Thanks for uploading this. I hope both missions come out for both consoles, I have no idea why they decided to keep missions from us when the game is so short on its own.
Lore reason for not using the sword: Raiden's blade is charged from cyborg electrolytes and there are no cyborgs, making his blade kind of useless. Gameplay reason for not using the sword: MGSV is a stealth game, not a hack-and-slash game.
Big Boss: "I've got this watermelon with a badge on it, there are robot dudes down there that have stolen everyone's identity, and I've got this crazy robot dude in my Helicopter. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON."
+SgtAurora not sure if this came out on console or not, but it looks like hes using a controller to me. probably doesn't use it often, which is why his aiming isn't that great.
I love this so much for so many reasons. Raiden looks absolutely incredible in the Fox Engine and that entrance with superhero landing is amazing. A "dark distant future" really puts things into perspective coming from a Big Boss game. He obviously rejects the blade because he's going against Snatchers, not Cyborgs. The way Big Boss seems to acknowledge Raiden as an equal legend which at this point of his life he 100% is. And of course the music of MGR being used for the Caution and Alert enemy phases. As someone else said, Kojima actually showing some appreciation towards that game by using that version of Raiden. Also this being the second time we see him time traveling to the past, probably as a Terminator reference, the first time in MGS3 just for comical hijinks, but this time it's Serious Business and it's awesome, even the loading text talking about Time Paradoxes. Just simply seeing the words Metal Gear Rising Revengeance in a Kojima MGS game. Jst a big love letter in my opinion, and one that is very much welcome
This skin really nails home the fact that Raiden is also a really big guy. Also, imagine a Metal Gear with both Phantom Pain and Rising: Revengeance gameplay mechanics (maybe giving some of TPP's to R:R on the way) with today's graphics... The world is not ready.
Wouldn't be the first time Big Boss encountered some weird shit. Also to him this would sound straight out of a Terminator movie assuming they have come out by this point. He met a talking cat such as Trenya during Peacewalker and fought giant Monsters too.
I've come back to this after finishing MGR, after putting it off for so long. Let me tell you.......I did myself a grave disservice not getting to it sooner. That game is a banger from start to finish.
Idk why people keep saying they would have to make a new engine for him to be able to use his sword. They would NOT have to make a new Engine just new animations.
Chris Fellerman metal gear rising was not made with the fox engin.... at the time rising was announced the fox engin probably didnt exist it was just metal gear solid 4 with raiden and some sword moves...
The main reason Raiden refuses his sword is because when he uses his sword, especially blade mode, it uses up his fuel cells which run on the electrolytes stored in the spines of cyborgs and UGs. Here, this is in the 1980s, where cyborgs of his kind(or any cyborgs at all) didn't exist yet, and no power could be obtained through taking them, especially not from humans or aliens. So, in order to keep himself from running out of energy and put him out of commission, he chose the rifle, which will not burn up any needed fuel that his sword would siphon him for.
Damn, all the nods to Snatcher in this mission make me so happy. Fantastic game by Kojima and Konami when they were still cool. ... We still need a remake though.
Well, its offical: SNATCHER takes place in the same universe as MGS (Im assuming the Snatchers encountered in this mission are prototypes deployed by the Soviets). Heck, even the PC 8808 version of Creeping Silence plays at 5:12 when Raiden scans the first SNATCHER. Then again, this is a DLC Mission from what I can tell and probably not canon (Raiden is the player character in this mission which takes place in the 70s/80s, so thats a big hint.)
fckcom not dlc a bonus mission IN game; a game that really needs the replayability that being able to run around the base and cut shit up willy nilly would have given it soem of
Be more interesting finding a reason why he didnt use his sword Kaz: we cant risk having your blade contaminated when you get back here so for this mission you gotta use range weapons.
In a game with deranged magnetic morons, Brazilian samurais, Nanomachines (,son) and a child diddler war criminal with oversized scissors, anything is possible. Even time travel.
Oh of course, I'm not making a complain about the gameplay. It just seemed weird and off to me personally. It would have been nice for melee and such to have options and such.
jubeidamasta They've had sword play in MGS before. It wouldn't have changed anything unless they went full MGR when it came to swordplay. They could have brought it back to MGS 2 Raiden's sword attacks with more finesse.
From Big Boss perspective. Raiden is basically the Terminator. A war machine from the future back in time to stop a major threat. Assuming he still keeps up to date with movies at this point like Para Medic.
Boss: Here. Take your sword.
Raiden: Sorry. Can't break the game just yet.

These guys aren't cyborgs that would trade swords for guns and just charge at you and they don't have MCFC packages in their bodies either. You wouldn't be able to go into Blade Mode (no fuel cell energy), stealth kills would be useless, and you can't go around cutting these guys up anyhow.
In summary, the gun was used because the gameplay called for it. This isn't a Rising game, it's a Solid one. In Solid games, guns are the optimal choice.
Thank you for being the only intelligent person in the comments
He got it remade.
Eric Dowe Unless you're playing with the DLC version of Raiden from MGS4 for online. In which case a sword is still the optimal choice because Raiden can pretty much block any bullets coming his way and still slash through anything he wants.
I salute you.
God bless you
raiden is one of my favourite character in MGS
Lol he is definition of badass
DarkJaegerZaky He is not gay, he has a wife
DarkJaegerZaky Yes he is so awesome
You want know why people hate him so much? Cause the real metal gear is dying. Sry. Not against you. It's nothing about be gay or something like that," I'm playing a Stealth game?), do you want put some kamehameha, ninja gaiden or goku or maybe chuck norris killing everyone with a finger? Is a stealth game not a hack n slash, What could happen if we put some dragons flying in Cold War game?

It's crazy to think that Rising was only one year old at this time. Now MGSV TPP will be turning 7 years old in September. Life really goes quickly!
And Rising next year will have its 10 year anniversary, time flies fast

Couldn't that be a slight reference to MGS4? At the beginning he hides next to watermelons.
Logan Alvarado Could be a Fruit Ninja reference.
Wether he's using a blade or a gun, it is really lovely to have Raiden as a playable Character.
Raiden was like:
"I've had enough parrying, time to cause some real damage."
love the whole Snatcher reference to this, the music as well. Makes me want to buy it just for this mission

Wow, they couldn't even re-voice Raiden, let alone put him in the credits, haha. Brilliant.
AngryMetalGamer thats because his voice is David Hayter if you know what i mean
Got it memorized?
Konami is such a lazy bunch, they decided to just re-adjust all of Kiefer's lines with a wierd "demonic" sound.
If you think about it, this is the only time we ever saw 3 main characters on a single scene, Raiden, Big Boss and probably venom snake
You mean protagonists? Because i must remind you that Snake, Raiden, Ocelot and solidus were in the same VR room
I love Riden so much i hope they made another metal gear game with him he is the badass character in the history of gaming i ever seen
Well as of now, this has aged like milk
Well...
This was amazing
this game never ages even after 8 years, hot damn
Damn, as much as I love the fourth wall breaking in both missions, as much as I love Ground Zeroes and even though I own the Playstation version, I watched this whole video screaming in my head, "OH HOW AWESOME THE CUTTING ENGINE WOULD BE COMBINED WITH THE FOX ENGINE!" Now that Ground Zeroes is out, I wonder if those original videos of "Metal Gear Solid: Rising" was done with a prototype of the Fox Engine? The graphics look sort of similar.
7 year reply, but those WERE done on a prototype fox engine. rising was going to be the first fox engine game then they chucked it after it was too demanding
@@IceyyCold Damn it, it would have been so sick to see the game with that amazing engine, but they game still looked great in the end product
@@illusion9289 It would have been very different, the original version had a heavier emphasis on physics and looked much slower, Konami came to an agreement with Platinum because they could do action games well at 60fps on consoles of the time
Thanks for uploading this. I hope both missions come out for both consoles, I have no idea why they decided to keep missions from us when the game is so short on its own.

"A watermelon from another world, a dark, distant future"
18:21 Was that George?
It always got me when Miller talks about Raiden being from a dark future. Turns out we're living one.
I wish this mission actually had Quinton Flynn voicing Raiden instead of just Big Boss with a voice modulator
Everyone's wondering why the hell Raiden didn't take his sword and I'm just over here remembering that whole game where he didn't even touch a sword.
MGS2? He most definitely uses a sword in that one.
@@sealogic4552 at the time my mgs knowledge was very limited my bad lol
Raiden with the rifle has the same energy as the soldier with the watermelon
Lore reason for not using the sword: Raiden's blade is charged from cyborg electrolytes and there are no cyborgs, making his blade kind of useless.
Gameplay reason for not using the sword: MGSV is a stealth game, not a hack-and-slash game.
Big Boss: "I've got this watermelon with a badge on it, there are robot dudes down there that have stolen everyone's identity, and I've got this crazy robot dude in my Helicopter. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON."
It blue balled me the hardest when Raiden turned down the sword and didn’t temporarily turn MGS5:GZ into a hack and slasher
Love the cinematographic feeling of Metal Gear Solid games :)
4:26 Raiden sounded like a demon there you heard the way he said "speak"
I mean, he's kind of a half robot
Years later, still epic.

No.
I will come back to this if something of raiden is coming on.
And we all know what im going to say
Yes if you finish MGSV:TPP with all mission rank S. Then you can develop raiden's skin and it has his main speed.
@@KS-px9wb yeah, but it’s the exact same as the PS1 raiden skin im pretty sure

For some reason, I think Raiden looked better in MGR:R.
He looks a smidge like an action figure to me here.
Because the model is using Snake's skeleton.
He looks just as buff here than he does in Rising.
The model used in MGS just needs a bit more polish. The foundation is really good tho.
*Big Boss offers Raiden a sword
Raiden: then the Mission will end too quickly
am i the only one pissed at this guy's poor stealth?
Nope it hurt me alot to see him not use. stealth
Sword... :,(
Adog 23 yeah,i would love to play raiden with the sword in FOX engine ;-;
+SgtAurora not sure if this came out on console or not, but it looks like hes using a controller to me. probably doesn't use it often, which is why his aiming isn't that great.
What's wrong with going all out lol.
The World is not Ready For Metal Raiden VI: Sneaky Sussy Ninjas

the engine for mgs5 (the fox engine) was actually meant to be used for rising
"This whole thing was like a bad dream".
A nightmare you can't wake up from, perhaps?
Fun fact:You can hear the hammerhead boss music when Raiden escapes. I think it's a nice touch.
raiden without a sword? pretty much a reskined snake
Fluttershy .Windwing he can run faster i think
true
Pretty much MGS2 =P
It IS a reskin. The bonus is more speed.
So raiden then?
i like how when snake was told the enemies were body snatchers he just went “…i’m too old for this shit”
I also like how casually he takes the news of having a cyborg from the future on their side and never questions it
Wouldn't be the first time Big Boss encountered some weird shit. Also to him this would sound straight out of a Terminator movie assuming they have come out by this point.
He met a talking cat such as Trenya during Peacewalker and fought giant Monsters too.
You can tell Raiden was DEFINITELY not supposed to be in MGS:V XD
I've come back to this after finishing MGR, after putting it off for so long. Let me tell you.......I did myself a grave disservice not getting to it sooner. That game is a banger from start to finish.
Wow, I really like the communication between the enemies, it´s athomspheric and makes them seem inteligent.
Now i want a MGR:R sequel even more
"Snatcher" is the Kojima's game circa 1988. Haven't played it, but his point and click quests are fkn goooood.

Metal Gear Rising 2 - Snackers returns is so good man.
Idk why people keep saying they would have to make a new engine for him to be able to use his sword. They would NOT have to make a new Engine just new animations.
Exactly. MGR was originally designed on the FOX engine and it looked so awesome.
Chris Fellerman metal gear rising was not made with the fox engin.... at the time rising was announced the fox engin probably didnt exist
it was just metal gear solid 4 with raiden and some sword moves...
Fun fact: The Alert Theme is "Return to Ashes", the battle theme for Denver's police cyborgs in MGR
That's a cool Raiden skin
omg Raiden is a pleasure to see you again! You do not know how much I love you! I missed you after playing Metal gear revengeance
3:38 when you gotta sneak in that watermark so no one can use that pic
Damn that’s kind of annoying
I just played it myself and got took a screenshot or you could just grab one from the internet
Sorry but Raiden isn't Raiden without his sword
Raiden is in mgs 2 mode.....FUCK
Justgamer64 Erm he was in an entire game without a sword. If anything the raiden they reinvented isnt really the original raiden.
+MasterXenopunk If what you meant is MGS 2, then you're wrong, he did received a HF sword near the end, and also able to use it.
Raiden didnt take his sword because his sword only absorbs energy from cyborg electrolytes not these things
Also, different engine.
Shhhh....... there might be SNATCHERs around
Read 0:29 : It clearly states that this is an alternate universe
Raiden ain't got shit on Random Hajile.
***** Where's my Random Hajile DLC Konami!?!?
WHY DID HE REFUSE THE HF BLADE?!
because kojima production have literally no idea how to do an action game.
LITERALLY.
that's why they let Platinum Gods do MGR.
Why didn't they partner up again then?!
Gray Fox just for a dlc, that would take too much time money and effort.
fckcom
not dlc a bonus mission IN game; a game that really needs the replayability that being able to run around the base and cut shit up willy nilly would have given it soem of
Maioly its like what? an hour. i wouldnt hire a company to make a game that lasts for an hour.
Raiden for real said: “Doktor, turn off my gun usage inhibitors”
2:18
"Will this do?"
" *YES* "
Well...i bet im not the only one who was hoping for some rising revengeance action.
Be more interesting finding a reason why he didnt use his sword Kaz: we cant risk having your blade contaminated when you get back here so for this mission you gotta use range weapons.
actually
Sergio Ramirez actually what?
AKSHUALLY
I didn't know cyborg ninjas could time travel
Read the prelude that starts before the actual gameplay.
they can, they will, they have done it ...and we're doooooomed ..... btw where is John Connor ?
NANO MACHINES SON!!!!
In a game with deranged magnetic morons, Brazilian samurais, Nanomachines (,son) and a child diddler war criminal with oversized scissors, anything is possible. Even time travel.
I can't be the only one slightly annoyed that we didn't get Raiden's sword for this mission or any sort of bladed weapon?
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I was like "why did he not take his sword." Guess the mission would be too easy if he had his Mgr game play.
Raiden wanted a challenge?
Because that would have involved changing the gameplay completely....
Oh of course, I'm not making a complain about the gameplay. It just seemed weird and off to me personally. It would have been nice for melee and such to have options and such.
jubeidamasta
They've had sword play in MGS before. It wouldn't have changed anything unless they went full MGR when it came to swordplay. They could have brought it back to MGS 2 Raiden's sword attacks with more finesse.
Salute Kojima for adding Revengeance Raiden!
That run animation is weird, like they didn't use a Ninja Run animation and just fast forwarded BB's run.
I have to say that it was awesome to play as Raiden in MGS5 Ground Zeroes and i hope he'll be playable in the Phantom Pain.
Rip
Sorry, man.
@@Snakekiller9119 he is playable in phantom pain what are you talking about lol

From Big Boss perspective. Raiden is basically the Terminator.
A war machine from the future back in time to stop a major threat. Assuming he still keeps up to date with movies at this point like Para Medic.
Snake: here's your sword
Raiden: not this time, let's give them a chance I don't feel like playing on easy mode
