“But I chose this end” sounds so triumphant; a true reflection of how she’d gained her freedom from a society that stifled women. It gives me chills and goosebumps every time!
Actually, the most believable version is that the wealthy father of Anne (lawyer with many connections) either paid to, or "convinced" (so to say) the local British authorities to release Anne. Her pirate days were over, but at least she was free with her child. According to a piracy book of mine, this time she agreed to a marriage sponsored by her father (her whole pirate career started with her escaping a previous one), and by this account the marriage was actually healthy, she bore several other children and lived for very long (she died about 70-yera-old, a very good age for that time). She never ceased to be a spitfire, but fortunately for the British and Spanish not in the sea anymore. :)
The parallel with the first song with how she talks to jack is just!! So good! 'If you had fought like a man you wouldn't be about to die like a dog.' ' I don't understand, if only you'd fought like a man... but now you'll die like a dog.' It shows how people saw her as ruthless and emotionless in the tales when in reality she was just so desperate to see him like that. SERIOUSLY THIS IS SO GOOD
"I said good bye to the sea and to a part of me. To Anne Bonny" I cried! Incredibly done!!! I could feel me as Anne Bonny, feeling what you sang! Feeling into a possible view of Anne bonny!! I love this!
I keep listening to this song over and over and I think it's so beautiful. "But there in the cell Lay no man, but a shell And the image cut my heart" It's so tragic-the tone of your voice, the slow, sad music behind it. It's so good. And then: "She died in her cell Flew away with her child On pearl wings Like pelicans" I can honestly feel the heavy suddenness in my heart as if I'm there. The lyrics are so beautiful and heart-wrenching. I'm so stunned I don't know what to say. I really adore your Anne Bonny album, Karliene, thank you for sharing it. I'm looking forward to your other projects in the future.
This is so lovely to read. I’m so touched and happy you’re enjoying it so much. This is actually my favourite song and I loved writing it so it means a lot to hear such glowing feedback x
Wow, it's really rare for me to cry while listening to music or watching a movie, but the whole part about Mary's death really hit me hard. From "They fell for Mary" over "Sister and friend until the end" to "On pearl wings, like pelicans" I am a sobbing mess every single time!
Damn it Karliene! I was not ready for this emotional hammerblow. And now I'm wrapped up in a blanket, sitting on the sofa, crying over pirates who lived and loved and died 300 years ago.
A stirring and lovely album. As for who set her free, more than one historian surmise that it was her father who bribed enough officials to let her go. Anne obviously assumed a new role, she was an adaptable woman, and was never heard of again. I think the first song brilliantly captures this.
Magnificent album! I have never been a fan of the glorification of rogues and oulaws, but Anne and Mary will always be my favourites, bravehearts and free spirits, well ahead of their time and breaking all social norms at the time.
Wow, this song and the album have drawn me right in, can feel so many emotions the music of the story brings out that im amazed and humbled, best album i've heard this year
This song gives me chills I come back to it again and again particularly the line they fell for Mary that line hurts in a good way. You’ve really outdone yourself with this one my dear :)
My friend and I are writing Pirate Fan-fiction and this applies to us so well! And your voice is so amazing, powerful, and inspirational that while listening to this and writing, I zoned out from my real self into Heather Blackwell, the most feared female pirate on the seven seas. Thank you:)
The tear jerk is Mary reads death for me if I do meet her in the after life she has a big hug and fistbump waiting for her I just had a thought Mary reads how would she react she would probably be like(you want me to do what) just speechless
Mary Read did not die in prison. I know She lived, but I'm still researching this. I know She lived because I remember being her. Past life memory. It very fragmented though and there is not enough documentation to back up what is coming back to me. Just like the lyrics of this buetiful song I remember being Anne's good friend. I was Mary Read I'm absolutely sure of this. Believe it or not! Good luck and God bless in all your lives and adventures to come.
"They fell for Mary" hit me right in the heart
I’m glad I’m not the only one who died on that part, I just imagined her cradling a dying Mary while she sobbed and that punched my heart
@@ksand12306 I was most definitely not crying over pirates at 1:30 in the morning, you must be mistaken (I was)
@@jessicaeichenlaub8384 what if she named her daughter Mary...
@@ksand12306 I didn't need my heart anyway...
Me too may i ask you something your name sounds also German ❤❤🙋♀️
It's time for an Anne Bonny movie and this whole album is just the soundtrack it needs.
Can i second this vote please!!
What about a musical?
@@sharonefee1426 a whole new thought there and the chance to sit in theaters with this playing out before our eyes... Oh hell yes!!
I'm down for both 👀
Yesssssssssssssss the queen needs her movie

In two seconds this song created an atmosphere of danger and strength and fighting spirit
I can't get over the "They fell for Mary" part without choking up....
Marie and Anne not getting to live together with a happy ending will forever enrage me. I wonder how she escaped. Id like to think Mary's ghost helped

Yes. They tie together incredible well! It is genius portrayal of Anne Bonnie.
That was pretty clever how you put that line in there, and explained how she escaped I mean historically speaking no one knows what happened to her.

Our undefeated queen ... you see the fates do repay back in kind.
´They fell for Mary´ I literally cried

A perfect ending to the Legend Of Anne Bonny. Absolutely beautiful. Long live the pirate queen!
"cell door was left open" Probably Edward Kenway's doing.
What a cruel woman you are, making me cry in 5 minutes
I like to think it was Jonathan Barnet who captured her he was impressed by her and left the door to her cell open to spare her life 🙂
This literally gave me goosebumps. I didn’t think I could like a song more than the Anne Bonny. But i somehow loved this even more!
This is one of my favorites from the album. It is just perfect. Can't stop listening!

3 months on and I'm still listening to this album pretty much every day. My favourite thing you've ever done.
Listen to your song like watch the movie.. And I love the way you sing it..
This is the first time that a song made me cry. I can’t stop crying

This is so beatuiful and emotional. This Anne Bonny series of yours is as good as watching a movie, plus listening to awesome songs at the same time.
