I personally wouldn't want these guys taking apart an old Mac CRT with millions of volts and tens of amps potentially stored inside it. The technicians that fixed them back in the day had to be trained and certified before they were allowed to take one apart.
For all those peeps saying that Linus said 2017 instead 2018 have to chill out a bit because he is right, that pc build is One of the fastest gaming pc of 2017, 2018 will have much faster builds.
T Davis why do you want to add rgb to a fully closed in solid case?, theres no tampered glass, no glass, no transparent panel whatsoever. its a sleeper, not a ricer.
it would improve performance because of lowered aspect ratio at the sacrifice of better looking higher resolutions not showing its full sleeper abilities kind of making it pointless
helptheinnocent andhelpless Hey I love to watch your channel and i seen this some kind of giveaway you are offering I have a pc and looking for a gpu like(gtx 1050) .I have a very tight budget I am trying to collect money but all in vain lols. If you can help me with this It would be appreciative.I am going to be a programmer very soon after 4 years.
You can't say it is the fastest in 2018, because you can't predict who is going to build what this year. But you can say it is the fastest in 2017 because you know nobody has built anything like this. And Happy New Year.
WEll, Silverstone has you covered. They have a HTPC case that looks like a repurposed computer case from the late 80's, early 90's. (Except that it's black, not beige.) www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163257
+MPG187 Why get rid of it? As long as it supports normal card height and you're good with a dremel, a drill, and a tap and die set, you can make it work.
Xx maTrix I have one. Well, it’s not modern it’s 5 years old and the white floppy drive looks shit out of place on a black Corsair case. But it does look funny though.
Xx maTrix Well, once really, that I can remember. My mother has an old stack of floppy disks that she used to keep some files (pictures I think) and wanted me to try to recover them and back them up. I also have one that was used to install Windows 3.1 but it’s disk 5 of 6. Never tried to load it up but I doubt it’s still working.
I lost count of how many of this channel's videos I've watched this morning, & I wasn't planning on signing in for anything(as I've made the process for even obtaining my crazy password a pain in the interest of security[=the polar opposite of convenience]), but after enjoying this video so much, I felt I just HAD to subscribe & +1 this vid. Thanks so much for the content you guys put on here. You're living my dream & I haven't been this jealous since discovering Ronald Jenkees music playing videos!(He's also living one of my few dreams) Keep up the good work guys!!!
I think the UV cathode kinda gives it away. If it went for a more unlit look, it would be more believable. Great video though, I like the machine and would be fun rolling into a LAN party or convention with that thing and get some heads turned.
Yub, completely agree. Guess it would have looked too "boring" otherwise. On the other hand I don't think that a case with two floppy drives was the best choice anyways. You could have done something cool with the old "turbo" buttons for example. Also in such a build I couldn't care less about what hardware is inside and the benchmark values. But I guess LGR or the 8-Bit-Guy are more suites for these kind of things anyways. Btw: None of you are born before 82....whaaat? ^^ -Kordanor (born 82)
ive been wanting a sleeper for ages now! This was awesome! Let me know if you want sleeper servers or something... Got a room at work that hasent been touched since the 80's or something. PC towers the size of a small fridge.. The whole room gives me a creepy Stranger things vibe...
There was a case they used which was smaller than a ps4 chassis but it used air cooling iirc. ruclips.net/video/c3mwmZe55BA/видео.html sanırım şu vatandaştı o
The case reminds me of the old IBM 5150 cases. Down in Texas there's a place called Computer Reset which is a warehouse full of old retro hardware. It may be worth a trip to find a cool case to re-purpose.
The only thing more challenging would be an old Amica or Apple case. Get any older, and we're talking main and mini frame PC's... (Think 6 foot tall server racks.)
the only flaw I couldn't accept (if I had done this myself) is the double sided tape that's visible on the drive bay/LED panels this build is incredible though! very well done :)
how about a sleeper monitor too. its weird to see that old case with a recent monitor.
they can't
there aer no high resolution monitors with the required 4:3 aspect ratio.
They could try making old-style case for a new monitor (non-functional like those floppy-disk covers).
xLoB63x Keyboard too
André Martins Insanely high refresh rate, right?
there was a 28 inch crt monitor back in 95, so they can make a sleeper monitor if they can get their hands on one..they can even make an AiO out if it
my old pc is a reverse to this one,its box looks edgy but inside there s a toaster with a wifi adapter jack.
Wòofy Wòoflez ricer
Ahh yes a woke pc

make a CRT monitor into an all in one?
I've dreamed of that.
That would be the best.
:0
I wonder if a free-sync can even be fitted into a uni built compaq pc though if you don´t have a too big monitor to swap in?
IDK if that would work, but I think it's possible.. s h r u g

LMG - Light Machine Gun. I know it's supposed to mean Linus Media Group
Almost a year has gone by since your comment
go any older and there won't be an issue with size of the case.
Haha
It would be funny to see them to use a 50's pc even though its the size of a room.
It would probably be impossible to do though
Actually using some of the old cases with integrated CRT monitor would do really nice build, imagine using the CRT to show some temps aswell.. even in B/W.

I personally wouldn't want these guys taking apart an old Mac CRT with millions of volts and tens of amps potentially stored inside it. The technicians that fixed them back in the day had to be trained and certified before they were allowed to take one apart.
Chris Tyburski Destorying old PCs, working or not, should be a crime...
Another problem would be the form factor of the screen, it's no longer 4:3 (or whatever the Mac was.
this is my favorite series on this channel
For all those peeps saying that Linus said 2017 instead 2018 have to chill out a bit because he is right, that pc build is One of the fastest gaming pc of 2017, 2018 will have much faster builds.
Love it... Though the lower RGB sort of ruins its sleeper appearance...
T Davis its adds that retro look [-_-]
T Davis why do you want to add rgb to a fully closed in solid case?, theres no tampered glass, no glass, no transparent panel whatsoever. its a sleeper, not a ricer.
T Davis yup
This comment killed me... ;)
ThyBonesConsumed nothing retro about rgb PC componets sure, nothing retro about rgb. One word, DISCO
Pair that thing with a crt tv or a cheap 4 by 3 lcd to match the computer
but then it couldn't run games the same?? Thats really not a good idea, they could custom make a cover for a gaming monitor though
pair it with a modern display inside an old CRT display
it would improve performance because of lowered aspect ratio at the sacrifice of better looking higher resolutions not showing its full sleeper abilities kind of making it pointless
How about an old crt monitor with CGA graphics from 1982? That would match the IBM PC XT aesthetics.
They should make the sleeper PC inside of an old bulky monitor. Plenty of room inside.
Love the 80s-style compilation at the end!
This was my first video to watch in the new year!
Only Linus would put rgb ram in a windowless case
hey build a budget for 2018
Budget of $10,000
+Ben Sisto You sure i am just hitler?
Nein!Nein!Nein!
Hi dad
It's not worth to do it now. They made one not so long ago. Maybe after new generation tech
The Morrow MD-2 was my very first computer.
In the intro, it says "Memes" in binary.
Like so people know.
...
Every time you make a video, Ram prices increase by $5! XD
You should do a sleeper monitor.
Might as well make sleeper peripherals. Such as a roller ball style mouse with high tech internals and a retro keyboard with cherry switches
Just use an IBM Model M. Uses PS/2 connector and is a legit 1994 mech keyboard :)
We need more horizontal sleeper PC builds !!!
You need to do a sleeper monitor build to match it! Take one of the old cube monitors and replace the inside with a 1440p 144hz OLED or LCD!!!
You're gonna have to 3d print an entirely new chassis just to satisfy the 16:9 aspect ratio.
There's some 16x9 and 16x10 crts out there.
Ray Of Knowledge I'm pretty sure there are some older 16:9 monitors out there, and even if there aren't I'm positive Linus can figure it out!
Make a sleeper monitor
helptheinnocent andhelpless wtf are you on about haha
helptheinnocent andhelpless your caps lock button stuck?
helptheinnocent andhelpless why do I get to know that you're just a spam bot
Chaos drone love that idea!
helptheinnocent andhelpless Hey I love to watch your channel and i seen this some kind of giveaway you are offering I have a pc and looking for a gpu like(gtx 1050) .I have a very tight budget I am trying to collect money but all in vain lols. If you can help me with this It would be appreciative.I am going to be a programmer very soon after 4 years.
Linus “As Fast as a gaming Pc can be in 2017”
It’s 2018
You can't say it is the fastest in 2018, because you can't predict who is going to build what this year. But you can say it is the fastest in 2017 because you know nobody has built anything like this. And Happy New Year.
plot twist
Sickest PC build of 2017!
LGR would disagree about it being useless ;)
Nicholas W Cole I agree with you
As what Shakespeare once said,
“Fuckin worth it bro!”
That 80's ending montage gave me nipple-sized goosebumps!
that old pc would rocked, I wouldn't sleeper it
The rgb showing is like a car having drag slicks, you know something’s up.
Would be nice to see linus building again not just doing voice over.
If anyone wants to know the binary at 0:41 translates to "Meme"
Exactly, it's actually "Memes"
ha, i was just converting it in my head and wondered if anyone else had done it.
Tom Bunyon crap! Oh well I was close enough
Carrot no it translates to his internet history!!😂😂😂
Oh, I thought it was DJENT.
i find it pretty poetic; on the outside its old, and anyone would dismiss it without a second glance, but on the inside. it is glorious.
The rgbs in that thing really fuckin kill the 80s vibe
Mitchell Huse nah man....
You should fit a whole computer inside an old CRTmonitor for your next sleeper pc built.!!!
Why they used to built Liquid cooling in this old PC instead of Air Cooling ??
@@aaadj2744 because the only mini graphics card they had was liquid cooled with a block
TheElite47
And it didn't fit right ?
So weird looking at videos "uploaded 1st January 2018"
no it isnt
Happy new year
I love the 2017 vibs of this video! These were the real good old days. Even tho the new vids are better
You really need to mount an LCD screen in a CRT case or something.
Agreed. Pairing with relatively large flat LCD feels way to weird for such case. It makes whole thing much uglier then it should be.
Disgusting, just get a beige CRT and be done with it. It will have better black levels and input lag than any LCD anyway.
I Hope retro look comes to PC gaming im tired of futuristic shapes and mayan patterns. Check desings from Dieter Rams to see what i mean.
WEll, Silverstone has you covered. They have a HTPC case that looks like a repurposed computer case from the late 80's, early 90's. (Except that it's black, not beige.)
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163257
is this linus secret accounT? that word looks like some sponsor linus would do
I have an IBM 300PL and like the design of the case and wanted to make a new system out of it, but might have to get rid of it
+MPG187 Why get rid of it? As long as it supports normal card height and you're good with a dremel, a drill, and a tap and die set, you can make it work.
"Mayan patterns"
Good way to put it.
It would be cool to build a modern pc whilst keeping a working floppy drive
Xx maTrix I have one. Well, it’s not modern it’s 5 years old and the white floppy drive looks shit out of place on a black Corsair case. But it does look funny though.
Krongfah Mahankalarp have you ever used the floppy drives ?
Xx maTrix I think windows 10 supports floppy drives.
Krongfah Mahankalarp oh cool does it matter what os you use to load up floppy drive drive files ?
I lost count of how many of this channel's videos I've watched this morning, & I wasn't planning on signing in for anything(as I've made the process for even obtaining my crazy password a pain in the interest of security[=the polar opposite of convenience]), but after enjoying this video so much, I felt I just HAD to subscribe & +1 this vid. Thanks so much for the content you guys put on here. You're living my dream & I haven't been this jealous since discovering Ronald Jenkees music playing videos!(He's also living one of my few dreams) Keep up the good work guys!!!
This sleeper goes to far, now people will want it because of its age
Anderson Bloemers I was thinking that if I saw this on a desk I would be impressed that they are keeping an 8-bit to 286 era pc around.
Anderson Bloemers ya but I see real benefits if you live in a city with a lot of crime no one would steal that
I would.
-Kordanor (born 82)
Meh, that PC is so last year.
Meh, that case is so last millennia.
LMAO
Just bought my old pc I had as a kid from 1999. Going to do a Ryzen Strix build! Cannot wait! Love sleeps, do more!
*When you film video in 2017 but you upload in 2018*
ive been wanting a sleeper for ages now! This was awesome! Let me know if you want sleeper servers or something... Got a room at work that hasent been touched since the 80's or something. PC towers the size of a small fridge.. The whole room gives me a creepy Stranger things vibe...
Old stuff, it's already 2018!
Good video guys! Happy new year, happy LTT birthday, and keep the great content coming! Love you all!
Still waiting for Margaret
Happy 2018 LMG!!
btw the binary in the intro says memes
Patrick Rumble thank you! I was looking for this comment!
ty
MVP
so creative lol
Thanks Captain!
2017??
thats like, SOOOOOOO last year.
Stainless ikr its 2018 blad
I posted this comment and kept scrolling and found this. Oh well.
Where's Margaret?
Make more compact case...
There was a case they used which was smaller than a ps4 chassis but it used air cooling iirc. ruclips.net/video/c3mwmZe55BA/видео.html sanırım şu vatandaştı o
Son IQ Bükücü İlber Ortayl
lol
ilber hoca lütfen
Son IQ Bükücü İlber Ortaylı apple II case, full of hackindosh?
"... Older than everyone in the office." HAHAHAHA
*dies a bit inside.
The fuck Linus, it's 1am, go celebrate the new year and take a break for once.
The case reminds me of the old IBM 5150 cases. Down in Texas there's a place called Computer Reset which is a warehouse full of old retro hardware. It may be worth a trip to find a cool case to re-purpose.
As fast as a pc can be in 2017 *posts in 2018*
Happy 2019
Happy 2020
Happy 2021
Happy 2022
Happy 2023
Happy 2024
Make more sleeper pc build from the history of famous old pc computers. Pls Linus Tech Tips !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only thing more challenging would be an old Amica or Apple case. Get any older, and we're talking main and mini frame PC's... (Think 6 foot tall server racks.)
That end montage was sick af
Dat rad is t h i c c
the only flaw I couldn't accept (if I had done this myself) is the double sided tape that's visible on the drive bay/LED panels
this build is incredible though! very well done :)
Who else can’t go to sleep because all they hear is fireworks!!!
TechTime i couldn't sleep 12hours ago because fireworks
TechTime *laughs in countryside*
You're right. All I hear is guns firing no fireworks tho
this was one of your best videos ive seen linus
Video uploaded in 2018, but says as fast as you can get in 2017 hmmm...........
No PC parts have come out yet
Missed the point m8
g3lk JR I think you did. And is that Bob Ross on your profile pic?
Illuminati : "Don't fucking move"
You understand that the video was made well in advance
