striper Fishing: Fall Run FRENZY!
That’s what it’s about RT
You know it!! Fish on!! 🎣🐟
You make it look easy Matt
That’s the goal! We’ll get into the fish this week for sure Andis!! 🎣🐟
Awesome video! I liked that Ron Arra popper too!
Rob you know it - another always have it lure. Great casting distance. Throws a lot of water. Catches fish… 🎣🐟
how do reach that part of fbell road?
Just drive to the end of Bell Road, it’s public access
Nice CCC bonito. It's always fun to catch. Great work Matt.🤙
Thanks Jeff! Appreciate it! 🎣🐟
B&B on the C.C.C.
You know it! 🎣🐟
Matt Im heading there this weekend but what l;ure did they use for the beautiful bonito?
The bonito was caught on a Yo Zuri Hydro Minnow 170F in chicken scratch. 🎣🐟
So cool thanks for sharing matt
Happy to share, thanks for watching!! 🎣🐟
Any luck on those big tides lately? Been hard to keep a jig down
I’ll be back out there this weekend, was out for a few days this week. 🎣🐟
@@nightshiftfishing I will be there tomorrow morning hopefully this rain stops a bit, ill say hi if I see you
the blue was excited to see you lol
Ha, oh yeah… lol 🎣🐟
manage to get a keeper at the jetty and some bites at the railroad and then the nuclear power plant so unpredictable
It’s definitely unpredictable… Stick with it and the results will come with the time you’re putting in. Moving around and trying different spots is always a good plan. 🎣🐟
Hi i never catch big fishes so this is my first time to go there for fishing so can you please suggest me some address there and some tips ?? And last question is septembor good time to go to fish?? If you reply i will feel glad thanks
September is generally a good time for the Canal. Check out the recreation areas at either end. The Army Corps has a map that show parking areas. Spend some time watching what others are doing and you should be able to see what areas produce and how to work the lures they’re using.
@@nightshiftfishing thanks you are very hamble and nice man
Can you make a lure hunting video please
I have a couple: Fishing Lure Rescue ruclips.net/p/PLg_Bx33OKX0_n-1XUoe9Xxwu1myadDe3J
@@nightshiftfishing Thanks
Hey matt I’m new to your channel but I do watch some on the water and I’m currently down in west Yarmouth right now and have fished the past two days with no stripers but some small blue fish some Krokers and northern king fish here inshore on squid but I was wondering if you’ve been out at all recently to know what theve been bitten on there?
For bait I typically use chuck mackerel or squid so it sounds like you’re trying the right stuff. Maybe try early mornings if you’re looking for stripers. If you’re out on the beaches, throwing poppers at first light and metal lips or needles before first light would be a good option.
All stripers are good. Some are just gooder than others! 😊 Thanks for taking us along Matt. Sipping my cawfee first thing in the morning and watching your videos makes me want to be out there bending a rod too! Soon enough I hope.
Thanks Don, as always, for watching! Definitely worth getting out there the fall run fun is just getting underway!! 🎣🐟
Nice catching. I gonna travel to cape cod canal this weekend. This gonna be 1st time there. I earned some experience from you after watched some videos you shared about lure fishing. Thanks you so much. Tight light. New Sub 🎣🎣🎣
Thank you for watching and subscribing!! Good luck out there this weekend, I’ll be around all weekend too. Say hi if you see me, I almost always have some NightShift stickers to share. Tight lines! 🎣🐟
Right in front of the power plant 2016 I catch my first striped bass nice video Matt
Great memory Andis - that area is always worth checking!! 🎣🐟
Solid report! Wish I lived closer to fish that spot 😎
Thanks!! Yeah, it is an awesome place for sure!! 🎣🐟
Outstanding
Thank you!! I hope all is well out West! 🎣🐟
@@nightshiftfishing pretty good . Can’t wait to get Back home but gotta stick to the plan
Thats my buddy Brad Rodgers from Pennsylvania. American Angler member. Great dude. Thanks for sharing a tide with him.
Got him hooked to the canal 3 years ago. Comes back 2 or 3 times a year. He will be back in June for the Ditch Cup.
So cool - that’s some small world stuff right there. Brad is a super nice guy and was a pleasure to fish alongside for a couple days this past weekend. The guy definitely put his time in and earned that fish. After I recorded this video he went and picked up a couple of the lures from this report and the next day he put on an absolute clinic, fish after fish outpacing just about everyone else there. Happy to see him get on the fish! 🎣🐟
@nightshiftfishing he's definitely dedicated. Thanks again, Matt, for taking care of him. Much respect 🙏
Haven't had much luck this season :(
It’s certainly been a tough year so you’re not alone. For each one of the videos I make there are countless other hours of skunk-city… Just keep putting in the time and stay positive. We’re moving into the fall run and with the bait that’s around and the number of fish to our North it’s setting up to be a good run for sure! 🎣🐟
Excellent video as always-learn something new every time!
Thanks Rob, looking forward to seeing you back out there soon! 🎣🐟
Memorial Day morning was absolutely killer
It certainly was!! 🎣🐟
Great report
Thanks Joe! I hope the recovery is progressing smoothly and that we’ll see you out there sooner rather than later! 🎣🐟
I don't want to remember those 3 bad week of august I drove 600 miles to skunked almost every day good video Matt
I hear you Andis - that was a rough stretch. But at least you were able to get a couple of stripers!! Plus some cool stickers and a hat! 🤣 There will always be your next trip to look forward to! You’ll get em!! 🎣🐟
@@nightshiftfishing For sure Matt was nice to meet you, Oskee, Willie and others all over the canal thanks for the stickers n hat i really appreciate 🎣🎣🎣🎣👊👊
@@ANDISCORREA great to meet you too! Beyond impressed with how far you travel to fish the ditch - a lot of respect for you buddy! 🎣🐟
Been to the canal 4-5 times this year and haven't had any luck. Mostly been jigging. Going to try some of these top waters you have used in the past couple of months and hoping to get one this coming month. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and good luck out there. You’re not alone, it’s been a rough year overall. I spend a lot of days catching nothing for each one of the videos I make showing fish being caught… I’d recommend mixing up spots along the Canal and watching what others are doing who do catch. One technique I use is to rotate through approaches too. Try a jig for a dozen casts, then a swimmer for a dozen casts and then a top water pencil, and so on… I also rotate form factors so I use a long/skinny jig then I switch to a short/fat body jig. Same with swimmers, first will be an SP Minnow style swimmer then a stick shad with a different profile. For top water I try the OutCast with the hybrid style then a traditional pencil like a Left Eye. Sometimes it’s just being in the right spot, other times it’s finding the color or form factor that the fish want. Tight lines!
🤙
🙌🏻🙌🏻
Great rod 👏🏽
Thanks - I really like the blank and I think Glenn did an awesome build!
Do you know anyone that fix a rod? My black hole special striped bass edition is broken?
Sorry to hear about the rod - check out GW Customs in Wareham, MA - he’s the best, I’m sure he can help you out.
@@nightshiftfishing it broke twice. It always the the top tip? Is this normal for black hole rod? I have Odm jiggster, since the day i bought until now, I never have any problem
Nice rod and fish keep up the good work!🤟
Thanks, appreciate that. Will do!
Wow
cool video....that music though, is hot garbage. had to quit. nice fishing though!
Hows it been this august?
August was hot and cold, more cold than hot though…
Good choice Matt they goin crazy after the jigs
Thanks Andis - yeah we got on a nice jig bite for sure this day! 🎣🐟
Getting jiggy with it
You know it!! 🎣🐟🐟
Do you ever use Rapala X Raps?See they make a Long Cast version or Shallow runner like 4’to 8’ diverand others like the sub walk.Could you recommend one of these?
So I haven’t tried a Rapala for the Canal at all. I have a few small ones I use in Florida and in some back bays/creeks in the Spring but I’m not sure which ones they are.
love to see it
Thanks!! 🎣🐟
Was there last week and fished a few mornings to catch the current change.Got skunked. Not much going on from what I was told.Saw a few fish caught.
Credit to you for getting out there - skunks have been frequent this year... Hopefully the tide turns for the fall run!
Great video, Matt. That was a fun morning of chasing them down!
Thanks Chet - always a pleasure to fish with you. It was great to see you back out there on the rocks yesterday!
The top water bite is the best bite!! Let’s go!!
You know it Mr. P, nothing better than a top water striper bite! 🎣🐟
Good stuff Matt. Nothing better than a top water bite.
Thanks Jeff - agreed, nothing better than topwater! 🎣🐟
Always good ….
Thanks Joe - hope the recovery is coming along! 🎣🐟
Awesome video bro! That top water blow up was really cool too!
Thanks Rob - it really was a fun time, that topwater blitz was beyond wild to watch for sure! 🎣🐟
Thanks for the video love watching u guys catch 👏💪🏼🎣
Thanks!! 🎣🐟 I appreciate the support.
Not sure what is more annoying...the heavy breathing or loose ass drag on a schoolie 🤔 . I'm glad I don't fish anywhere near this canal. I put my salary on it... you guys would jump in people pockets when you see bent rods. Anyways tight lines or loose drag in this case. Adios
Why you such a hater, chill my dude it’s an innocent fishing video
These dudes can’t fish anywhere else. No fish in the canal = no videos.
Where was this?
Which side of the cape is this on
Cape side, between the bridges.
All stripers are good. Some are even gooder! Can’t all be giants. A bent rod is better than an unbent rod. They’ll get bigger I ‘m sure Matt. Sorry you have to go do that 4 letter word. W.O.R._ Fill in the blank.
Absolutely, especially this season - any striper is a good striper! I am fortunate to have the ability to do this once in a while before work, I’m glad it paid off! 🎣🐟
My guy...... just pull the cardboard from the top of the packaging.....
Wow 🤯. 65lb braid. 14K TwinPower. And you got your drag loose af on a schoolie. You got a setup to wrangle a pelagic fish. Your setup is bewildering.
Stick Shadd works again…
It’s been clutch this season for sure! 🎣🐟
