But I wrote it this way to remind me how he’s personally breaking it down, which is that his real intention is play the 7 chords, but he’s compromising the intervals for the sake of shred, and economy of motion. More to understand his approach and have a reference for them than it is to name it for everyone else.

this was great. i needed some new arpeggios, i've been smashing the same ones for a year now lol. i've been playing for 30 years, many of them professionally but i've only just gotten into them and i really enjoy the sound and freedom it adds to moving around the neck when improvising a solo
Hey do you know if he picks every note of the first shape? Or are there any pull offs or hammer ons? I’m beginning with sweep picking and arpeggios and I’m not sure if these are supposed to be played sweeped or just ultra fast picking
@@MiaQuacko So he's doing hammer ons and pull offs on all the strings that have 2 notes. For all the strings with one note they're being down picked or up picked. Down picked ascending and up picked descending. So with the pull offs you'll be starting the pull off with an up pick since you'll be descending when you pull of and all hammer ons ascending will be down picked. Hope that helps I'm currently practicing these too.
@@colecameron6347 i memorized 3 of the shapes. Turns out with these shapes you can play the arpeggio sequence near the end of 'No Boundaries' by Michael Angelo Batio.. Im still nowhere near as good as Rick Graham because of the sheer amount of fretboard knowledge he has and his understanding of theory.
Good stuff, I like this approach of going through all 7th chords comparatively, just like they taught us at uni. Only thing missing is augmented 7th arpeggios.
Thanks Rick! I've been struggling with 1 million different ways to play 7th arpeggios fast. Especially major 7th and dominant major 7th. It's hard to find a comfortable form to stick to. The added 9th really helps aid that and keeps everything flowing fast, comfortable and clean! I'll work out the other positions... I've recently entered into the world of super advanced sweeping pentatonics. I'd love to see more on that subject. Not many people can do it and there is not a lot of info on it. And Or, 7th arpegios with 5 note sequences. Trying to work it out is like cracking the devincii code. All the different shape options, economy picks, sweeps ect... Trying to find the most efficient way for the sake of speed. Awesome playing by the way! You are one of just a few out there that has inspired me to Be a better guitarist! The first time I seen your stuff it made me feel like I was not a guitarist and I had been shredding for 20 years! I've spent a lot of time howning my technic. Watching your videos on RUclips humbled me and helped me straighten out my guitar playing Thanks man! Rock it to the grave!!!
The dominant 7th has been my most favourite and oft played chord. Now that you've taught me the arpeggio, I am thrilled beyond imagination in its application in soloing. Thanks a million Rick. God bless you...I know He will!!

This would have been a top tier lesson if the guitar was in tune and wasn't too distorted. That doesn't mean this was a bad lesson though. Learned what I needed to but it could be a bit clearer tonally speaking
I know these videos are free, and I'm very appreciative of you posting them. Just a suggestion. Maybe play the arpeggios very slow a few times and only play it blazing fast once (To show what it can sound like fast). If you've ever learned anything off videos, you know it takes a few runs before you get what is being taught. Again, thank you for taking the time to record and post these, but they would be 10 times more effective for the student if you played them slow and steady a few times maybe even 4 or 5 times at a slow pace. Cheers!

Absolutely, and then again no. Dom 7 is an already altered shape from the c major scale. Any note you add beyond a seventh.in any of the.basic M m Dom Dim Aug is just to ad color...

Because substituting the root for the 9th on minor will give you a weird stretch. Nothing says you can't do it tho, just like that damned major 7th tapped arpeggio from Guthrie Govan.

With 14 notes in the loop for each arpeggio it makes playing them with metronome, a bit of a nightmare for me? Any advice, or is it just a case of getting your head around it.
