      @@freedomfighter9976 I'm really not sure. I feel so much more recovered now than ever, but if anxiety comes I still find it hard to resist compulsions. For me, it has been helpful to try and find out where the anxiety is coming from in the first place, as I believe the thoughts (whatever they are) will attach themselves to the anxiety that is present in the body. Caffeine is one source of anxiety for me, but there are a myriad of things. OCD started for me when I went through some very difficult life situations. If the body is at peace I believe the mind will follow.

      I try to accept to a degree that we may have inherit good and bad qualities just like everyone else, but ocd makes us focus more on those bad qualities. OCD can help us find where we may have inherit immoral attributes and what is just extra fluff and anxiety. This can be a blessing in disguise. By acknowledging and accepting the worst part of ourselves, we can use it as a tool to actually behave and live how we feel we actually want, which most people strive to live life as a good person. I'm referring mostly to Carl Jung's concept of integrating the shadow.

    What about the times when you dont exactly get the 'OCD thoughts' but feel stuck with anxiety at the back of your mind. Its worse than having the OCDthoughts becuase you dont even know what to ignore here coz anxiety does not go away when ignored but continues to debilitate you,how to deal with that?

    • @JacquelineDeWitt12
      @JacquelineDeWitt12 4 года назад +36

      NEONABSENCE I’m not sure if you ever got an answer, but incase you didn’t, the thing you have to do is label this as anxiety and refocus. Anxiety that comes without the thoughts is something I deal with a lot. Or I will have my obsession triggered somehow and instead of engaging I just let it go and am left with this horrible feeling that something is wrong and needs to be dealt with. But that baseless anxious feeling you’re talking about is from chemicals in your brain going wild. It’s a terrible, scary feeling, but as Ali says you need to walk parallel to it and not engage. There’s a 99.9% chance that it will go away if you label it for what it is and just keep pushing. Your brain can’t stay in that state forever, the anxiety will go down as you move on. It doesn’t feel like it will, but it will.

    • @renakmans3521
      @renakmans3521 4 года назад +2

      Jacqueline DeWitt That’s great! Just to add because I have exactly the same issue, is that I found placing awareness on the anxiety rather than wishing it away sometimes helps. We all want it to go but that’s the backhanded trick, it’s less likely to go until you truly allow it to be there. Really feel it! Rupert Spira is a meditation advocate who talks in depth on this, very deep! I also like Tolle and Mooji, who also make you realize you are not your thoughts or feelings, but it takes some effort at first to it be controlled by both.

      @prashantnaik19 2 года назад +6

      @@honeykumar5448 Thank you for checking Honey sir. Thankfully I am out of OCD since Jan/Feb on this year. One thing I would certainly like to advise and hopefully it will help others is, one of the most important things you need to get out of OCD is to be absolutely firm and tell yourself "I am not going to do this compulsion, no matter what. Let that urge to do the compulsion be with me no longer how long it wants to, but am just not going to do it. And am not doing a single compulsion from now on, not even one." The urge to do any compulsion fades away faster than you think. Just ensure you are firm on not doing the compulsion at all. Honestly i think this is probably the most important thing in recovery from OCD. No matter how much external help you seek, ultimately its you who has to do it and trust me its a lot lot easier than we think. Just that we need to be rock firm "I am simply not doing it. To hell with whatever obsessively thoughts i get. They are just thoughts, they don't mean anything for sure". Follow this and OCD will not bother you. OCD is like people teasing someone who gets irritated. The moment you stop getting irritated, people don't want to tease you any longer as there is no fun. OCD is same. Ignore it, it will go away on its own. Don't try to make it go, it will feel special and will stay. Just ignore it. Good luck to all in need, God Bless :)

    Personally, I externalise the thoughts/compulsions by actually narrating them in my head. When I do that all my compulsions start to sound like ridiculous ideas for an activity. For example: "Yes, I'm going to spend my free evening with distraction/worrying. Or: Yes, I"m going to look at myself in the mirror and judge myself for not liking my appearance, then spend the rest of the day feeling insecure and worrying about other people judging me.
    I find that aggresive sarcasm also bring a level of emotion and heavyness with it and it doesn't work for me. Its just not how my inner dialogue works. Any thoughts?

    I like the idea of the sarcastic response but I find it hard to apply it to my obsessive thoughts which may actually be true - for example, having made a mistake in my work, my biggest obsession. I guess my point is, for an obsession about hurting people it's easier to say 'sure I'm going to hurt someone, lots of people etc) because that's very unlikely, but there's a REALLY good chance I DID make a mistake in my work and it's going to have consequences. Hey ali,
    How do you distinguish between compulsions and normal thoughts?
    As example i m suffering from hocd and in the past i used thoughts about woman as reassurance
    Now that i m recovering i get those thoughts normally but dont know if i m allowed to engage in them because i dont know if it s a compulsion or not

    Hi Ali, can you advise me? My sister has OCD of fear of feces contamination and when she bathes, she spends lots of time washing her buttocks and keeps forgetting if she already washed even after doing so.
    Her mind keeps threatening her that she might have missed a spot. She also washes whatever she touches (e.g. water tap, shower head) fearing that she had passed feces from her hands to them and the same forgetful episodes occur.
    If my sister were to use the aggressive approach, does she play along with the intrusive thought and proceed with the excessive washing while keeping calm and chill about it?

    Yes but what if the problem is the physical symptom anxiety produces. My anxiety is all centred around breathing. I have weeks where I feel I can’t breath and Iam constantly hyperventilating I know it’s anxiety but it’s also a physical uncomfortable symptom also.!! I know Iam over analysing and constantly watching my breath but it’s really hard as you have to breath to live. I hope that makes sender.

    Ali but what if I'm reacting with sarcasm and agree with the thought and then I will really convince myself of what I'm agreeing with? If I continue to say like yes I'm a bad person, I can end believe it? I don't know if it's really ocd or depression (which I'm really scared of) so they have 2 different mode to recovery like if I'm really depressed I don't think that say to my self yes I'm a bad person will be good in this case so how do I know what to do? How do I know if it's ocd telling me or depression?

    I struggle with real event ocd I'm 19 x and basically this is gonna sound so disturbing but when I was like 10 or 9 I used to pee on the floor in my bedroom and yeah I know it was there ages and kept doing it etc idk why I did it, I It was because at the time that bedroom was my attic and I was worried about going all the way downstairs. maybe it was secretly my ocd because later I then developed contamination ocd wierd right
    anyway had many themes up to now didn't realise it was ocd until I was 17 or so.
    I just worry that all that stuff I did when i was 10 or 9 my mother did clean it all the best she could.
    and then we moved out long time ago not because of the just wanted to move. but I worry because of the next family who lived there or at the time how i lived in that way when i was 10 what if I got someone ill and yeah
    somehow gave them mental health idk x or killed somone if I gave them a infection I know it was stupid and I was only a kid looking back the room stinked badly and for obvious reasons🤣 just yeah worries me at times.

    I like the last one and I deal with hocd and I can do it without really feeling anxious but I still have a tight chest and a little pit in my stomach but right after my brain wants to say I’m the straightest person on earth so I shouldn’t allow my brain to do the second part

      And my brain wants to keep saying i am the straightest person on earth is that a compulsion?? And I’m married with two kids and I’ve had a phobia since I was a teenager because I had a girl in my 6th grade class ask me if I liked boys and I said no not yet which was a lie cause I had a crush on one in the previous year but he got picked on because of me, and so when I said that she asked me why are you gay and I had this huge shock come over me and I said no.

    What happens when you obsess over one word? That word keeps coming in all day everyday , how do you get rid of that? You just obsess over one word that you’re afraid off. I can’t find any information anywhere about that. I would appreciate anyone s advice that have dealt with this and knows about it.

    Awesome advice! The only problem is: how can I implement it on intrusive thoughts that are blasphemous, like when my mind is cursing God. I can't sarcastically agree with it! This would be blasphemous and just add to my fears. Any ideas on how to go about such blasphemous thoughts? They make me feel terrible and make me repeat my prayers over and over.

      I agree I as well have scrupulosity and fear giving away my soul or loved ones into the hands of evil. So of course, I cannot agree, even sarcastically, just as you cannot agree with a blasphemous thought.
