Some uniquely Sydney things to try:
Frangos - Better version of Nando's
El Jannah - Lebanese Charcoal Chicken
Marrickville Pork Roll - One of the best Vietnamese Pork Rolls

    - HSP (from a good kebab store)
    - Banh Mi from either Marrickville pork roll or Top Ryde Bakery

Mate, Aussie food hits different. You will have a flavor blast. Not a lot of foods to call authentically Australian but they do international food extremely well. Definitely get a kebab or HSP (halal snack pack), from local kebab shop, Thai food (Holy Basil - if you're in Sydney), Viet food (so much better than Korea).
Meat pies, sausage rolls, kangaroo steak, lamingtons, anzac cookies, Red Rock Deli chips, craft beer is also top game in Aus.

Red Rooster is an Australian fast food chicken shop. Not great, but it is uniquely Australian.
    You got to try:
    Chicken Parmi from a pub.
    Sausage sizzle from Bunnings.
HSP frim a kebab/yiros shop, especially if you've been drinking.
Burger with the lot (including beetroot and pineapple).
Vanilla slice (commonly known as a Snot Block) from a bakery.

Definitely try one of the "gourmet' angus burgers if you're going to maccas first.
Tbh our food down here is basically just other food cultures combined and imo, served at a higher quality. So try and enjoy some of the more finer produce (Steaks, seafood, wine, etc.)
Or you can dive into more popular and common foods like HSPs, Meat Pies, Banh Mis, Gyros, Fish&Chips and so on. Huge Lebanese, Greek, Italian, Chinese and Vietnamese influence here.

A few suggestions in Sydney but I'm not entirely sure if they're unique to Australia
    ○ Try different coffees at different cafes such as the cold brew at Homage or Circa Espresso in Parramatta (I personally don't drink coffee but the coffee culture here is very strong)
    ○ Sydney Fish Market for a HUGE variety of the freshest seafood (go on a weekday to avoid the rush)
    ○ Daily Delicious Bakery in Cabramatta for the cheapest and best banh mi
    ○ El Jannah - arguably the best charcoal chicken
    ○ Pancakes on the Rocks (in The Rocks - there's a few chains but the OG is the biggest and best imo)
    ○ Don Don Strathfield - for Korean food but you can find a lot of Korean restaurants in Strathfield so it would be interesting if you wanted to compare the food here to the food you're used to
    ○ Levendi in Wollongong if you're planning on going to the beach down there - try their fish and chips!
The weather is gonna be pretty sad for the next few forecasted days so I hope you guys take a jacket with you since it gets kind of cold towards the end of the day. Since you guys are gonna be here for a few weeks I would get familiar with the train system and get an Opal card so you can take advantage of the travel fee caps (also avoid peak hour fees at around 9am and 5pm). Get the app Tripview for easy routing. Most of the places I have suggested are pretty easy to get to from a trainstation so I highly recommend. Be warned that places here close very early when compared to other countries. Most cafes close at 3pm, most shops close at 5pm or 6pm, and dinner spots close at around 9pm or 10pm.

You gotta try the hsp, burgers the aussie way, meat pies and a pub parma when you come down here. Also try an aussie pizza (egg and bacon). You gotta try some snags which are i guess our version of a hotdog. The zinger box from kfc with wicked wings is also a staple. Oh yeah and barramundi is great. Kangaroo steak is a good shout.

It depends where you go, there are specialties all over Australia. Darwin/NT claim to have the best laksa in Australia being close to Asia, bakeries for you hot pastries are everywhere. Adelaide has 3 24/7 bakeries with German influences. Try some indigenous aboriginal cousines hard to get easily but some restaurants in capital cities or arrange with a local peoples to try it. Plenty of kebab places and Greek yiros/gyros but make sure the have horizontal spits on coal. Enjoy!
