    Hi, and welcome to my new Guitar World instructional column. Over the next few months, I'll be demonstrating to you many of the different techniques I use for the riffs and solos that I play with my band, Falling in Reverse. Hopefully, these riffs will prove useful and inspire you to discover some unique musical ideas of your own.
    Some of my favorite musical sounds are those that consist of long, flowing arpeggios, whether they are present in rock, classical, electronic music or metal. The manner by which most guitar players execute lengthy arpeggiated lines is by using sweep picking, wherein the pick is dragged in a single motion across two or more adjacent strings using either a downstroke or an upstroke.

    I have to say, usually when I see "scene" guys like this or whatever in a band, the prejudice of them being complete trash does jump into my mind, but seeing this lesson has been a real eye opener. This dude is a great guitar player, those sweeps are clearly very well practice, some ofo the cleanest ive heard in GW vids, and he speaks and teaches very articulately. Nice one!

    Has anyone else noticed that the tab in the Guitar World Column does not match up with what he is actually doing? The tab in the mag leaves out a few notes. In the first measure the frets he hits on the e-string are 12 17 22 17 12 17 22 17 12 before sweeping back up the lower strings, but the tab shows 12 22 17 22 17 12. Anyway, the guy has great sweep picking technique. Not sure who dropped the ball on the tab.

      Just takes time. Some can do it in few months, others take years. Just sit with the metronome and keep practicing. I hear that playing sweeping on a medium pace is harder than playing it in a fast. I would agree on that.

    • @AbhiBass96
      @AbhiBass96 8 лет назад +1

      +sdadsf I learn the bass, so playing the sweeping technique or trying it, is gonna be twice has hard on the bass than the guitar. Currently my on-going technique is SlapnPop. Its hard but nothing I cant handle. Its fun. If you like what you do and is fun then everything is easy. Sure that just reciprocating to what I said, nevertheless. Keep practicing things will be easier in due time once mastered.

    Looked up his band after reading the debate going on below. Sounds satirical in the same way the eagles of death metal are. If it is then I like it and his ultratechnical style is a perfect match. If they are completely serious (which i doubt) then no, i dont care for it.

      He gets plenty of muting with his picking hand. He also uses the on/off technique, where he mutes the notes with his fretting hand by applying slight pressure to mute the previous note just as he's applying pressure to the next note.
