It's funny. When you get the 28mm gr, the most common issue you'd have is its too wide. With the 40mm, you might want it to be wider. So. It's cool that they did the opposite haha
Yes. It wasn’t recommended by Ricoh and then still no results. At least show us?!?! I have the GRiiiX and sometimes wish for a wider view while indoors.
@@Stickybutton i bought the gw4 for my gr3x, it works and all, gr3x even recognises the lens as the wide lens. however if you pixel peep then it isn't quite as sharp as the, it's good enough for everyday use.
@@crwhhx The III with TC = 28*1.5 = 42mm = IIIX The IIIx with WC = 40*0.75 = 30mm = III (not sure if the lenses are used in that way - only mathematically)
I have both as well. I agree the wide angle conversion lens is quite large and heavy but I have to say the IQ is much better than anticipated and I really the focal length. But it's a commitment to use for sure. The tele is definitely smaller and easier to live with. I'm using tape to cover the contacts, so I can choose my crop and get the full use of the sensor. But I have to say that I think the GR III/IIIx are best in their simplest form. Less is more.
@@airgreek on the adapter that the tele lens snaps into, there are electronic contacts. When you use the tele adapter with the IIIx, it crops in on the sensor for a 'more tele' focal length. By covering the contacts with a little tape, the camera does not crop in on the sensor and only uses the optical tele for a shorter tele but full sensor use.
Interesting that you make the comment about quality issues with using the lenses on the opposite camera (e.g. GRIIIX with wide angle) given you have both lenses. Why wouldn’t you try it? This has to be one of the burning questions from camera owners. None of us want to buy and carry 2 cameras.
After watching your video, I have decided to buy the telephoto lens for my GRIIIx. And I will pass on the wide angle, as I am quite comfortable with the 28mm equivalency on my GRIII. Your video was convincing. I really go a lot out of it in its brief nine minutes. Great video. And belated happy birthday.
Thank you for this video. It would be nice to have in the Ricoh GR IIIx the option to have the crop or not when we use the convertor. I don’t mind a little vignette, and DxÔs team could correct this
't is dat ik zo tevreden ben met mijn nikon spullen ..... Maar altijd leuk om de spullen van andere merken uitgelegd te zien .... En nog van harte met je verjaardag 🎂
Awesome video! I have the original APSC GR and use the 21mm equiv conversion lens for that one with great success. So I imagine these are pretty good as well. I have seen people mount the wide angle on the griix successfully and it looked fine, at least at Instagram size lol. The portraits with the teleconversion lens look awesome! Great work. That would be a neat little portrait camera setup.
I've wondered about this. Why buy the converter tube and lens when you can put the camera in crop mode? You can get 50mm or 71mm. It also cuts down on the file size. Maybe 15mp in 50mm crop mode? I guess less in 71mm crop mode? 8mp? Just a guess. I thought the conversion lens use also gives a smaller mp count.
Good video but I found it slightly frustrating that you had both cameras and both lenses and didn’t show us the wide on the iiix and vice versa. You mentioned that it’s not recommended but is possible so examples would have been nice for those of us who can’t afford all the options.
Dear Niels, I think i can live with it. So happy with my GR IIIX you were right is far easier than the the normal 28 mm. Do you think they will update that 28 mm camera any time soon? regards mate
I don’t have any official information about this. I feel like the GRIII is still a very good and competitive camera so I think the GRIV will not come any time soon 🤙
Thanks for the excellent video and this is my second viewing. Long time GR owner - about 15 years methinks. Tempted to add the wide converter to my GRIII as it’s easy to drop the 21mm lens and adaptor into my Moment fanny park I’m thinking of purchasing - for very light travel leaving my X-Pro2 kit at home. One question - does raw metadata include the kit information? Then of course I need to discover or Lightroom or DxO recognize this! Thanks again.
It seems to me that you buy this camera for its size. When you want to use a converter then it's better to use or buy a camera with interchangeable lenses.
I have the GR III and I really wish I could try the tele converter for portraits… Cropping in on the sensor does not give the same field of view… I am on a mission to find someone with the GR III and tele converter combination
I have GRIII and GA-1 and would like to know if the photo quality with GT-2. Would GRIII be in crop mode when attaching GT-2 and hence what focal length it would be? thx
I was wondering: would you do a professional wedding with only the Ricoh GR iii, Ricoh GR IIIx and the two add-in lens ? Would you feel confident ? Thank you
I think a professional wedding photographers in this day and age should have dual card slot camera’s, so no… In terms of image quality and lens variety, absolutely!
@@NielsdeKemp so, because of the sigle card slot, you would not take the risk. Interesting. I have a wedding in a month and I want to give it a try. Never had any card issue in the past. Want to try wedding photography with compact and powerful camera
Well, your question was: would I feel confident. I’ve shot weddings and I would always want that redundancy of writing to two cards. That’s how I feel about capturing something that’s as important as a wedding. Of course Leica shooters could capture amazing images at weddings, same as with every other brand because it is the photographer that makes the photos, not the camera. If you ask me, I would feel more confident with some redundancy when it comes to shooting weddings. But as I said, image quality and lens variety is definitely sufficient 🙏
Quick question for you: Can you put GT-2 on GA-1 adapter? In other words, can you use GT2 on GR III? If so, what kind of effective focal length it gives on GR III? Thanks.
The aperture on telephoto lens will also need to times the number for depth of field effect, right? So the 2.8 will be a smaller aperture lens on telephoto converter.
do they crop? so where is the point getting to smaller than mft and less than 12mpx? and they double the weight, all at the front, and also cost a fortune
In my opinion the cost of the adopter and the teleconversion lenses too higher price to pay sometimes almost 50% of the price of the camera. RICOH GR is a street camera and it should be used for simple street photography not add unnecessary accessories.
Thank you very much for the video. What happens if the TeleConverter 1.5 is combined with the GR III (28mm)? Will it be 42mm equivalent? Thanks in advance.
i find it absoultely baffling that they would make a dedicated wide angle converter for the wide angle GR3 and a teleconverter for the already tele gr3x.... like it makes WAY more sense in my head to have the wide angle converter for the 3x and tele converter for the 3, but i guess if they did that you wouldn't need to buy both. smh
