I made these one day when we had no bread and no money. Flour, water, salt, frying pan. They were a big hit. Nice with some grated cheese mixed in too. The other thing that's lovely with cold meats is German potato bread. I use the Hairy Bikers' recipe and it's pretty foolproof.
Made this tonight brushed with garlic butter and chilli flakes, served with butter chicken skewers, Spanish onion, crème fraiche, carrots and lettuce. The bread was the star. Can’t believe I haven’t tried making it before!
The day after Christmas in my house we make hot open faced sandwiches. You take a piece of bread that you toasted...put that down first, the add your thinly sliced beef, next a pile of fries (chips if your European), top with a really good brown gravy and some buttered peas. Its the best thing ever. Must be eaten woth knife and fork! Hope some people can try it this year. I know ill be eating it.

We’re having ham and prime rib for Christmas this year. I’m just so grateful to spend the holiday with my daughter and grandsons. Y’all have a wonderful and a very merry Christmas.
Great recipe! How come it needs to rest when made with baking powder and not yeast? I thought the neeting and raising was for the bacteria to fill the dough with air? Can anyone help enlighten me? :)
Andy please make a video for ozoni soup with fresh mochi?❤️ it was a tradition with my Japanese side of my family but the recipe has been lost over the years and passing of my great aunts.
I can make schnitzels, casseroles, steak n mushy pies, lasagne, all roasts, stuffed chicken, curries, stroganoff, cakes, biscuits and deserts of all kind but I cannot, after years of trying make bread. It just never rises. I've tried packet, bottle and boxed yeast, a dozen recipes, even a bread maker - it just never rises without either failing completely or having 90% bubble inside. I gave up and just buy it.
Andy, I have never had a problem with your instructions before. But you said you can use any flour, juad not self-rising flour. Then you proceed to mix flour, baking powder and salt... Which is just what self-rising flour is. Sure the proportions aren't going to be quite what you'd mix, but I guarantee that self-rising will do in a pinch.
Andy. Fluor is sucker. Honey also. This causes diabetisch. I follow your chanel and you are a inspiration for cooking. But these recepys? Think about it.

Look. I get the whole "it tastes better homemade", but I'm craving that so much I just go out and get some bread. I don't know about all places, but at least here there's a bakery always open, even on holidays.
You say "just not self raising flour" but then add baking powder to plain flour. Couldn't I just use self raising without the extra baking powder and still achieve at least a pretty similar result?
In India we make it everyday this is essential in pur daily diet Love from India 🇮🇳 But in India we have culture to don't kill animal for our own benefits 😢
You always create amazing videos!!! Never disappoint! We have a similar recipe but we use avocado oil, all purpose flour, baking soda, warm water and a pinch of salt , we cook it on a flat surface and call them tortillas, and whatever you want to put on it, wrap it and we call it BURRITOS
@Andy_cooks I have a bag of almond flour, as you know is quite expensive. What would you make with it? I don't want to make something all sweet, so I don't know if almond flour can be used for something savory..
I wouldn't recommend adding flour whilst kneading. You'll just keep adding flour until it's so dry that it doesn't stick rather than developing gluten. It's better to not add any flour whilst kneading and just work through the stickiness, eventually it will form a nice dough
Even easier one? Flour and Greek yogurts in equal parts and a tea spoon of baking powder. Leave for 15 mins, then roll flat and cook in a dry pan and you basically got fluffy flat bread I use for gyros or add seasoning to after cooking for fake naans you can make at home
Stop adding flour when your kneading, your throwing off the hydration of the dough. you’ll know when it’s properly kneaded when it stops sticking to the bench. Look up slap and fold kneading technique.
I have a question. What can I substitute for the honey? I don't have any honey right now and I also don't have any money either. LOL But I would like to make this and give it a try. So if I could make it without honey that would be great because I don't buy honey ever unless I have the money and a recipe calls for it. Actually I'm not the biggest fan of honey. I'll use it in a recipe if it calls for it, but I don't just buy honey to have it on hand.
Love the recipes and delivery, but the new bids with the mustache doesn’t look good. I like the old clean look, but if you’re gonna do the mustache go full Monty, and do something like a full mustache in the style of Dali! 🤣
The day after Christmas, i don't have have bread, I could spend 30 minutes resting my dough, but instead I spend it going to the shops and buying bread.
Damn now im hungry, but i want you to ask, did you ever tried the north german dish "Birnen, Bohnen und Speck“ ( which means Pears, Beans and Bacon i guess)?

I love The Hairy Bikers, their tiramisu recipe was a godsend when my aunt was pregnant and couldn’t have raw eggs or alcohol.
In India we call it roti we makes it everyday

Do you know which book the recipe is in 😂
I have a lot of their books but no idea which one to look in.
@@sjlaing: Just Google ‘Hairy Bikers Flatbread’. You’ll find the recipe there.
This is perfect, I will try this. At the moment I don't have a lot of money so this is a very good alternative to bread.
Picalilli is the all time best condiment with cold meats and cheeses.
I make my own as the commercial brands are very iffy.
Make these for homemade curries, only dough im able to use without making a mess, pizza dough I absolutely flopped on that one.
Mmmm!

Why doesn’t self raising flour work, when it’s just flour with baking powder, which you added?
My question, too?
Yeah, is it too much leavening? Too much salt? What is the deal...
Gonna try this with SRF, leaving out salt and baking powder.
It is an Indian chapati. In northern India, we eat it almost everyday. Noice!
I’ve made these before and they’re delicious
love that little wooo when he takes the dough out of the bowl and I'm definitely getting your cookbook
It's worth it :)
I greatly appreciate how you have a mix of complicated and easy recipes--something for everyone!
I learned to make flour and corn tortillas years ago. They are so delicious and easy to make. Ty for the vids.
Nice. Or make a big Yorkshire pudding in a large square pan. Use it as a wrap for all the leftovers, like a big flatbread/burrito Yorkie.

Yessss! I made my own flour tortillas once and they were so good. Might have to do that again during this holiday!
Even easier, mix equal parts flour and greek yogurt, season, quick knead then into a hot pan, even quicker and easier flat bread
But you used baking powder?!! Andy you're sacked....

my only gripe is that without fermentation and levening, the quality of the flour is paramount ... it's not easily digestable

No, self raising would work for this as long as you don't add the baking powder because the self raising flower already has baking powder in it
