That kid learned the difference between "I don't like the band" and "that band sucks" that day.
For the first major arpeggio, you could avoid barring by using the Marty Friedman position. Play the 5th on the G string, skip the B and play the octave on the E string
Hey, so for everyone who's finished watching this video - you do NOT need to purchase his "Secrets of the Sweep" lesson if you've already watched this video, as the contents of the lesson is IDENTICAL to the contents of this video, including how he tries not to bar anything, how you should alternate pick everything in the beginning, etc.
Awesome tip. I find it works best if you still bar the top three, as they are easy to mute, but individually finger the 4th and 5th at the bottom. so you don't have to try and transition two bars
Yeah but he's doing it on a long scale instrument in a lower position. Try doing this fingering higher on the neck and you will see why it's pointless, especially on a standard scale 6 string.
A 2,1 approach is a much easier way of arranging arpeggios. There are only three shapes to learn in every scale position and they’re always the same in every key. It also addresses his point about notes not ringing together.
I was almost sure this was going to be for a major arpeggios only. I didn't realize anyone barred on minor arpeggios. It seems way harder to bar minor arpeggios.
Muting with your right hand solves the ringing out problem. And when you sweep, you can mute the previously struck string with the flesh of your finger without barring. Great lesson.
i used to play ska-punk. you know when you're barring badly very quickly when playing barre chords with distortion. rolling chords and strings is practically mandatory in that rhythmic style, so i just reused what i learned when learning how to sweep. i can't for the life of me figure out how to do it any other way. i always had more trouble with string-skipping picking patterns than sweeping, but i just end up 2-hand tapping those anyways just for simplicity's sake.
Trying to learn the arpeggios in Infant Annihilator - Ov Sacrament and Sincest really turned me off of barring during sweeps. I forced myself to unlearn barring and I am so much happier for it

Oh wow, it's nice to see someone also doing this. And doing it so well. This is what I've always done and was always told it was ''wrong''. But i can't roll worth a damn so I've always resorted to this. Just, it's nice to see I'm not alone :P
1.- I appreciate that he is looking for cleanness. 2.- Practicing regular arpeggios until you're good produces arpeggios just as clean, but the sound is slightly different. 3.- Several notes may sound together and it is still an arpeggio as long as they don't attack at the same time.
I love that bit at 7:39, it shows the limit of what Jason is able to do as he tries something overwhelmingly difficult. It's kinda rare to see him struggle with something but i mean who could play those arpeggios that way with this speed, it's just unnecessary... It shows that although he is going full technical mode he doesnt try to perfect something just for the sake of perfecting it as it wouldnt have any musical benefit for his playing. Remember guys in the end it's about the music not the technique!
in this case you are just checking what else will await you if you keep on playing ! I think you couldn't ask for better motivation than looking up what else is possible - I'd say you are just where you should be :)

String skipping is a nice solution to “the one exception” to the no barring rule. Both ways will have their benefits so practice either or both I guess 🤔
Huh. I never thought of this. I rely on barring for a lot of stuff, not just arpeggios. I'll have to go practice! I play "shred" style stuff mostly fingerstyle, so this will most definitely help with the cleanliness I lose by having my wrist arched off the strings.
15:22 "Add the nine in there, just for a second" Best unintentional music pun I've heard
So, is he playing without muting with his left hand at all? Only right hand muting?
@Corby Dinsburger The nine is the second note of the scale an octave higher. So he played the second for a second
@Corby Dinsburger The 9th degree in a scale is the same as the second an octave up but he meant a second as in time period
@Corby Dinsburger sure you were lol

@@jakebergen1837 god i love Stevie T. He's like a pineapple.
Jason is like a sweet orange. I can't get enough of both.
That first thing sounded like Speed Metal Symphony. I was waiting for it to keep going Becker style.
Rick Feith Sweep picking lessons from Becker would’ve been godlike. None of the modern guitarists could even come close to Becker.
Remember guys in the end it's about the music not the technique!
is he tuned at D Standard?
@@ranajoyshil this is correct. And hes a half step down from there when hes playing with all that remains in c# standard with a low f#
really informative, thanks JR!
Jason Richardson has become our generations Jason Becker. 🤘🏾
I already did it many years ago because of my short fingers & let me tell you, it works well!
Ah such a revelation, I had such problems with the rolling aspect on 5 and 6 string arpeggios and now I can really motor them
Don't even know what I'm doing here I play acoustic and still fighting with the pentatonic scale 🤣🤣🤣, Nice lesson tho
in this case you are just checking what else will await you if you keep on playing ! I think you couldn't ask for better motivation than looking up what else is possible - I'd say you are just where you should be :)
Just learn it slow as an exercise
When I first saw Jason cover all shall perish stuff and absolutely making Chris storey look funny, I knew he was the future. Who was Jason’s teacher ??
did music man made a custom majesty for you, Jason ? that Buckeye Burl shield if fucking awesome !!! Wish I could have one ! Also you're technique is amazing, thanks for sharing with us humans....
I do get the fact about intervals and barring not really arpeggios. Very good point.
Thank you Jason.
Damn you, Jason. Making this more difficult for me than it already is!
That's so clean it probably smells nice hahaha damn Jason, awesome approach. Definitely nicking that!
String skipping is a nice solution to “the one exception” to the no barring rule.
Both ways will have their benefits so practice either or both I guess 🤔
More Jason, please.
Blowing my mind bro - didn’t even know I was doing this
I needed this.
3:18 it all seemed a little too easy until he demonstrated it at a proper speed then its like wtf how do you do this
sweepicking
This is actually from his arpeggio lesson on his website.
It’s a shame that he don’t got his signature guitar yet...what u waiting for EBMM?! And you Jason...when you gonna ask what u deserve?!
Eric Valverde he is getting a signature. He even has a prototype for it. Check his insta
I think this video was recorded a long time ago, but he has a signature coming this year
Nic 6661 he literally already has it it’s at namm
@@lamborgatti-4783 its not out until may, but yea i guess youre right
Namm
Fig1 and 2 I’ve gotten the idea of now, and I’m building up the speed, but fig 3 I just can’t comprehend, I’d love a tab for it 😂😂
Huh. I never thought of this. I rely on barring for a lot of stuff, not just arpeggios. I'll have to go practice! I play "shred" style stuff mostly fingerstyle, so this will most definitely help with the cleanliness I lose by having my wrist arched off the strings.
it's 5% the right technique and the rest 95% dedication. Practicing 5 hour a day every day will get you perfect in no time.
Holy shit, this is pure magic
3:18 I started giggling when I heard that
