All I know is that I use USB ports for connecting 32 gb USB drives typically to computer to transfer files to thr USB drive. Those are the type USB drives I use even though some are USB drive 2.0 or even USB drive 3.0 (for fastest data transfer) - I don't know if they are USB a or C

yes, this dongle lets you do that. so far, i have used it for pdfs, office docs and pics/vids between usb drives/microsd cards and my iphones*6sPlus*SE2020 and ipad 7 the one shown here. you just have to make sure your iphone or ipad is on ios13 or ipadOS13, and that for these files... use the built-in "Files" app to make the transfers.

yes, it works vice versa for both iphone/ipad to drive, and drive to ipad/iphone. works on my 6sPlus, SE2020 and ipad 7th gen. the requirement to this is that you must be on ios13/ipadOS13 and higher which these devices have or can update to in the case of my champion 6sPlus!!!
but i have an old 2015??? ssd portable drive from seagate, it can't see it. i think i just need a new ssd drive, but older usb thumb drives and micro sd cards with a usb connected adapter is no problem at all. also, your tranfers are not limited to photos or video formats, you can also transfer office docs like pp/word/excel, pdfs, etc... and open it with the correct app from your iphone/ipad. just use the built-in "files" app in iphone/ipad.

i'm not a power user, so i don't know what your needs are for the 32gb ipad 7... but we have the same capacity ipad 7 and i use google photos together with the built-in photos app. i delete the pics/vids in the photos app after a while, but the "decent for me" quality pics/vids are backed up into google photos. that way i still have them, but not taking up space on my iphone or ipad. but using this apple lightning to usb3 dongle, i can still have the uncompressed pics/vids copied over to a thumbdrive/micro sd for later processing. this dongle may be what you need.👍
