      Such a good overview on getting the right selection of shells and cymbals. Always love the room sound you get there and there's a ton of energy in Krimh's playing that you captured with the choice of mics.

      every band i have seen him with he was flawless and, basically made the show for me. wasn't a huge fan of decapitated but when he played with them it was the bomb. saw them later with another drummer and it was kind of "meh"
      saw him with septic, which i don't really like and it was a great show that i would watch again.

    • @KohleAudioKult
      @KohleAudioKult  5 месяцев назад

      The right position of course.
      There are a bunch of things you need to get right when positioning your overhead mics. The hihat is not the main focus, but I usually try to achieve all the other more important goals while staying away from the hihat as good as possible.

    Awesome video - very helpful with setup tips! Question Kohle: i use the sE8’s for overheads/spot mics too, but found recent recordings with them a bit thin and “watery” for crash sounds. I use the high pass filter at its highest setting (160hz I believe) and am wondering if I scooping too much information out while tracking - do you use the HpF options on the sE8’s?

    • @franklymm
      @franklymm 5 месяцев назад +1

      I also use the sE8 for quite a while now. I found cutting 160Hz a bit to much für Overheads. Especially the snare suffers to much, imo ... Next to this, you can always put a lowcut later in the DAW.

    • @KohleAudioKult
      @KohleAudioKult  5 месяцев назад +1

      I’m not using them as overhead mics cause I prefer darker mics.
      But there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them as overheads. Compared to a lot of other SDC mics they actually sound rather flat.
      It always depends on the cymbals as well. The brighter the cymbals, the darker the mics.

    Yeah Byzance sound like shopping carts being thrown down stairs. Most Meinl sounds like ass to me. All my favorite drummers play Sabian.

    All of these plugins sound beautiful on pre-made patterns that have articulation, volume. But just add a midi track and it all sounds monotonous and not at all like on the patterns. There are still no adjustments for humanize and you have to remake each beat by hand or use Drumagog and add small irregularities. I personally didn't like the shell or the drums themselves. Dude just wants to take a bite out of the drum market.

    Two Bass drums?? I remember when Buddy Rich saw that Louie Bellson had two bass drums, he said he could do with one foot what it took Louie to do with two!
