    That's one hell of a studio, normally you need Superior Drummer and every expansion to get snare option paralysis, but this dude's done it for real! Sounded beautiful though! 😱

    you should still check bottom snare head phase do to possible cable polarity issues. 27:41 buy some "lug locks" they work.

    What an awesome video!!! Something that you always say is that the cymbals are very important, I changed my cymbals and it was a game changer, not just on the overhead mics, but on the rest of the kit. Thanks Kohle for sharing your knowledge to us. Greetings from México!!!

    Cool. I was skeptical at first because of the size of the room. I always prefer big rooms because I feel I'm always fighting the room in smaller spaces. But that's sounded great from the get go. And it's always super satisfying when it sounds good on the way in.

    I've commented on this before on another video of yours, but you are so right regarding cymbal thickness. I see so many drummers playing fast, then they barely have time to tap their cymbals, and it ends up not opening up properly. Then, on a slower section where they have time to lay into it, it gets louder than everything else. Ultimately, you get a much more consistent volume when you use thin to medium weight crashes. And also, yes, metal/heavy/power crashes sound atrocious

    • @norwaydude6
      @norwaydude6 Год назад

      Also, I have the same tuning problem with my Ludwig Raw Brass snare (basically a Black Beauty without the black coating). I use lug locks on all the screws, and that way it stays perfectly in tune for ages. I'd you recommend you to have a pack at hand for recording sessions, it really helps

  • @michaelkeene5950

    I have a Black Beauty and had the same problem of it detuning quickly. It’s because of the triple flange hoops they put on them. They’re very maleable. I bought Ludwig brass die cast hoops for my Black Beauty and it fixed the problem immediately. I check tuning with my tune bot and it stays pretty consistent for a good while. You can certainly get through a song before any noticeable movements. I think any Black Beauty (which is my favorite snare and a legend for a reason) really needs the hoops swapped out for die cast hoops. The Ludwig brass die cast hoops I bought for it I think were about $140. Worth every penny.

      Thanks for the tip! Still unworthy of a snare that costs >1000$ 😤 Don’t you think?

      @@KohleAudioKultI agree totally. Very overpriced. Tama (and others) makes excellent brass snare drums that sounds great live and in the studio, for half the price. Without the tuning problems.

    Great video! Out of interest, which monitors were you listening on while you were soundchecking? And did you feel like you needed to listen to some well known music in the room on the monitors to overcome the fact that you were unfamiliar with the new environment?

    Crazy: You were not interested in listening to the studio's KG D224 on the snare!? Okay, I'm getting it: you wanted to be efficient and so you stuck to your mic. Okay, ... but any other nerd would have at least tried it! ... or was it "just" a 451?

    • @attekarm
      @attekarm Год назад

      Probably the fact that they're so far apart, so they wanted to get the tweeters closer to each other. This would direct the high frequencies better to the listening position.

    • @KohleAudioKult
      @KohleAudioKult  Год назад +1

    • @aftecbello6500
      @aftecbello6500 Год назад

      @@attekarm Yeah that could be a cause, optimally they should be in 60 degrees 30/30 from the listening position. Although this narrows the stereo field significantly. Guess they liked it like this more in this room.
