Sometimes, you may even find one in an isolated shopping mall whilst stopping for a quick break during a long drive. Greggs will be your best friend in the UK.
Once upon a time Greggs was a bakery where you could buy bread and stuff but now it is mainly a fast food outlet that specialises in beige food items - and it is glorious! Everyone loves a Greggs! Mince pies are a Xmas staple and its illegal to eat them outside of December ;)
Nah can eat minced pies anytime of the year, if shopping stores like Tesco or Asda can sell christmas items in there stores in September, we can have minced pies!
@@katiegnomes I don't know many younger people under 30 who like mince pies. It seems to me, they hate anything with fruit in it. They always go for a rancid chocolate cake at christmas time. eurgh!
As a long time fan of the channel and someone from the UK, I find it incredibly refreshing to see an American with such an open mind when it comes to trying English food! Usually people just assume it is all beige, flavourless crap but you're here fully appreciating it all for what it is
Thing is, American food has LOADS AND LOADS of sugar, additives, fats all sorts, go look at the video on here comparing fast food, fries here have potatoes, salt and the oil its cooked in, over there, it has colourings and all sorts, this is why folk thinks our food tastes bland, they don't know what actual food tastes like without all the sugar and guff. Our food tastes like food.
This was so awesome. As a Brit I loved seeing you enjoy Greggs. The only thing I wish you tried was the Vegan Sausage Roll! It's crazy how good it is. When it dropped it was like national news haha.
I had a vegan sausage roll when I visited the UK last year and it was fantastic, I actually preferred it to the original one! Bought several ones after the first one 😂
Their sausage rolls are a very strange thing. You can definitely get much higher quality ones but the Greggs sausage roll just has so much soul and history about it, that it makes it seem even tastier than it is
Also as someone who has been eating Greggs for 30+ years, the pizzas are decent but the Bakes/Pasties and sausage rolls have been perfected for decades it’s what they’re known for. The sandwiches and oval bites came with the baguettes later, then the pizzas and toasties are more recent. All the pasties have different patterns on the top too, so you can learn them and tell them apart 👍
@@g4rrrrrrrrif you’re Northern you will have definitely had more chance of seeing them, they started in Newcastle as a small independent. I’m in Manchester and my earliest memory of them is probably 5 years old, I’d say the pasties were like 65p and the sausage rolls like 29p or something. It was awesome, sausage rolls were the Toddlers staple meal, just kids going round in prams covered in pastry 😂
What I love about your channel is you eat and film the videos when your actually hungry so you appreciate the food more and you pick out all the flavours and it makes it easier for us to understand how the food is. Great work buddy, showing support from the UK.
Greggs is huuuge in the UK, Primark even made a Greggs line of clothing. Nothing beats a Greggs really, the nostalgia alone and the fact that it holds up today. A true comfort food 💘(the vegan sausage roll is also great!)
As a Scot/Brit.. I have watched many, many video's on "British" food, but.. your reaction to Greggs has been the most wholesome and realistic video I have seen yet.. yes I get other RUclipsr's have reacted, but I just feel that you get the concept better than any of them.. yes,it's a high street chain, but they do decent food at affordable prices.. my go to when I go to Greggs is a sausage roll, a steak bake and a chargrilled chicken oval bite.. I know you didn't review their "sandwiches".. but please try any oval bite..... P.S i just found your video's through this video and you got a new subscriber from that.. looking forward to seeing you in many more video's
Greggs started off in the northeast of England, Newcastle on Tyne. Now they have branches in most towns of any size all over the UK. Most of their products are very tasty. Mostly they use puff pastry which is very buttery but has a gazillion calories
As a South Asian Brit, I gotta admit nothing beats a good cheese and onion pasty in the morning before college, nice and warm and very filling for a good boost of energy to go through the day! Also i agree, the flavour profiles in Britishan food aren't nothing super crazy (beige is a stretch unless we're talking about home "cooks" from here who eat readymade foods from jars and tins and can barely season their food right) but my oh my, a piping hot classic British roast dinner is like a warm hug on a cold winter's day. Britishan food (some of it! I've had a fair share of 'meh' British food in my lifetime) is NOT at all as bad as the memes make it out to be to non British people, in fact you can get many tasty things from here!
Watched a few of your vids and I love to see an American trying the proper English go-to food, so I subbed today. Keep this content coming. You are very watchable - good presentation, not protracted, and straight talking. Good stuff bro, keep it up.

I've never watched this channel before but I have to say: what a voice! If you aren't doing it already, you should definitely be doing voice-over work. Beautiful voice you have 🎉
What I love about Greggs is how it's great for any occasion and is so affordable. Went with my daughter recently and ordered a Vegan Sausage Roll, English tea, pastry (can't remember which) and a fizzy fruit drink - it was just over a fiver. If you'd bought a similar spread in Costa, it would've been comfortably £10-£12. It was also a really comfortable sit-in Greggs so was a really pleasant and satisfying experience all round.
Probably worth another visit if you have time. Get a chicken bake, yum yum, cheese and bacon wrap, vegan sausage roll and sausage bean and cheese melt.
Here in the UK Ben, we regard Greggs as a bit of a National Institution. As far as I'm aware, they don't operate anywhere else apart from the UK, and we feel quite emotional about Greggs, as our own. I've also heard loads of people down the years tell me what lovely and friendly staff work at all the Greggs outlets, so it's always a pleasure to pop in to our local Greggs, and the prices are also very reasonable too, which always helps. 🙋♂ Really glad you loved them too!
@@Who-cu9euFair enough. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but not everyone wants to hear it. Especially your miserable input, because it triggered you that people enjoy something you don’t lol
You can have a bad Greggs, you can have a really good Greggs, the funny thing is that it's entirely up to you which one you have. If you're in a massive rush, maybe avoid greggs so that you aren't disappointed, but if you've got time to spare, all you have to do is wait around for them to bring hot ones out. Best tip I can give, ask the server if what you're wanting is hot, they will check for you. Another tip, if you're after a sandwich and its not there, ask them to make you one. Unlike the pasties and such that come frozen, the sandwiches are actually made fresh in the back.
It’s hit or miss as they aren’t hot counters and can go cold and more stale if you go around 7-1 it’s always fresh as we always run out of food so it’s always cooking and coming out fresh
The reason bakeries are so popular here is because they open at like 6am. Its really quick and easy to eat a hot meal for cheap before work or school. Same for lunch break lol.
i knew the sausage roll would change your life. my favourite is the sausage bean and cheese melt. also the new vegan bbq chicken baguette thing is incredible
I'm not usually into mukbang videos but I love yours. I'm English so it's fun watching an American/Korean? person trying our food out. I love the Greggs sausage rolls - they are the best! Lemme explain what Greggs is - it's basically a commercialized bakery
You need to travel to the north of England and eat in a traditional bakery with real meat pies and real sausage rolls - the family run local bakers blow greggs out of the water !!
I've been going to Greggs my entire 39 years, and I did not know they did toasties. Looks good. I'll be getting one. Glad you liked it. Try the Vegan Sausage Roll and, when it comes for Christmas, the Festive Bake.
I'm from Newcastle, The home of Greggs. We had them to ourselves for decades, great to hear the rest of the UK enjoying them. Up hear we call the Sausage Roll a "Geordie Dummy" Shuts the kids right up.
That's funny what you say. As a kid growing up when we used to go to Sheffield city centre to see the Christmas Lights switched on, the thing that excited me the most every year was getting a sausage roll from Greggs.
I live in Essex we have 3 greggs in our town.i have been loving it since the 90s when they first came here.why have you lot up north been hiding it for so long.greedy buggers.
People love greggs here so much because the food is good and really reasonably priced, you can have a filling lunch for not much money at all. I think we're big on the heavy warm baked goods bc its generally kinda cold here. I remember my friend went to the US for the summer and she was surprised that there wasn't anything similar where she stayed - it was all just regular burger and fried chicken fast food.
The fact you got a Greggs delivered and it’s warm is a revelation in itself, swear you could buy it straight out the oven and it’ll be cold by the time your foot touches the path😂

With regards to Greggs opening abroad, they apparently opened in Belgium 15 years ago but decided to close them down to concentrate on building the UK sales. However, they are now considering doing a trial opening abroad. I think it's just in the planning stages at the moment and die for the popularity of Spain with young British tourists and older expat Brits living there that, in my opinion may be the first place for a trial. If you think Koreans would love it perhaps you could write to their head office and suggest it.
I love the crisp autumn afternoon walk description on the sausage roll, Greggs sausage rolls are legit amazing - so simple but the hidden ingredients hit hard
The great thing about walking while eating greggs sausage rolls or anything else - particularly the patries but greggs is all flakey and crumby stuff so you feed the birds too. Sharing is caring :D
The funniest thing is I spotted this video while I was eating a ham and egg sandwich from Greggs haha. Their cold sandwiches are fantastic as well, I'm so glad you enjoyed what you had! Totally need to get a Festive Bake closer to Christmas, they sell out so fast at my local lol.
Also, on the subject of cheese in the steak bake, they used to do a steak and cheese roll (similar to the sausage roll size/form/price wise but it had steak and i believe stilton cheese inside) and it was probably the best thing greggs made for a while. If you're about in the UK for Christmas, make sure to check out the Festive bake, it's like a chicken bake on crack
I've been enjoying eating the festive bakes over the last couple of weeks. EARLY ACCESS BITCHES haha. But to be honest i can't stand stilton but the stake and stilton roll was on point
During winter, last year at least, they had Yum Yums in chunks heated up with a hot caramel sauce. Honestly so good even if was very messy. They did the same with cookies, but because it was new, the guy making it wasn’t too sure, messed it up and then just gave it us for free which was very kind of them.
I love how you ate the toastie and at first was like "ehhhh this is okay but a bit too bready" until you then went and got some of the middle and then went back to the crust and was like "ah you know what, that was good" 😂 youre making a lot of English people happy with this video trusssssst me 😂
Hi BenDeen, I'm glad you are enjoying your stay in London, UK. You have to try Hobson's Fish and Chips near Tottenham Court Road Station, very British and traditional. Burger and Beyond in Soho food is amazing! You should try a traditional British Sunday roast at any pub near you, try the roast beef , Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, peas, carrots and gravey, this meal is a traditional Sunday meal for families. British love roast meals, roast chicken, roast lamb with potatoes, veg and gravey. My favourite place near where you are staying is Great Thai the food is delicious and there's a cafe next door which is part of their chain that does nice matcha cakes, lattes and pastries, the chicken pastries and spinach pastries are AWESOME!!!
It's funny to me as Ben pointed out that America doesn't really have food like that. Mainly because when a restaurant gets popular it branches out then after a little while they try to expand internationally. Like I always think of Fatburger where there isn't even that many in the US but they probably have just as many locations in other countries than they do in the US.
Greggs seems to be slowly getting a lot of international recognition. Over the last decade it has done really well in the UK but I wonder if it is time to go worldwide? Maybe it has already I don't know, you could see these in all the major airports as a start for example. Greggs appears to be doing really well! And why not it is good food at a decent price and quality.
Aw maaaan, this is the first video ive watched of yours. So rad you like Gregg's! It's definitely a gem here in the UK. Love Greggs! Mince pies are a very intense flavour, I only really eat them at Xmas when they are a little warm and with a bit of single cream poured over it. The cream helps blend the flavours more in a gentle way. Some people like just a scoop of vanilla ice cream with them also or rum butter.
This video made me sub. I’m absolutely obsessed with the pizzas and I don’t know why because I know they aren’t the best in comparison to restaurant/takeaway pizzas but I have a soft spot for them, and the chicken bakes BOSH

As a long time fan of the channel and someone from the UK, I find it incredibly refreshing to see an American with such an open mind when it comes to trying English food! Usually people just assume it is all beige, flavourless crap but you're here fully appreciating it all for what it is
It's fuckin greggs though 😂
Thing is, American food has LOADS AND LOADS of sugar, additives, fats all sorts, go look at the video on here comparing fast food, fries here have potatoes, salt and the oil its cooked in, over there, it has colourings and all sorts, this is why folk thinks our food tastes bland, they don't know what actual food tastes like without all the sugar and guff. Our food tastes like food.

Greggs is huuuge in the UK, Primark even made a Greggs line of clothing. Nothing beats a Greggs really, the nostalgia alone and the fact that it holds up today. A true comfort food 💘(the vegan sausage roll is also great!)

Greggs started off in the northeast of England, Newcastle on Tyne. Now they have branches in most towns of any size all over the UK. Most of their products are very tasty. Mostly they use puff pastry which is very buttery but has a gazillion calories
You tell them, someone on here is in denial about it.
None in bude thank god😅
They have multiple branches in most towns. I remember in Leeds you could see another Greggs when standing at the door of one! Gotta love a pasty!
Greggs used to be called Thurstons in Leeds, until it was rebranded and taken over. I could buy a cheese & onion pasty for 15p!
Lucozade was also started by the Geordies ❤️
As a South Asian Brit, I gotta admit nothing beats a good cheese and onion pasty in the morning before college, nice and warm and very filling for a good boost of energy to go through the day! Also i agree, the flavour profiles in Britishan food aren't nothing super crazy (beige is a stretch unless we're talking about home "cooks" from here who eat readymade foods from jars and tins and can barely season their food right) but my oh my, a piping hot classic British roast dinner is like a warm hug on a cold winter's day. Britishan food (some of it!
