I put this song squarely at Number 1 Skynyrd song. I loved it the very first time I heard it back in jr high, still do, it has more spice than all the others. Never seen it get this much expert attention. It is one of about 3 songs that led me to pick up a guitar 50+ years ago. Thank You.

I first heard this song and thought immediately, this is the best song from Skynyrd I’ve heard (and still is my favorite all time song period), and so started learning this song from audio around 4 months ago or so. I got the basis of how it sounded, obviously nowhere close to being right, but then I get into looking at a tutorial and from my knowledge not one person had a tutorial until I saw you. And my sir, you made the best tutorial and I can confidentially say I can play this song in front of 5 people maximum and still sound great. So thank you so much Mr. Raines, you got me further into Skynyrd with all your tutorials! Much thanks from me 🙏🕊️

  • @jeffro.
    @jeffro. 9 месяцев назад

It's amazing how good those musicians were at that early age.
A lot of people don't realize it, but it makes a real difference when recording. That is, how much the different guitar parts change, depending on whether other instruments are playing, or the vocalist (Ronnie in this instance) is singing.
The guitarists will essentially play the same chord sequence, but in one case they'll play extra fill notes, or else they won't.
Or they'll play a catchy lick, or else it's more simplified.
Its like the difference between playing the lower strings in a chord vs just the upper ones, bc in cases where there are other instruments, you don't want to "muddy" the register. (I think that's how to say it.)
Anyway, every song they recorded was a masterpiece of arranging and performing.
They were very talented, and it's awesome that they found each other.

This Yankee heard the intricacies of this song and the distinct Southern feel of every one of Skynyrd’s songs and was sold for life. Billy Powell just boogey woogies his part of it. Scott, did Ed King create this riff?
Seemed like Allen always played his leads damn near on the pickups. Man I miss all those guys. Your keeping their songs alive with Artimus and Bob. Thanks man!

Mr. Raines, sorry to bother you sir. Your version of 'Coming Home' with Mr. Burns is amazing. I mean absolutely amazing. I would love to hear you do 'On The Hunt'. I have searched and I can only find Mr. Durden covering the vocals on this track. I personally think you should cover this track. I would also like to mention that I been a Skynyrd fan all my life. The true fans in my opinion adore songs like Mr. Banker, Searching, Four Walls Of Railford,....and etc. I will never understand why you guys never cover their greatest treasures. I would also like to mention that I think Ronald Wayne Van Zant would have been honored to have you on vocals. Thank you and the rest of your band mates for carrying on the legacy. I would also like to mention I mean not disrespect towards Mr. Durden either, I think he does a terrific job as well. I am actually a Audio/Video Design Engineer who is right down the road. You gentleman ever need a hand feel free to reach out. I will be more than happy to slap the board around a bit,...... 8D

Thanks dude ! Of course I was playing this kinda' close ,but ,you just gave me the keys to the kingdom ! This really might be their best . I always leaned to Steve ,but the more I analyze it & now !! ,the more I am awed by Ed . I realized how nuts he really was after watching him in 87' on the tribute gigs as much as it kind of pissed me off after the first agreed on tour dates was extended. That was shocking (Ed's playing). This song is really a pain in the ass , and actually just as ripping as anything off SS , thanks to him ! Much appreciated though. It feels so good to play it correctly finally ! With the 3 guitar army & Phyco bass just tearing your brain apart ,it is easy to discern who is doing what sometimes . Really Great lesson .

JJ, I suppose they were considered a band and they were more of a team assault. They really should have gotten more credit as individual guitarists, I think. Their work was nothing short of genius in my opinion.

I love your channel, Skynyrd is my favorite band. I'd love to get to see APB someday. I wanted to request a song if you have time to make a lesson on it. I'm currently learning Things Goin On and I'm having a hard time with the solo, if you'd be able to make a lesson I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you for all the lessons.

Thank you so much sir !!! I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can from your videos. Thank you !! ......now ....not to sound ungrateful but I honestly have 1 request .....T for Texas, the live version .....I think it was a Roger Miller (?) but the way those 3 guys came together .....it was amazing !!!! If you ever get the time, it would be greatly appreciated. If not......I understand. I still and always will appreciate everything you teach us out here. 🙌🏼 THANK YOU AGAIN SIR !

Scott, been playing Skynyrd tunes a long time. I have gained better insight to their songs thanks to your tutorials. Was looking for your tutorial for “Roll Gypsy Roll”. Didn’t see one. I play a rudimentary version of it. Would love to see your rendition as a tutorial. Thanks and keep rocking with APB.

You're welcome Scott! I can't wait to see you guys again. It's been too darn long!! I think I was seeing y'all about 5 times a year since 2014 and then this Covid stuff just messed up everything. APB live is long overdue for me!! Tell everyone I said hello

What the chance you could do a lesson on “Things goin on”. One of my favorite songs. Found plenty of stuff on the intro to the song but I’m trying to figure out the solo too. Thanks

Scott. Love All your videos. I was on RLC #1. Seems like a long time ago. There were lots of bands, but the biggest thrill was seeing the APB out on the pool deck. I remember talking to Tony Black in the fitness room. I have been a BIG fan of you and all of the APB. Thank you for Keeping the music of Ronnie and LS alive.

Thank you so much, William! That was a huge event for us as well as being on all of them since. I remember playing the deck at night in the wind. I felt like I was in The Police Synchronicity video!

Great job Scott ! thank you for getting so involved with all the fills, gnarly - narts and other subtle nuances. Ronnie & those LS Boyz didn't mess around, the average listener doesn't realize how finely crafted all these tunes are. They definitely had the right chemistry we're very creative well-disciplined and did their homework! That's why chances are slim will never hear another band come close , except maybe of course APB!!! Thanks again, also could you do Lend a Helping Hand? much appreciated ✌️🐾 JF

Looks like you haven't made a video in a while. Been loving your content as I learn some of these old tunes. Would love to see I Need You done with all the parts if you ever come back to it. That song is in my top 5 Skynyrd tunes. Such a great groove tune.

At 11:33, play like Allen and Randall Hall did. So much easier. F on the 10th fret, to D 12th fret, back to F and G, 12th fret. Easier with 2 frets, rather than 7
