  • THIS VIDEO IS A RECONSTRUCTION OF THE FOLLOWING SITUATION IN FLIGHT:
    05-JUL-2023. A Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330-200 (A332), registration N378HA, performing flight HAL22 / HA22 from Honolulu Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, HI (USA) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, WA (USA) was about 200 miles north of Honolulu at 39000 feet when the flight crew reported loss of hydraulic fluid in the yellow system, requested return to Honolulu Airport and declared an emergency. After landing the pilots requested the inspection of the aircraft by emergency personnel.

    THE VALUE OF THIS VIDEO:
    THE MAIN VALUE IS EDUCATION. This reconstruction will be useful for actual or future air traffic controllers and pilots, people who plan to connect life with aviation, who like aviation. With help of this video reconstruction you’ll learn how to use radiotelephony rules, Aviation English language and general English language (for people whose native language is not English) in situation in flight, which was shown. THE MAIN REASON I DO THIS IS TO HELP PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND EVERY EMERGENCY SITUATION, EVERY WORD AND EVERY MOVE OF AIRCRAFT.
    SOURCES OF MATERIAL, LICENSES AND PERMISSIONS:
    Source of communications - www.liveatc.net/ (I have a permission (Letter) for commercial use of radio communications from LiveATC.net).
    Map, aerial pictures (License (ODbL) ©OpenStreetMap -www.openstreetmap.org/copyrig...) Permission for commercial use, royalty-free use.
    Radar screen (In new versions of videos) - Made by author.
    Text version of communication - Made by Author.
    Video editing - Made by author.
    HOW I DO VIDEOS:
    1) I monitor media, airspace, looking for any non-standard, emergency and interesting situation.
    2) I find communications of ATC unit for the period of time I need.
    3) I take only phrases between air traffic controller and selected flight.
    4) I find a flight path of selected aircraft.
    5) I make an animation (early couple of videos don’t have animation) of flight path and aircraft, where the aircraft goes on his route.
    6) When I edit video I put phrases of communications to specific points in video (in tandem with animation).
    7) Together with my comments (voice and text) I edit and make a reconstruction of emergency, non-standard and interesting situation in flight.

    For that first controller, man even the controllers are chilled and relaxed in Hawaii. Haha.

      Was about to say that. All FDs use “Battalion” callsign and the “Engine #” if necessary.

    Assuming there are 3 systems on the A330, losing one entirely should be an emergency. Just a minor inconvenience.

    Seems like you should give an emergency aircraft direct to the airport instead of putting them on an arrival. Interesting.

    • @AureliusR
      @AureliusR 10 месяцев назад +9

      @@Patco11 Well, it wasn't a super urgent emergency at the time. Low hydraulic fluid is definitely a reason to land, but most airplanes have triply redundant hydraulic systems, plus electrical backups, etc etc. Also, the pilots were obviously calm and in full control of the airplane. Putting them on an arrival is probably easier for everyone, as they can punch it in on their MFD and have autopilot follow the arrival procedure so they can focus on checklists.

      @@AureliusR Makes sense I guess but if pilots declared emergency who makes call on seriousness?

    • @thomasaltruda
      @thomasaltruda 10 месяцев назад +7

      Honestly it’s easier for the pilots to land off of an arrival and approach than it is to go “direct” to the airport. The FMS and autopilot work better to do the arrival and approach. Also from their position to HNL would put them over mountains and is opposite the direction that they would want to land anyway. The milage difference between “direct” and the arrival is negligible, especially since they have to go around the southeast corner where the terrain is anyway.

    • @iamtheAtomicPenguin
      @iamtheAtomicPenguin 10 месяцев назад +2

      They didn't fly the arrival in the end, they received vectors right after BAMBO. The route was short and predictable for the crew, no need to fly over high terrain if nothing's on fire and the plane flies normally.
