Great idea using a looper. Keeps everything consistent. Probably the most useful OCD I've looked at yet. You get the point across - how they compare to each other. I'm tired of the lengthy reviews with too many comments and jokes instead of what the video is intended for. Well done.
I have both the Ge and a V1.4. I like them both but, yes, the Ge is slightly lower output, like all Ge transistor pedals are. Nature of the beast. I like the Ge more than the 1.4. I find it to be a tighter low end delivery and more articulate as well. Good demo, thanks
Hal Dumille - great description of their differences. Recently traded a Flashback for a Cmat mod Brownie... LOVE IT. It’s what I wanted to Wampler Sovereign to be. Stay tuned.
Nice job comparing these! There is a common misconception about the "LP" / "HP" switch. It's often thought of as being different than what it is. "HP" means "High Peak", or high headroom, and "LP" means "Low Peak", or low headroom. In the LP position, the decreased headroom increases the natural compression, and results in the lower output you mentioned. The sound is definitely more open in the HP position. Again, great video! Have fun with that Ibanez amp. I love those!
Cool comparison. Now I want both!... Where as before I was looking for an OCD either 1.7 or V2. I need more jobs to pay the freight with these prices! Thanks for doing the comparison....and you have a super cool dog. We are dog people too and used to have 3 rescue dogs at once. (One we found abandoned on the street). We still have rescues to this day. Got to love dogs! Thanks... Phil NYC / Jersey Shore Area
That 1.7 was Special for note definition. Glad I have a v1.7 on my Pedalboard. Just picked up a Barber Electronics Gain Changer S.R. - another killer overdrive.
@@oldguyjammin9732 It's just so versatile. Not a bad sound in there. It's my " Do-All " Dessert Island Overdrive. If you want to go more heavy, - look at the Sinvertek No5+
I’m gonna give my 5 Pennie’s worth of advice. 1. Actual amp 2. Amp settings 3. Guitar settings… including tone and volume(very important)! I’d really like to know these things since I gig and want to know how it will react and stand out. Eg;does the pedal clean up with volume. How’s it sound on bridge, middle or neck! How’s it sound on a clean amp setting compared to an amp breaking up. Extra credit - how’s it sound stacked with other drive pedals!
Being that tone is so subjective very little of all that matters really. I’ll take someone’s opinion over RUclips tone any day. Pick one up from Amazon or GC and return it if you don’t care for it. I’ve since discovered that I like ‘hard clipping ODs’ - knowing that has made the journey much more efficient.
The GE is way smoother while the1.7 is more aggrassive and has more bite. I like the smoothness of the GE more. I ordered both, the 2.0 is already here, the GE will arrive tomorrow. I´m curios if I still gravitate more to the GE when I test it myself in reality. But none the lesse, both are realy great pedals! Maybe I will keep them both for diffent sounds and for staging :)
And then there’s the fact that different pedals react differently with different amps, so for sure… hang on to it. I’ve had “lesser pedals” that become indispensable when used with a different amp. Rock on brother \m/
@@oldguyjammin9732 Exactly 😃 I just have one Amp, a Revv G20 but the same is true for different Guitars, too 😉 I think the GE will fit my Fender Strat with pure vintage 59 SC PUs better while the 2.0 maybe is the better choice for my PRS with Humbuckers ☺️
I have an OCD 1.7. I like it with the drive half way up and a maxon 808 in front of it. On the 808 I have drive all the way down and balance (volume) mostly up so it's basically just a boost. I like the extra midrange thing it adds. That's on a clean AC15.
ultratacoRX7 - I would love an AC15 but can’t get over it being just one channel. My buddy at GC always points me in that direction and keeps saying “this is the amp you should buy” lol.
@@oldguyjammin9732 well technically it has 2 channels haha. I use it mostly as just my clean tone amp and pedal playground. (other amps for other stuff) A friend got one a few years ago and every time I played it I was like "wow this is really nice" but for some reason never got one myself until recently. (I found mine used pretty cheap)
ultratacoRX7 - :) I should have said ‘foot switchable’ I mean, why not? I’ll look at them again, maybe head versions. I’ve had some VOX stuff but always the VT line - liked them. A while back I was really interested in the little AC4s. Thought I’d get down to my local GC this weekend, I’ll check some out!
@@oldguyjammin9732 You could get an AB switch to switch channels but I'm sure how useful that would be since the channels are pretty similar. I have an AC4 too. It's fun by itself and I also like to run it with the AC15 in stereo. :)
Funny how things change....a few weeks ago I told you I was going to limit my pedal consumption. Now today, I suddenly find myself having to get the new JHS PG-14 🤓 I also see you share the secret that Chuck Taylor’s help us play better😎
David Cole - yep, the inevitable GAS overwhelms us from time to time. Buying and selling is so much fun though. Even now I’m thinking “Gosh, I haven’t owned a JHS pedal yet... hmmm” so thanks for that :) what’s a Chuck Taylor?
They all pretty much do the same thing, but the pricier ones do provide lower noise, better decay and higher quality builds. JHS did an awesome video of drive types comparing Germanium type to Silicon type to transistor type - really great!

Anyway, thanks for the pedal swap offers but without playing them I’d be reluctant... I don’t think I have anything worth trading really, things you couldn’t get for 3x the shipping from me to you, know what I mean? Regarding the HK cab. I had one and put it up against a VHT and kept the VHT, cost me $100 vs the $399 I paid for the HK. Harley Benton sells a V30 Cab for less than a V30 will cost you outright, so check that out. The HK cabinet is vented so consider that. I usually like cabs that are a little larger and sealed rather than smaller vented ones. If you have a ‘one of a kind’ pedal that’s been discontinued I’d keep it! 2 weeks, 2months, or 2 years after you get rid of it you’re sure to regret it \m/
