Twister and Dante's Peak will forever be my favorite two disaster movies. I remember being lucky enough to see this in the theater, it was absolutely incredible. I still remember people in there screaming as if they were on a rollercoaster. The lighting and that sound on a theatrical level were just insane. RIP Bill Paxton (Bill) and Phillip Seymore Hoffman (Dusty). One of the nice things about it is the story itself. Jo: She has a lifelong obsession with observing and truly "seeing" the beast that killed her father. The tornados growl and roar as if they are a literal monster. After surviving the F-5 and witnessing the core itself, the storm dissipates, the sky becomes blue, and she is finally at peace as she tells her crew, "I think I've seen enough". Bill: Finds himself in a storm torn between two lives. A new safe and stable job with a good woman, or acceptance and thrill among his old friends. Bill and Jo: An unresolved storm between them. Only in the end of the film does everything resolve once the storm passes.
Both films are what i'd call "character first" disaster films. Other disaster films focus more on the spectacle, these are more about the people going through it.
Twister was a great movie, especially because of the cast. The chemistry of Hunt and Paxton is perfect, and the storm chaser crew really feel like a family.
I think the team really humanizes the movie. MANY disaster movies really want you to forget about humanity, otherwise what you're watching would be VERY dark. Twister leans into the humanity though. The "breakfast at Aunt Meg's" scene is one of my favorite scenes ever. It accomplishes a lot in one scene. Introduces most of the characters, introduces the love drama, and makes you care about Aunt Meg (which is important for later in the movie). And the way they get this information to us is via fun banter between good friends.
Twister is what gave me the inspiration to become a meteorologist. Two years ago I got to be a part of a professional research team funded by the NSF. We hit a supercell every single day and three tornados. I think my favorite part was the fact a set designer (i think that's their official title?) joined us and took photos as well as asked questions, and the drone in the sequel is very clearly based off of the fixed win we used to obtain measurements. I'll always have a special place in my heart for this film for helping me decide what i wanted to do with my life.
I didn't think anything would equal the cinematic experience of Jurassic Park, but it just so happened that the weekend Twister came out, we had a fluke power outage at our house and my parents decided that we'd get out and go see the last showing of Twister for the night. One of my best memories is getting to watch Twister with my parents on the big-screen.
Same! We took my mother (who was scared shitless of tornadoes having been in one) to see it....She said it was the closest she ever got to the terror of the real thing. (She did like it --or so she told us kids!)
I think the cast makes Twister; elevates it to just the right levels. Doesn't hurt that i love seeing Bill Paxton and Cary Elwes in movies, especially when they get leading roles.
The original Twister made that connection - Helen Hunt's character looked at tornados like a living entity, taking her father & then coming for her. It was really eerie when she looked up into one, with that animalistic noise...😮
I’ve always wanted you to explore Twister. I grew up in Oklahoma and was in love with the film as a kid because it was so surreal to see such a large scale film shot where I lived. I was so used to seeing every film shot in either LA or New York City, so to actually recognize some of those 2-laned farm roads and lakes I’d fish with my dad in a major studio blockbuster was amazing at the time. Now, being a filmmaker in Oklahoma and being able to work on Twisters as a crewmember in 2023 has kind of made my journey come full circle. For now. The film industry in Oklahoma just started booming within the last few years, with major films, like Killers of the Flower moon, Tulsa King, an upcoming Ronald Reagan biopic, and definitely Twisters. The 96 Twister was a huge part to that. I think you’ll be suprised that the new one has a lot of practical effects and was mostly shot on location much like the 96 film. The budget mostly has to do with COVID delays and the writer’s strike pushing dates back.

@@GoodBadFlicks I meant to fill you in on the movie earlier! Overall, it's fine. I prefer the pacing and the thrills of the 96 film because I felt this new one had a lot of slow moments that had the audience feeling a bit restless, whereas Jan De Bant always knew how to keep the energy going. Most people seemed to like it though. On the conversation of the effects, the CGI tornadoes look really, really good. For proof, they mixed in footage of real storms shot by the film crew and seamlessly mixed it with CGI tornadoes, and you cant tell what's real or fake. I mean, you could probably infer when it's fake , but the point is it looks really good. There aren't many practical effects though, but this script doesn't call for many practical action scenes either way. There's no driving through a house, flying tractors, dodging semi trucks, etc. The action this time around is a lot more grounded. The one clearly CGI moment that would've been practical in the 96 film involved a water tower falling over. I know for a fact Jan De Bant would've knocked over a real water tower. One moment that I knew was practical involved Glen Powell's Dodge Ram getting turned into a missle...I know because this is a stunt I saw get shot in person, and it looks real in the final film. To make up for CGI, the movie is entirely shot on location with no green screens and you can tell. The damage and aftermath scenes are all very practical. Much like Wakita in the 96 film, they destroyed actual city blocks and had the actors sift through actual rubble, and you can tell that it's all physical. It would've been easy and tempting to just use a soundstage for that stuff and I commend the filmmakers for doing it on location. Honestly, I think the fact that it's all shot on location is what I appreciate most; it doesn't look like a soundstage or a green screen, it looks like they went out and shot a movie. In that regard, I think you'll appreciate some of it.
A funny thing about Twister was that I didn't see it on opening weekend, but I saw The Craft that day. It was shown side by side with the theater showing Twister. Naturally, the sounds of the twisters vibrated though the walls and made the magic spell climax of The Craft more exciting.
I had a similar experience watching The Truth About Cats and Dogs next door to Twister. The noise didn’t really intensify that experience. But I loved all three movie. What a busy summer that was! I miss being a teenager.
Twister is probably responsible for why i love disaster movies and by extension, giant monster movies. i saw that movie when i was 7 years old and its still my favorite genre as well as being one of my favorite movies
Twisters is double because it’s 30 years later and inflation also is a beeyotch. Its also not a reboot but a sequel. Reviews have been great. It’s a crowd pleaser and actually good. Very entertaining and likable main cast.
RIP to Bill Paxton and Phillip Seymour Hoffman plus the victims from natural disasters even tornadoes. In 1996, I saw that before or after Independence Day, when I saw this movie it blows me away even enjoying the intense scenes even though the dialogue wasn’t the strongest parts for the characters but I still enjoyed it for over 25 years. I can’t wait for the upcoming Twisters. The film that is.
I was so excited for this film when I saw the trailer in the theater. Saw it opening weekend, and wasn't disappointed. The entire audience gasped, jumped, and went on the wild ride together. It was amazing.
Seeing this in 96 is still one of my favourite ever cinema experiences; loved it from start to finish and the entire audience was 100% on board for the ride. 90s blockbusters were really something special.
I saw this movie 5x in the theater when it was released and I was and am obsessed. It's completely quotable and the perfect mix of camp and fun effects. The perfect summer popcorn flick. Additionally, people have recreated the iconic red pick-up and it has an entire social media presence, called the extreme. The love of storm chasers for Bill Paxton was _well_ loved by the storm chaser community and the send off was amazing. No way they don't completely _RUIN_ the sequel-that-isn't-a-sequel, Twisters. Edit: The Pepsi logo prob wasn't _intentional_ since with doppler radar, green is reflection off rain towards the radar and red is moving away from it....and the tornado is spinning ;)
It's amazing that this film even exists all because Industrial Light And Magic spent ten weeks to create two seconds of test footage that never even showed up in the finished product.
Habib (one of the guys who did the test footage) said the clip was more like 10 seconds or so but they only used that snipped for the trailer. The full clip is lost somewhere and the general public has never seen the full version.

This film is hands down one of my all time favorite childhood movies. Which is why it’s one I still watch till this day. I almost became a Storm Chaser because of Twister.
Twister was playing in the theater next to where I was watching The Truth About Cats and Dogs. (A rom com.) Y’all, it was SO LOUD. I almost wanted my money back. But when I then saw Twister, I was pleased. It actually helped with my extreme fear of tornadoes . . . for a little while.

So let me get this straight, you have lived on this earth in the 21st century and have not seen pinnacle disaster movies of the 1990s. I mean this is a fairly recent film in a historical sense.
Twister is a Fantastic movie. One of my all-time favorites. Fantastic cast. Spectacular soundtrack. Great script. Edited and directed almost perfectly. 9/10 from me.

I don't know if anybody has said this, but that radar most likely wasn't purposely making a Pepsi logo. The red and green is a velocity reading with the two colors representing winds that are blowing towards and away from the radar site. Whenever you have tight couplings of bright green next to bright red (there's usually gray between the two as the wind transitions) that's a strong indication of rotation. When you see a tornado warning that says "radar indicated", the velocity signature is usually one of the major factors in that determination.

I love this movie, such a fun film at the time. Co-written by Anne-Marie Martin, she was also the co-star of the 80's classic series Sledge Hammer! That show is probably deserving of a look as a GoodBadShow.
Those effects and that sound design was really effective in a theater. Hurricanes and Tornados are a reality where I live so these things are very real things to fear.

Cecil, you have no idea how much this movie means to me, and how integral it was to me growing up. This movie has one of the best scores of original and licensed music ever. It's not-so-subtly a car movie, with blatant Dodge product placement that I love. The acting is superb, with a ton of quotable lines and likable characters. The action and CG still holds up to this day. It is easily one of my top 10 movies of all time, and I felt like nobody gave it the love it deserved. Paxton and "Dusty" Hoffman have no idea what they meant to me, and the support role that movie played during my parents messy divorce at a young age.
We visited Wakita after filming was over and talked to some locals. We learned a few things: * Wakita was picked because so many buildings in downtown had been condemned and needed to be torn down but the down didn't have the budget to do that. Also, Wakita is on the end of a road, nothing else is past it so the town was easy to seal off during filming. * The aunt's house that was destroyed was lifted up by two cranes and dropped. Then carpenters went in and made it structurally sound so it wouldn't collapse. * To damage the trees in town, they brought in logging equipment from the Northwest, huge machines that would pinch the trees and then they would drive in a circle, twisting the trees until they snapped. Every tree that was destroyed was replaced with newer trees by the studio. * Also, that 'possible Pepsi logo' in the radar, is pretty accurate regarding wind sheer and wind speeds when tornadoes form.
I've long maintained that the best visual effects are a combination of practical and CGI: the practical forms the basis, with the CGI just animating or polishing the practical effects.
I would have liked to see DeBont's Godzilla. It's baffling where all the money goes for Hollywood films, and more so after it was revealed Godzilla Minus One cost $10 million in US dollars in 2023, and it's (in my opinion) the best Godzilla movie ever made. The tornado in The Wizard of Oz is still a fantastic effect.
CG is incredibly expensive due to the time investment for it and the computing power necessary. It's not a simple or easy process, and the more work done in CG the higher the cost.
You means 300M today. Big studios actually wasting money to pay executive, producer rather than paying CGI artist and production crew...... I remember I watch a channel where that person said today movie production is different from old movie the process for VFX CGI today were done right before principal photography happened and then if studios dissatisfied with test screen feedback, they will reshoot that movie and forcing CGI artist redo from scratch and we got disaster like Justice League (2017) and that movie is the first movie that failed in every aspect but Hollywood never learn and since then every flop movie with heavy CGI that looks like ps3 games are normalise since 2019...... Meanwhile Godzilla Minus One using old style of production where they make sure the script is great and then doing principal photography after that doing VFX and locked that movie for mass distribution. We can see how many mcu movie in phase 4 and phase 5 suffers with rewrote script, most of them are more than 20 rewriten and at the time of rewrite, CGI team were told to do Pre-Vis I did follow what snyder said when he doing Justice League snyder's cut, he said after script was greenlit, CGI team doing Pre-Vis. Someone even post leaked Pre-Vis to hype that cut in 2020. Then while he shooting, CGI artist doing VFX simultaneously and they need to match every scene with principal photography. After finished Principal photography, they need to do editing all scene in one movie and doing ADR. After that the movie will be locked and VFX team need to polished every scene before distribution happened 2 weeks in March 2021
I saw the new film. I believe the 200 million is all visually there. Some of the disaster looked grand and massive. Sure it most likely is CG but the debris looked scale looked great! Film wise, it’s quite decent and my only real praise is Glenn Powel who always steals the scene. Edit: it was also shot on 35 mm and the story writer is Joseph Kosinski who I think is severely underrated as a director. He had the praise he deserved with Top Gun Maverick but his previous films: Tron: Legacy, Oblivion and Only the Brave were very entertaining. It only made sense this new one is doing as well because of Kosinski’s constant desire to just make entertainment.
It seems this is one of the rare legacy/late sequels that is actually good. I'm glad, if they are going to continue to make these at least make them good!

1996 was the year I moved to Oklahoma. I was ten years old when Twister first released literally a week later and it was such a huge hit. It made me instantly interested in meteorology. It never went anywhere since I such at math but it's still fascinating.
I love twister, the sequel was just as good. Thank you for doing this video Cecil! It brought me to tears for making such an amazing video on one of my all time favourite movies.
The sequel was a lot better than I expected, was surprised and really enjoyed it. They did the original justice with constant callbacks and nostalgia while taking a new spin on the story for the new generation. Great film.
I was OBSESSED with this movie as a kid. I'm from the Midwest, and all throughout my childhood I had a full-blown phobia of tornados. If there was even a chance of showers I'd be glued to The Weather Channel, my stomach in knots, praying it wouldn't turn into a thunderstorm. Paradoxically, I was also fascinated by tornados, and I found this movie to be weirdly soothing for some reason I still can't explain.

I saw Twister and Independence Day back-to-back in a drive-in theater, and it was a blast! It may be the most memorable way that I could have seen either movie.
One of my favorite memories was taking my date to see Twister on the big screen in 2017, that movie holds up so well visually to this day and the sound design was incredible in a cinema environment. 🌪️
So far, this is your masterpiece "Exploring" video. This is a special film for many early 90s kids. Saw this at a theater on opening day with my big Sis. She said if I behaved, we would watch Eraser next weekend.

They definitely add to my interest in wanting to get involved in filmmaking, myself! I'll never forget watching this as a kid at home. That horrifying intro, the insane effects, the excitement of surviving (vicariously) one of the most destructive natural forces. Nothing else compares. While I do hope the new one isn't a failure, it's standing in the shadow of a giant. ...And now I want to watch the film again after probably 20 whole years if not longer.
The 1990s was certainly a peak in cinema, The tech was just in the right place that the right director could get awesome practical and awesome CGI. And at the same time studios still had some backbone so they took risks rather than trying to crank out big budget established IP sequels and cinematic universes. I could be wrong but I just feel like movies like Twister, ID4, The Matrix, Fifth Element. Could never be made today due to lack of connection to an already marketable IP.
Jami Gertz's character is my favorite in this movie! I love how she knew about as much as I did going into it. Just a perfect match! Great video and we have a local Drive-in that's doing a double feature for Twister / Twisters when it releases. Last year, they did Wizard of Oz/ Twister double feature that was Awesome!!! That is one of the best ways to see Twister for me, because it reminds me of the 1st time i saw it, when it was released: at the drive-in!
Twister is a good film and gain my interest in these destructive forces of nature. One of the best special effects of making the tornadoes feel real and almost characters are their own.

Twister is basically a slasher film. The dang tornadoes stalk the cast throughout and even sneak up and jump scare them.
The main thing that bothered me as a kid was the tornados always dissipated when they were done messing with the main cast.

I prefer the pacing and the thrills of the 96 film because I felt this new one had a lot of slow moments that had the audience feeling a bit restless, whereas Jan De Bant always knew how to keep the energy going. Most people seemed to like it though.
On the conversation of the effects, the CGI tornadoes look really, really good. For proof, they mixed in footage of real storms shot by the film crew and seamlessly mixed it with CGI tornadoes, and you cant tell what's real or fake. I mean, you could probably infer when it's fake , but the point is it looks really good. There aren't many practical effects though, but this script doesn't call for many practical action scenes either way. There's no driving through a house, flying tractors, dodging semi trucks, etc. The action this time around is a lot more grounded. The one clearly CGI moment that would've been practical in the 96 film involved a water tower falling over. I know for a fact Jan De Bant would've knocked over a real water tower. One moment that I knew was practical involved Glen Powell's Dodge Ram getting turned into a missle...I know because this is a stunt I saw get shot in person, and it looks real in the final film.
To make up for CGI, the movie is entirely shot on location with no green screens and you can tell. The damage and aftermath scenes are all very practical. Much like Wakita in the 96 film, they destroyed actual city blocks and had the actors sift through actual rubble, and you can tell that it's all physical. It would've been easy and tempting to just use a soundstage for that stuff and I commend the filmmakers for doing it on location. Honestly, I think the fact that it's all shot on location is what I appreciate most; it doesn't look like a soundstage or a green screen, it looks like they went out and shot a movie. In that regard, I think you'll appreciate some of it.
A childhood favorite, right up against Cameron’s Titanic. “A month without a GoodBadFlicks Exploring video is a month wasted.”

A funny thing about Twister was that I didn't see it on opening weekend, but I saw The Craft that day. It was shown side by side with the theater showing Twister. Naturally, the sounds of the twisters vibrated though the walls and made the magic spell climax of The Craft more exciting.

I had a similar experience watching The Truth About Cats and Dogs next door to Twister. The noise didn’t really intensify that experience. But I loved all three movie. What a busy summer that was! I miss being a teenager.
Twister is probably responsible for why i love disaster movies and by extension, giant monster movies. i saw that movie when i was 7 years old and its still my favorite genre as well as being one of my favorite movies
Twisters is double because it’s 30 years later and inflation also is a beeyotch. Its also not a reboot but a sequel. Reviews have been great. It’s a crowd pleaser and actually good. Very entertaining and likable main cast.

In 1996, I saw that before or after Independence Day, when I saw this movie it blows me away even enjoying the intense scenes even though the dialogue wasn’t the strongest parts for the characters but I still enjoyed it for over 25 years. I can’t wait for the upcoming Twisters. The film that is.
I remember it was a huge deal the scene of the cow going around the tornado because it was one of the best CGI moments pre-2000s
I was so excited for this film when I saw the trailer in the theater. Saw it opening weekend, and wasn't disappointed. The entire audience gasped, jumped, and went on the wild ride together. It was amazing.

Seeing this in 96 is still one of my favourite ever cinema experiences; loved it from start to finish and the entire audience was 100% on board for the ride. 90s blockbusters were really something special.
I saw this movie 5x in the theater when it was released and I was and am obsessed. It's completely quotable and the perfect mix of camp and fun effects. The perfect summer popcorn flick. Additionally, people have recreated the iconic red pick-up and it has an entire social media presence, called the extreme. The love of storm chasers for Bill Paxton was _well_ loved by the storm chaser community and the send off was amazing.
No way they don't completely _RUIN_ the sequel-that-isn't-a-sequel, Twisters.
Edit: The Pepsi logo prob wasn't _intentional_ since with doppler radar, green is reflection off rain towards the radar and red is moving away from it....and the tornado is spinning ;)

It's amazing that this film even exists all because Industrial Light And Magic spent ten weeks to create two seconds of test footage that never even showed up in the finished product.
Habib (one of the guys who did the test footage) said the clip was more like 10 seconds or so but they only used that snipped for the trailer. The full clip is lost somewhere and the general public has never seen the full version.

And it turns out that the clip was only recently released last year and is 17 seconds long. So we can finally experience the clip that inspired Universal and Warner Bros to make this masterpiece.
This film is hands down one of my all time favorite childhood movies. Which is why it’s one I still watch till this day. I almost became a Storm Chaser because of Twister.

@@shadowleon659 Well you kinda got your wish, since Toho got the rights to that character it was renamed Zilla and has been called that ever since.
I don't know if anybody has said this, but that radar most likely wasn't purposely making a Pepsi logo. The red and green is a velocity reading with the two colors representing winds that are blowing towards and away from the radar site. Whenever you have tight couplings of bright green next to bright red (there's usually gray between the two as the wind transitions) that's a strong indication of rotation. When you see a tornado warning that says "radar indicated", the velocity signature is usually one of the major factors in that determination.

I love this movie, such a fun film at the time. Co-written by Anne-Marie Martin, she was also the co-star of the 80's classic series Sledge Hammer! That show is probably deserving of a look as a GoodBadShow.
Those effects and that sound design was really effective in a theater. Hurricanes and Tornados are a reality where I live so these things are very real things to fear.

Cecil, you have no idea how much this movie means to me, and how integral it was to me growing up. This movie has one of the best scores of original and licensed music ever. It's not-so-subtly a car movie, with blatant Dodge product placement that I love. The acting is superb, with a ton of quotable lines and likable characters. The action and CG still holds up to this day.
It is easily one of my top 10 movies of all time, and I felt like nobody gave it the love it deserved. Paxton and "Dusty" Hoffman have no idea what they meant to me, and the support role that movie played during my parents messy divorce at a young age.
We visited Wakita after filming was over and talked to some locals. We learned a few things:
* Wakita was picked because so many buildings in downtown had been condemned and needed to be torn down but the down didn't have the budget to do that. Also, Wakita is on the end of a road, nothing else is past it so the town was easy to seal off during filming.
* The aunt's house that was destroyed was lifted up by two cranes and dropped. Then carpenters went in and made it structurally sound so it wouldn't collapse.
* To damage the trees in town, they brought in logging equipment from the Northwest, huge machines that would pinch the trees and then they would drive in a circle, twisting the trees until they snapped. Every tree that was destroyed was replaced with newer trees by the studio.
* Also, that 'possible Pepsi logo' in the radar, is pretty accurate regarding wind sheer and wind speeds when tornadoes form.
As for the Pepsi thing, I figured as much but it is still funny to see.
Never Forget Bill Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman. I absolutely love rewatching this ultimate cinematic masterpiece of a film!!

I've long maintained that the best visual effects are a combination of practical and CGI: the practical forms the basis, with the CGI just animating or polishing the practical effects.

There wasn’t much of a choice in 1995-96. CGI had made advances since T2 and Jurassic Park, but doing effects full CGI was still a long way off.
I would have liked to see DeBont's Godzilla. It's baffling where all the money goes for Hollywood films, and more so after it was revealed Godzilla Minus One cost $10 million in US dollars in 2023, and it's (in my opinion) the best Godzilla movie ever made.
The tornado in The Wizard of Oz is still a fantastic effect.

Holy crap, Independence Day only cost 75 mill? What the hell are studios spending money on these days for budgets to easily sit in the 150M+ range?
CG is incredibly expensive due to the time investment for it and the computing power necessary. It's not a simple or easy process, and the more work done in CG the higher the cost.
Adjust for inflation. $75 million back in 1996 would be $150 million today.
You means 300M today. Big studios actually wasting money to pay executive, producer rather than paying CGI artist and production crew...... I remember I watch a channel where that person said today movie production is different from old movie the process for VFX CGI today were done right before principal photography happened and then if studios dissatisfied with test screen feedback, they will reshoot that movie and forcing CGI artist redo from scratch and we got disaster like Justice League (2017) and that movie is the first movie that failed in every aspect but Hollywood never learn and since then every flop movie with heavy CGI that looks like ps3 games are normalise since 2019......
Meanwhile Godzilla Minus One using old style of production where they make sure the script is great and then doing principal photography after that doing VFX and locked that movie for mass distribution.
We can see how many mcu movie in phase 4 and phase 5 suffers with rewrote script, most of them are more than 20 rewriten and at the time of rewrite, CGI team were told to do Pre-Vis
I did follow what snyder said when he doing Justice League snyder's cut, he said after script was greenlit, CGI team doing Pre-Vis. Someone even post leaked Pre-Vis to hype that cut in 2020. Then while he shooting, CGI artist doing VFX simultaneously and they need to match every scene with principal photography. After finished Principal photography, they need to do editing all scene in one movie and doing ADR. After that the movie will be locked and VFX team need to polished every scene before distribution happened 2 weeks in March 2021

Twister and Dante's Peak are my favorite disaster movies!! I rewatch them whenever I can
I saw the new film. I believe the 200 million is all visually there. Some of the disaster looked grand and massive. Sure it most likely is CG but the debris looked scale looked great! Film wise, it’s quite decent and my only real praise is Glenn Powel who always steals the scene.
Edit: it was also shot on 35 mm and the story writer is Joseph Kosinski who I think is severely underrated as a director. He had the praise he deserved with Top Gun Maverick but his previous films: Tron: Legacy, Oblivion and Only the Brave were very entertaining. It only made sense this new one is doing as well because of Kosinski’s constant desire to just make entertainment.
It seems this is one of the rare legacy/late sequels that is actually good. I'm glad, if they are going to continue to make these at least make them good!
I watched this movie so many times as a kid. Great cast, impressive special effects, also introduced many of us to what storm chasers were.

1996 was the year I moved to Oklahoma. I was ten years old when Twister first released literally a week later and it was such a huge hit. It made me instantly interested in meteorology. It never went anywhere since I such at math but it's still fascinating.
I love twister, the sequel was just as good. Thank you for doing this video Cecil! It brought me to tears for making such an amazing video on one of my all time favourite movies.

The sequel was a lot better than I expected, was surprised and really enjoyed it. They did the original justice with constant callbacks and nostalgia while taking a new spin on the story for the new generation. Great film.

I was OBSESSED with this movie as a kid. I'm from the Midwest, and all throughout my childhood I had a full-blown phobia of tornados. If there was even a chance of showers I'd be glued to The Weather Channel, my stomach in knots, praying it wouldn't turn into a thunderstorm. Paradoxically, I was also fascinated by tornados, and I found this movie to be weirdly soothing for some reason I still can't explain.

I saw Twister and Independence Day back-to-back in a drive-in theater, and it was a blast! It may be the most memorable way that I could have seen either movie.
One of my favorite memories was taking my date to see Twister on the big screen in 2017, that movie holds up so well visually to this day and the sound design was incredible in a cinema environment. 🌪️

So far, this is your masterpiece "Exploring" video. This is a special film for many early 90s kids. Saw this at a theater on opening day with my big Sis. She said if I behaved, we would watch Eraser next weekend.
I always love these these in depth exploring videos, Cecil! I find your in depth deep dives into the filmmaking process of these films, to be fascinating! They definitely add to my interest in wanting to get involved in filmmaking, myself! I had no idea that this incredible disaster film, from my early adolescent days, has had such a lasting impact, & is still appreciated till this day!! Always nice to know that something from my generation was able to achieve that!! I definitely remember Twister was a massive success, when it came out!

In my family, we quoted this movie all the time growing up!!
I'll never forget watching this as a kid at home. That horrifying intro, the insane effects, the excitement of surviving (vicariously) one of the most destructive natural forces. Nothing else compares. While I do hope the new one isn't a failure, it's standing in the shadow of a giant.
...And now I want to watch the film again after probably 20 whole years if not longer.
The 1990s was certainly a peak in cinema, The tech was just in the right place that the right director could get awesome practical and awesome CGI. And at the same time studios still had some backbone so they took risks rather than trying to crank out big budget established IP sequels and cinematic universes. I could be wrong but I just feel like movies like Twister, ID4, The Matrix, Fifth Element. Could never be made today due to lack of connection to an already marketable IP.
Jami Gertz's character is my favorite in this movie! I love how she knew about as much as I did going into it. Just a perfect match! Great video and we have a local Drive-in that's doing a double feature for Twister / Twisters when it releases. Last year, they did Wizard of Oz/ Twister double feature that was Awesome!!! That is one of the best ways to see Twister for me, because it reminds me of the 1st time i saw it, when it was released: at the drive-in!

Twister is a good film and gain my interest in these destructive forces of nature. One of the best special effects of making the tornadoes feel real and almost characters are their own.
