You mentioned alcohol consumption - have you also been supplementing with B-vitamins? Thiamine is especially important because your liver uses it to help with processing the alcohol, and even when you're replete with thiamine, there's a finite amount available that can be used up quickly if your body is stressed. I've found thiamine to be very helpful with my lower leg edema issues.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 to stage 3 lymphedema in my lower legs in 2020. Technicians performed lymphatic massages 2 or 3 times one week before I received my lymphedema pump. The manual massages were only marginally effective for me. I ensured that the pump apparati were strapped very snuggly to my feet, lower legs, upper legs and lower torso. I would run the pump through a 60 or 90 minute cycle. I was told I would have a strong urge to urinate if the massage was successful. That never happened with the manual massages. It always happened with the pump. I used the pump every day for about two or three weeks, then had an appointment to get fitted for compression stockings. I had lost 750 ml of fluid volume from my lower right leg and 500 ml of fluid volume from my lower left leg. I've worn only the compression stockings since then and have had no need to use the lymphedema pump since then.
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) feels good, but doesn't work one time and done. Do it regularly as an adjunct to your other therapy. (Your therapist can suggest a routine for you.) Did I mention that it feels good?
My mother had right side mastectomy for breast cancer 5 months back . 2 days back she had a slip and fall and sustained a distal radial bone fracture on the right wrist and now have her arm immobilised below the elbow. Huh. The lymphatic drainage movement looks like the oil massage I do for some friends. One of them has swollen legs and it helps her. Tip: buy a jar of organic coconut oil at the supermarket, the type that you can use for cooking. It's convenient because it's solid at room temperature but melts at body temperature, so you can scoop out a solid bit with a spoon and it melts only on the skin instead of dripping everywhere. It's much cheaper than specialized massage oils, smells nice but not too strong, heats up comfortably as you do the massage, hydrates the skin, and you can use the rest for cooking.

I just found your channel and subscribed. I have had primary lymphedema in my left leg since having a hysterectomy in 2011. I had uterine cancer and after the doctor removed 10 lymph nodes on both sides, no cancer had spread but I developed lymphedema. I have a book on this condition with foods to eat or eliminate. I had a bout with lymphedema last year, following my second time of testing positive for covid-19 (I had also tested positive in Dec 2020). My husband and I followed your video on massage for lymphatic drainage in feet, ankles and legs. It worked perfectly -the swelling was gone after the second massage. A couple of weeks ago, my feet started swelling again. Yesterday, my husband and I followed the video again, and today, I have an area of redness on the top of my foot between the big toe and second toe. What happened? Is this okay? Should I use ice, or what to do to get the redness out?
Very helpful and I took a lot of notes. I need to hit the gym as I know and I miss being able to swim in the Bahamas but my Condo here in Florida has no pool and Florida has too many bacteria and sharks on the beach so that is a no no! So back to the gym it is. Thanks forthe great information.
Kelly, do you have a video for lower leg lymphedema using kinesiotape? I’d really like to be able to have some variety with managing this leg of mine. Thanks!
I underwent a liposuction/ de-bulking surgery in my left upper and lower leg. The surgery was performed by Dr. Wei Chen at the Cleveland Clinic. This far i have seen great results in terms of smaller limb size and new lymphatic vessel regeneration visualized through indocyanine green lymphography. He also performs lymphovenous anastomoses (LVA), basically a lymphatic bypass either in the legs or arms (depending on the affected limb). I haven’t had the LVA yet, so I can’t speak to much about the outcomes of the surgery, but from what I’ve heard that he has “cured” many patients from their lymphedema through his surgeries.
Can you please give s simple plan what to do at home for those of us who have had canckles and thick calves all our lives no matter our weight? But not enough to see a doctor? I notice such a dent after a day of wearing socks with a tight band that I now suspect oedema to be the problem. Also, when I was pregnant my legs and ankles swelled to much. And if my thick, heavy legs ARE a kind of mild oedema that ive had all my life, an affliction that just never has been identified as such Where to go if I just have this suspicion? Again, my doc would probably just say: if it IS oedema, it isn't bad enough to treat. ...so keep buying extra extra wide boots and hiding legs and ankles and just feeling so heavy and tired in my legs.
I had lymphedema in my leg. I injured my leg in an accident. Then I noticed my shoe was filling up with fluid . I couldn’t figure out what was happening. Then I saw that it was coming from a tiny little scratch on my leg. It drained my whole leg. It has been about 1 1/2 years and the lymphedema still hasn’t come back the way it was. I don’t know why doctors don’t just do this type of a drain?
What?! 😮 Maybe you have found the key to lymphedema?? That would be sooooo terrific!!! Lymph oozing through the skin is considered to be a very unpleasant side effect of lymphedema and it's indeed a pain in the a$$, so we are told to stop it by all means possible. With pads, towels, compression and what not, it normally takes 2 or 3 days. I also know this from experience. And I found a special gel that stops it within minutes or hours. But maybe I should take a few days when I don't go out of the house and try this drain and see what happens. Could you please tell us more about it? How long did that take? Did you use anything to absorb the fluid, or just let it flow and dried it every now and then? If you prefer, you can also write me privately, just google my name and choose a platform. Thanks! 🌷
@@AndreaGerakSinger it would be great if this was a solution! A concern I may point out is could the " draining" leave an opening for infection to enter the body through the open lymph system? ( I do not know, and would love to see if draining works, but I would ask a Dr or Google the risks of encouraging a drain)
@@AndreaGerakSingera shunt would work. "Shunt procedures can address pressure on the brain caused by hydrocephalus and relieve its symptoms such as gait difficulty, mild dementia and lack of bladder control. If the doctor finds that these problems improve after a lumbar puncture, it may mean that placing a shunt may be able to provide a longer-term benefit." It's basically a capped off tube in a particular place.
Can I still swim if I already have a wound area on my leg? Also I've heard that mechanical muscle massages are good lymphatic drainage, should I invest?
I recently had a wound on my lower leg. My dr said no swimming or lymphedema pump (I have a Tactile Flexitouch Plus) during treatment. I've had my pump since the end of March, and it has definitely helped!
Is there any way to avoid the wraps? I was recently diagnosed with lipo-lymphedema and have my first appointment with a lymphedema specialist. The wraps look like they will impede my ability to work and, if I don’t work, I don’t get paid. I have no support system in my area. Plus, the only exercise I will do is swimming and I can’t do that in the wraps. I am hoping compression wear and a pneumatic compression device will do the job. I already got a dry brush and am looking forward to learning about how that works.
My tissue is damaged from the inside out and looks like dusky reddish/ brown stain.. It also causes me to bruise easily, even when I take special care pulling on my compression hose. My question is can this staining be removed in any way? Using cosmetic concealers does nothing to disguise these ugly stains? Is laser treatment a possibility
I just found this site. Any suggestions for left leg muscle from which veins were taken for bypass surgery. Its like my ankle disappeared. Dr can do surgery but hate the thought of that.
Here is a hack I invented for the exact same problem. My difficult area was my inner knee just below the bend on both sides. The outer aspect seemed OK & did not roll down like the inside, so I only treated the insides. I used Viva paper towels for this because the surface clings to itself & to your hose. For me I use: 2 sections of towel equalling 12”. Fold into 3“ increments so you get a band of 12 X 3 inches. Put hose on where it should go, even if it won’t stay. I start at the middle of back of knee below bend . Pull hose away from leg & begin to tuck the Three inch Viva band carefully between hose & leg around leg circumference, allowing top band of hose to “grab” Viva band & hold it in place as you work around alternatively pulling away hose, tucking Viva , & moving to next area allowing hose to hold everything in place until you get to the end. The kicker: do not allow wrinkles , bumps, or kick, because it will put too much pressure on one sm place & hurt after a while, 2. The Viva band must extend half “ or quarter “ past top of hose for comfort & to work right. This process does take patience & practice, but once you are good at it, it will keep your hose from rolling down & it will be much more comfortable to wear. I do this nearly every day. I can’t afford new hose & mine are all stretched out on top. If your edema is worse than mine & you need to go all the way around leg, I suggest two bands & allowing them to smoothly overlap at least an inch or more in back & front. One long one to tuck is just too difficult. If you are an extreme case , you might need your band 3.5 to 4 inches wide. It will be more difficult to tuck & you may ( probably) need help. Why it works. I believe if my hose band at the top was a lot wider I would not have this problem. The inner knee tissue is very soft , kind of fluffy & indents easily from the pressure of the hose band. The Vice gently compresses a 3 “ area & then when the hose is applied it doesn’t dig in one place deeply with the puffy fat allowing it to roll. I have tried all kinds of ways & nothing works as good as this. It stays perfect all day long. Adapt to your own situation, but it has been a Godsend to me, but does take practice till you get it down pat. Good luck.
I was prescribed Cipro to treat a bacterial infection in the gut due to contaminated water from the local water supply. The cipro trashed my entire body, tendon tears, immune system, neuropathy in one side of my body, including my left leg, foot, and ankle with accompanying tendon ruptures. The left leg now swells with fluid, and both legs feel heavy, especially towards evening. I hope these lymphatic messages help. It has been almost three years since that toxic antibiotic was prescribed, and I have only made moderate progress, am easily fatigued, and have low energy, and even some brain damage, visual disturbances which are literally all in my head. The eyes themselves are OK. Will this message therapy help with recovery? I have become disabled to some extent by this medication. To anyone reading this, never allow a doctor to prescribe Ciproflaxin or any related antibiotic. They are highly toxic, destroy the mitochondria in cells, and weaken every system in the body. A word to the wise. Thank you for these video clips to eliminate lymphatic toxins. Hopefully, this will help.

But the heart failure nurse said compression should help him. He doesn't like wearing them, says they are uncomfy.
I hope your dad gets better- my father is 87 and we found out last year that he had kidney disease and have been monitoring his egfr since- the first thing the doctor did for him was ask him to change his diet to a low sodium low pottasium and low phosphorus diet(renal diet) to be able to get him off the diuretics because they wreck havoc on the kidneys- his legs used to swell up and get very big- he’d wake up and they’d be swollen- after he fixed his diet, no diuretic or anything is needed thank god- they get a little swollen after he sits down for a long time but that’s normal with a lot of people - he wakes up well - I urge you to ask him to pay more attention to what he’s eating and upping his water intake and see where it goes from there to try to spare him the need for diuretics because they’re too harsh on thier bodies at that age- we ve also had that experience of water covering his lungs but that was after a very very very high sodium meal he had

If you're on medicare, 2024 is the first time they are paying for lymphedema treatments and products. I am currently in physical therapy for the lymphedema and have just recently gotten custom wraps. Both are helping enormously
I have done long haul flights from the US to South Africa and wore customized compression wraps ordered through my Lymphedema Therapist. I request wheel chair assistance because the less you walk before the flight the less swelling but I have to admit, some rather painful times in my ankle and feet after hour 8 of a flight. Make sure you use wheel chair assistance after the flight because your body needs time to decompress. I didn't do it on my first flight with compression , 7 hour transatlantic flight, and almost had a major Vegas nerve meltdown while waiting for passport control ( fainting and doing little seizure movement in front of crowded airport not pretty). Don't take my compression pump with me, only wear my compression garments religiously, and I didn't have any significant swelling after our 3 week trips.

Hyperbaric Oxygen ( HBO ) Therapy is another way to use on Lymphedema. True it is not cheap and insurance will fight to pay for it! Why do i suggest it you ask???? Because the human body and other mammals can be subjected to ( gradually ) pressure to force out moisture of its cells! Notice the difference when dive into a deep end of a pool and try to come up to the surface in a sudden rush for air. Depending on how you dive down, you get the " BENDS "; a condition that nitrogen saturation that pressurize your cells that until that adjust to from the water weight ( medium ) after a dive. You do not have to take my word on this subject... just anybody who a deep sea diver or anyone who specializes in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Also get a doctor's recommendation to get it done. You notice and feel the difference. Anyway, good luck on the health recovery!!!!😊😊😊😊😊

Thank you for presenting this video.
will this work for lipeodema
Yes, God bless you!!! Such great information ℹ️❤. As usual Kelly your information is life-saving and life-changing, keep it coming we love you and we love you for it🤗🌺💐😃🙌👋💯🫶💯🫶💯🫶💯
I sure wish that you could treat me personally and I could go to your clinic.
On a personal note that must be a new ring.💍 Congratulations 🎉👏
Thank u.
Thanks so much for this ❤️
I had a bout with lymphedema last year, following my second time of testing positive for covid-19 (I had also tested positive in Dec 2020). My husband and I followed your video on massage for lymphatic drainage in feet, ankles and legs. It worked perfectly
-the swelling was gone after the second massage.
Thanks!
Here is one of the videos! There are a few on my list 🙂 ruclips.net/video/E65k9pFXS1s/видео.htmlsi=2Hi_s8H2lfM_Kl3b
Wonderful !
What is your opinion of the vibrating plates you stand on to help with lymphatic flow?
I get asked this so much, so I just filmed a quick video about it and it’ll be up soon 🙂

What do you think about Redlight/NIR Therapy for this situation?
Just talked to his office last week. Do you still have to wear compression stockings.
@@ellenbashaw5110 yes, I do still have to wear compression, but the limb doesn’t swell as much as it used to - so it’s more manageable overall.
This is amazing I am from south africa please can you please give me thus doctors email address or contact details 🙏

What about a thigh that had a vein treated; which massage would help?
Instead of compression bandaging which takes time is there any other option for leg lymphodema?
Can you please give s simple plan what to do at home for those of us who have had canckles and thick calves all our lives no matter our weight? But not enough to see a doctor? I notice such a dent after a day of wearing socks with a tight band that I now suspect oedema to be the problem. Also, when I was pregnant my legs and ankles swelled to much.
And if my thick, heavy legs ARE a kind of mild oedema that ive had all my life, an affliction that just never has been identified as such
Where to go if I just have this suspicion?
If the doctor finds that these problems improve after a lumbar puncture, it may mean that placing a shunt may be able to provide a longer-term benefit."
It's basically a capped off tube in a particular place.
Hello can I have your contact details pls
My daughter has this and sores developed on her lower leg. The wraps seemed to irritate it more and would stick to the sores.
Do these exercises work for poor blood circulation as well?
I have the same question.
Big Love for u,I from Indonesia
I just found this site. Any suggestions for left leg muscle from which veins were taken for bypass surgery. Its like my ankle disappeared. Dr can do surgery but hate the thought of that.
Does this work for Turner's Syndrome lymphedema?
THANKS TO YOU
How do you put on support stockings after a replacement.
Can Red Light Therapy help with lymphodema?
Please say you are not serious.
Thank you
if you have a heart condition you are not supposed to compress or push up fluid as it will drown the lungs, as per a cardiologist.
Hi, where to find massage technique video and sequence for lymphedema of lower extremities? Thanks
Look at the doctors previous videos.
I have swollen on the legs and feet.
Such an issue w/compression socks cutting off circulation at top of leg, rolling down, creating top of leg circulation cut off 😢
Here is a hack I invented for the exact same problem.
Good luck.
can you get this from drinking alcohol…My legs are so swollen ,I’m going to quit drinking
what about vibration wouldn"t that work best
I could be wrong but I think taking fibrinolytic enzymes can help

Are you _sure_ that it was the med and NOT the contaminants in the water?

I was looking for a natural remedy for edema, and Durva Swaras worked perfectly! The swelling in my legs is much less now, and I feel more active. Such a great product from Planet Ayurveda!
My dad age 84 has heart failure and kidney issues and on diuretics etc. His feet and toes are so swollen and the water went right up to his chest and just had a lot drained away with IV diuretics. He seems ok, except for his massive feet, he can't get shoes on. The district nurse said compression would be bad for him as it would push too much water back to his heart.
@@milisteene1801 My dad has heart failure too and on fluid restriction of 1.5 litres a day of water/fluids. He is terrible for adding salt to lots of things, he has tried to cut down but fails. They say his legs swell because of his heart not being able to pump at full capacity

Compression works for lymph edema, but not for other conditions that cause swelling. Get a thorough diagnosis so you know what you are dealing with.

I wear level 3 (so very tight) mid-thigh compression stockings because of arterial oedema. I've tried lymphatic drainage but as mine isn't venous, apparently it's ineffective. It's why I only wear trousers or long skirts. 😢
Hi I have these disease for so long my legs ankle &. feet are always swallen know it's turning black
Excellent, thanks a lot. You're so beautiful.
Hello I just found out I have lipedema and my doctor told me it's nothing they can do for me-i have it in both legs .can anyone point me in the right direction so I can receive tteatment?
Check with Rehabilitation Centers. They may have lymphedema clinics that can explain more about your condition. I went to a Rehabilitation center for my treatment.
If your legs or ankles swell cellulitis may be part of the problem. Antibiotics well heal the limbs. See your doctor.
Thank you Kelly!..can you tell me please is it advisable to SLEEP with a compression thigh high stocking on? will this help reduce swelling in my leg?
My therapist told me NOT to sleep with compression stockings. Good luck!

How do people travel by air? I can’t see how I can travel with a pump. Are there other options to keep swelling at a minimum, for instance a week?
Some take a pump, but most either wrap/bandage and wear good compression garments while flying. Everyone is different in what they need, though 🙂
If you're on medicare, 2024 is the first time they are paying for lymphedema treatments and products. I am currently in physical therapy for the lymphedema and have just recently gotten custom wraps. Both are helping enormously
@imahick5723 Can you give more info? Did you access this option through primary care physician or a massage therapist etc?

Thank you1!
