Video Description: In this video I talk through the potential downsides of updosing a medication during a taper. If you are involved in tapering a medication, such as a benzo medication or an antidepressant medication, then I hope that the talking points in this video might help to offer a little thoughtful guidance.
This video is not medical advice. Always consult with your doctor before making changes to medications.

Roughly 3 years from cold turkey zoloft 100mg and abilify. After three days from quitting, could barely function. It’s almost unbearable to look back at the symptoms and pain I experienced. Luckily I found michael, and used him as my coach after about a month of suffering.
Michael provided comfort, perspective and hope. I contemplated going back on because I thought I was damaged beyond repair. We discussed and came to the conclusion to keep moving forward. Slowly I started to heal. After awhile, I could function. After more time I started to thrive. I feel no effects as I sit here today. I work, exercise, eat healthy as I can, work on my relationship with God. I’m a very active participant in life. Thank you Michael for the coaching. I still find tremendous peace when watching your videos. Please keep going!
If you are struggling, I recommend using him as a coach.

Any video about traumas? I lost 10 years and cannot find myself again. Afraid of everything much in life. Feels like a child. My personality change completly.

Same. I’m not the same person. It’s very scary. I used to be funny and outgoing. Not anymore. Almost 5 years.

While I completely agree with most of what you are saying about updosing, and now I hold the same rule for myself (hold, adjust pace, don't updose), I also just want to add that during my cross over to diaz I went through a dangerous issue and my doctor told me to go back up on my dose of my original med and retaper it over to diaz more slowly, followed by a hold. If you are ending up in the ER with dangerous symptoms and your doctor is telling you to updose, you should listen. I absolutely was frustrated but in the end it likely saved my life. Unfortunately this requires a knowledgeable taper physician, which I know are in short supply.

Thank you for your videos! Im currently tapering off 11 years of xanax. 3mg down to 2.25 in 6 months. Struggling. I needed this video 🙏 are the neurological issues permanent 😢?

They are not permanent. If I’ve learned anything from Michael’s videos, I’ve learned that healing is 100% possible for everyone.
Getting off of psych meds can be difficult to say the least. Michael had more than a dozen years on Xanax and Paxil, he knows. I have 6 years on them. (3 on antidepressants and 6 on benzos).
The more you worry about not recovering, the more you hinder your own recovery.
Just take it 1 day at a time, plan but don’t hyper focus on your timeline. Just “take care today” as Michael would say.

Tolerance is a huge reason to get off. That’s what happened to me.

You make great points, Mike. For the first time in months, I did take a small updose. Just one dose.
I was going to see my mom and I just wanted to feel a bit better for that. Lo and behold, I didn’t feel all that much great…. Felt kind of disappointed after, like you mentioned.
But it’s in the past. But funny how this video comes out the week after I updosed after not updosing for months.

Thanks for sharing, Jay. You are right, it's in the past. All that matters is how you move forward from this day forward. Keep at it and God bless!
