Historically the Italians removed the nose turret from the P.108B Series 2 since they shifted their strategic bomber use to night bombing, so the nose gun was deemed unnecessary and was removed to increase the planes aerodynamics.
Love Italian and planes, the performance of a lot of their fighters is excellent and these three-engined bombers look sick, just wish they had better defensive armament. An extra 50cal in each turret would go a long way

In November 2021 the Italian 12.7 mm heavy machine gun had a bug fixed where its HEF (high explosive fragmentation) bullet finally was corrected and now has the proper explosive component. This also means that instead of using the normal Universal belt, using the default belt where the HEF bullet is present is a good alternative for the gunners. The HEF bullet has proved to be very effective.
You say nay to the SM79 series. It is actually my favourite. For a small daily bomb base task, it is superb. 1.7 tier II. The only real threat is the MiG 3. The only other plane I use for that task is the 2.0 B6N2 with an 800kg bomb. Otherwise, I love the SM 79
Say no to all but the Bis version which is just great. If you are climbing the bomber tree, I think its a waste of time using and spading the 1.7 and 2.0 S.M 79s since you can so quickly research the better 2.3 versions 🙂 - but if the 1.7 SM is your Jazz, then by all means 👍
Just seeing this now as I'm working on the P.108B Series 2 because I wanted something different at low tier in Ground RB than the PE-8 gang. The 100lb bombs are surprisingly effective. I get a ping on map drop like 8 in a row and ones bound to hit.
@8Bit Dane I would like to point out that the armament of many of these planes have gotten a substantial buff with the Winged Lions update: the 12.7mm Breda-SAFAT guns now do a substantial amount of damage with their HEI. All HMGs with HEI were buffed at this time, so German/Swedish 13.2mm and Italian/Japanese/Swedish 12.7mm all do substantially more damage than they used to prior to that patch. Edit: I would also like to add that the Z.1007 was more designed for the torpedo bomber role; the bomb bay is designed the way it is to be able to fit a torpedo internally (an improvement from the SM.79s, which could only fit a torpedo externally).
Every time I play the z1007 serie 3, I only have enough time to fly directly to the enemy bases and back before my engines completely die from overheating. On some maps, they die anyway. However, if I'm not at 100% throttle, I lose speed. Am I doing something wrong or does the plane just suck?
Hi Daniel, sorry for the late reply, YT is not always great with telling me about new comments. The z1007 does overheat quickly and there is nothing you can do but throttle down really. I really just sit and baby the throttle to avoid the engines overheating for longer periods of time. Even though they are air cooled they behave as if they are water cooled with overheating quickly.
A few things: 1. Can you shoot off a squadmate's wheels on his S.81? Getting better performance? Maybe you yourself could try doing that with a squadmate and uploading it! Videos like that are always searched on youtube I'd presume. 2. This is the first time I notice actually how cool the S.M.79 bis/T.M looks!! 3. I was hoping you'd also dissect the S.M.79 B since it's so unique. Including a video camera-multi-angle showcase because you always do those very nicely. and slightly unrelated: 4. Will you do a review series on Heavy Fighters too? I'll be really interested what you'll have to say on some Japanese ones. I may have previously mentioned this. Sadly Italy barely has any so far. You may need to include some Attackers that partially can fill the role. Also to be fair, then you'll have to do that with all nations. Basically anything twin engine that can shoot down aircraft... wait no... which should be able to shoot down aircraft... or... damn it's hard to phrase it to make it fair in WT nation terms. I wonder if you can use the P1Y1 mod. 11 and it's forward facing defensive armament for something similar.
- Well you can shoot off the gear of a Ju 87 to improve its flight performance but not sure if you can do the same with the S.81, as in if the game has it made possible. - I have always loved how the S.M 79 series looks, same as my fondness for the German Junkers Ju 52. - I skipped the S.M 79 B since it was pretty much identical in performance to the others. Besides, I would have gone nuts if I had to cover that model as well 🙃 - I am going to cover twin-engine heavy fighters for sure, but I think I will pick them individually for smaller videos instead of doing it as Nations. -

Maybe you could test out the S.81 and upload it and make tons of views! :P Oh please do the twin engine fighters in long format like how you do nations! Your long format videos are a special cinematic treat to look forward to! Maybe if you want to make it slightly less tedious, you can group some nations together in distinct videos like: - Germany, Japan, and Italy, and mentioning China's only example here as being a Japanese plane - America, Britain, France Also don't shy away from showcasing all planes, they are really fun to look at how you meticulously zoom in on their individual parts! Keep up the good work.
It is pretty low, but it does work, side climbing is your friend. At Br 3.3 there are also not a lot of powerful piston engined fighters either and the fighters who have to climb from the airfield will take time to get to your altitude. The danger is mostly from the interceptors with air spawns and there is sadly not a whole lot you can do about that 😕Best advise is to either side climb or turn around and let your friendly fighters reach your altitude then use them as cover and move in behind them.
The series 1 has a nose turret, while the series 2 has slightly stronger engines making it about 30 km/h faster and better armor protection. I usually just use the series 1 because of the added nose turret.

Hi DG, I thought I had answered your question, but I think I messed it up, it just showed up in the comment section as not answered, sorry about that. Personally, I prefer multiple smaller drops, so the Italian R model with the 4 x 50 and 1 x 500 kg is fine for me. But I also like to have the option of the 1000 kg bomb for sure, especially on ground RB maps with chokepoints or just one capture point, great fun to be had there. What I don't like about it is, that IF you happen to miss with that one bomb, you have wasted a lot of time for that single drop. Getting back to the AF and rearm and then return takes a lot of time. A lot of planes given to other nations lack the originals bomb and rocket options. Maybe the Italians did not develop a 1000 kg bomb on their own and that is why its not in the game. They did have the 800 kg bomb that bombers use, I do think they could have put that on the Stuka. But I guess they did not do so IRL.
My favorite italian bomber is the BR.20DR, It has a pretty good payload for a rank I bomber. Good Defensive armanent positions. and the combination of roof & front turret and high spawn can easily disable enemy bombers, My only problem with it is its speed, btw i play arcade so the gunners are even more 👌
@@averageuser2007 The Bis 7 is a tiny bit faster and the dorsal turret can shoot directly behind the aircraft while the gunner on the Series 3 has to deal with the vertical stabilizer.

The SM79 BisTM is probably my favorite of the SM79s, it is pretty darn survivable with it armor protection.
