Great review Brad, as an artist I have to be honest, if you have an older iPad you are gonna be completely fine, you don't need to have the "newest and greatest" to make art. A tool will not make you better, only practice..
"who's gonna use that many layers?" With normal drawings, I average at 20, but making comic pages for print could go about 50 or higher. Each dialogue bubble if you use text tools is at least 2 layers each, text and bubble being separate for easy of editing. Then there's the artwork in each panel being several layers each. A 600dpi 5.5" x 7.5" canvas for comic printing maxes out at 6 layers on the 6th gen iPad. An iPad pro would probably increase that capacity to maybe 30 layers tops and that's very much appreciated (in still waiting for my pro to come in the mail, i blew my savings on one for comic art)! The largest possible canvas on the 2020 ipad pro in Procreate 5X is... I think it was 4 layers!!!
I have this IPad and I recommend for your iPad is to have a matte screen protector, the screen protector feels like your drawing on paper and makes it much smoother when your drawing.
i was between ipad 8th gen and ipad pro 2020 to do my digital work and also other stuff. BUT just beacause i'm gonna need a new macbook for my design works and for 3D studio, i cant afford both ipad pro and a macbook (total: 2.5K euros, lol no) so i decided to buy this affordable ipad to make my sketches instead of the ipad pro. In that way i can have both an ipad and a new macbook.
I just ordered this device and now I’m feeling better about my choice. I was considering the new Air but I’m not a power user when it comes to iPads or Chromebooks so I think using the $170 savings for a keyboard case was the right move. Thanks for sharing your perspective
I recently bought the iPad Pro 10.5” 2017 for around the same price as this new iPad. Thank you Brad for suggesting it to me in one of your old videos!
Wife and I had to downsize into an RV. The lack of space and storage in this thing meant ditching my desktop AND laptop. Went with this iPad and gen1 pencil and never looked back. A wireless NAS is a MUST, however.
Something that isn’t mentioned here! This iPad is the only one in the lineup that does not have Wide Color Display (P3). If that matters to you (you’ll have more brighter colors) then you may have to reconsider.
Love your vids, but maybe one little suggestion for some of these videos. Because honestly on this iPad as it’s basically the same as last years with a spec boost, maybe good to do some more stress tests. Because charging, design, screen qualities we can all look up in your last review, maybe show us what two generations of chip upgrades show us. So maybe show the limit of layers, painting with huge brush sizes. ArtRage and Paint storm studio are usually not that well optimised so it’s easier to see the difference there. I 100% agree with the entry level iPad and tab s6 lite you can’t really have an excuse for a bad drawing. I love my iPad Pro, but honestly it’s just minor conveniences that add up, and it’s only valuable because I can afford it and it’s for work.
I GOT MINE!!!! 1 week ago and i can say this i got the 32 gb model + 1st gen apple pencil and i use it for drawing, sketching, notability, netflix, Amazon prime, 2 games, doing some words and ppts and answering mails It does all of this like a freaking beast!!!!!! the ipad pro is way to overrated and op if youre worried about space get yourself some icloud but overall best decision of my life!! word of advide: get yourself a bluetooth keyboard (smart keyboard way to overpriced save that money por the 1st gen apple pencil) and a folder like protector!!! and you have yourself the worlds portable laptop
Man would you please review the new iPad Air I just wanna see what’s going on with it it’s so close to the iPad Pro that only difference that you can spot is just the 120 Hz display on the pro otherwise like the iPad Pro is lower on it’s tip because the iPad Air is A14 Bionic chip instead of the A12
In many ways, "old" style ipads are better overall creative tools and consumer devices. For artists, the apple pencil gen 1 has the annoying charging issue, but it's more a minor nuisance than a real issue. The older style ipads ALSO have a headphone jack, which is a godsend for digital musicians, as bluetooth audio has too much latency for useful real time playing Furthermore, many of the advantages of the usb c ipads have alternatives for the lightning ipads, such as wireless HDD converters(like the ravpower hub) which allow you to wirelessly stream your offline media to your ipad. In fact, even when I had an ipad pro, I still used the wireless option because ipados still doesn't allow apps to directly access attached storage, whereas apps like VLC can still access your wireless HDDs
The thing is, ipad costs sht around same as a tablet, like ipad in india, 2019, costs around 30k, without apple pencil that is. So even if I buy a diff stylus which is good for another 3-4k, so I just went with xp pen artist 13.3, which still costed me like double of, legit, 35k inr, which is like 475 usd $, I feel cheated-.-
Its really not fair deal in India... I'm planning to buy this one and i might go for 128 GB varient..and that one is 38K and in dollars its 515$...and including pencil final price will be 615$ 😑😑 Btw U have 32 GB varient right? Is it enough? And how about xp pen u r using does it works as good as apple pencil?
Well.. I’m also from India (currency used is Indian currency don’t get this confused with dollars I was too lazy to find the price in usd dollars) I got the iPad 2019, I think 7th gen (idk). The iPad was 50k and the Apple Pencil was 10k. The screen protector was 3k. (it wasn’t the matte one, cause my Apple Pencil tip would get damaged and I don’t want to change it every 2 months.) And the iPad case was 1k. So I totally spent 64k. If you don’t want to spend a TON of money on the iPad, the Samsung S6 or 7 would be better. I personally love my iPad. The Apple Pencil charges in 10 minutes and lasts for 3-4 hours, and that’s good, even if that means you have to charge it in a really awkward way. The iPad software is amazing. There’s a bunch of different features in the Notes app which make the experience more enjoyable Procreate is amazing :) And a bunch more features that I didn’t include because I was too lazy to type them ;) You don’t need the fancy iPad Pro 2020, the magic keyboard, the mouse etc. You don’t need a 12.9 inch screen to be a good artist. My iPad size is some where about 10.5-11 inches, but I still love it and I’m able to create some nice art with it. If you don’t want to spend 64k (Indian currency, pretty much a hell lot of money) on this iPad, you can go for the Samsung s6 or 7 with the Samsung pen thingy, (I think that’s what they are called correct me if I’m wrong I’m not a Samsung user) a graphic tablet with a graphic stylus or some thing like that , or a basic Android tablet and a stylus if you’re really cheap. So overall, I love the iPad, you might love something else, and this is a looooooong comment.
Ooo I actually got here early, thank you so much I love your reviews I’m new to digital art and you have definitely helped me out, forever greatfull 🥺👌💖
Same. I never really saved anything on my tablet though. Used it mainly as a media device (for streaming) and just transferred files to or from the tablet, if I needed them for temporary use. I'm sure many people would find that very inconvenient, but personally I was actually glad that this way it didn't get as cluttered as my phone or computer lol.
Can always upgrade it after owning it for a while as long as you're not rough with it. That's what I plan to do if I find myself with extra money and a lapse of judgement. (Drools at iPad Pro) I got the base model for $300 (some sale thing I found at Best Buy) and could upgrade down the road by selling this for a good return.
I never used any of Apple's products, but I want to get into digital drawing and I'm thinking about getting the iPad 8. This video just made me wanna get it more :D
@@Karthik-jz4nr Personally as someone who's making a comic right now, CSP is covering all my needs. Although I would love for more apps to migrate, or to just be created for Android.
TBH I didn't notice the clicking noise until someone pointed it out. In general, I'm quite satisfied with my new iPad. The charging method for the pencil is a bit... awkward. But else, I'm happy. It makes for a good experience for someone who's used to paint and draw on real paper.
WHY DO PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SOUND HONESTLY WHO THE HELL TAPS THEIR SCREEN NORMALLY??? I do digital art for college on ipad 6 (2018) and i absolutely n e v e r cared enough like yall ever make a dot, hear a tap, and suddenly you give up drawing?? OBVIOUSLY NO.
Thank you for the great review. Do you think that the Ipad Air 3 is still a reasonable alternative due to the laminated screen and the 64 GB of storage?
Both have the same specs, the only difference is iPad air 3 have laminated screen & bigger storage for the based model (cmiiw).. if I have the money I'd rather buy the air 😂
The main difference, from my point of view, is the laminated display, that is useful for a better drawing experience. Moreover, the iPad 2020 has 32 GB of storage, in the basic version. The iPad 3 has 64 GB of storage
I really want to have it to the start of my first semester around September/Oktober and I have to save the money for my own. The pro is definitely too expensive, so I am thinking about getting either the 8th gen or the air :)
hey brad Im sorry this is not related to the ipad but I really wanna buy the huion kamvas 13 2020 but I heard that huion products doesn't last long is this true tho? (im sorry if i said something wrong, english is not my main language)
No Huion products used to be really bad... *USED TO* . Ive used a Kamvas 13 (not mine) and it's has really good build quality it will last you long👍 Infact I feel it has a better build quality than the Wacom one(which is more plasticy)
i bought the kamvas 13 recently and it was really nice to use but i actually returned it to buy this 8th gen ipad solely because of portability. the build quality was really nice though, i'd recommend it if you'll be having it set up all the time.
I loved this review!!!, This is the IPad that im getting for Christmas AND it has 128 GB of storage, as an Artist I really cannot wait until it gets here! and finally be able to use procreate!
The tab s6 lite is actually better than this iPad. More storage, pen included, it runs android (more stable and functional os), has a fully functional file manager etc. the list goes on.
NOVA Havinskiy android is just a better os, please try it out, you’ll see what I mean. I have nothing against apple, I’m even planning on buying the iPad Air and iPhone 12 when released. iOS is buggy and you can’t deny this.
@@codeopold8241 tbh, procreate is good but it's not "spend an extra 100-200 for extra storage and a stylus good". I have an iPad for work and an android tablet for media consumption and I'm planning to pick up an s6 lite for reading, watching movies and casual art soon to replace my current android. The biggest reason being that the s6 lite seems comparable in terms of drawing experience on the entry level iPad and you can expand the storage. But from drawing on both of my current tablets, the only real advantage to procreate are the cool features like drag to drop a colour which is just a fancy take on the fill/bucket tool, and palm rejection which the s6 lite has (not as good as iPad but an artist glove solves that issue). So the iPad is better, but not by enough to justify how much extra you would have to pay. If you're still determined to get an iPad for art but you want something right now, then I'd say buy the android and have it last a yr or 2 and use that time to save enough for something like an air (you really don't need a pro unless you're a professional artist), or go without either for a few months until you have enough saved for an air (or pro if that's your thing, but I can't stress enough how unnecessary it is unless you're going to be doing stuff like professional art and video editing).
Hurts less if you buy the 64GB Samsung compared to 32GB iPad in the USA vs Europe or the UK. We still pay more than the USA but the Samsung is a far cheaper deal.
I'm hoping to get this for Christmas so I was very excited to see you made a review on it! I'm trying not to get my hopes up for it because it's still expensive, but I've been really wanting an ipad for drawing! And I plan to buy the Adonit Note+ instead of the Apple Pencil, it's half the price and the only big downside is that pressure sensitivity doesn't work with procreate, but it does with some other apps.
Thanks for the review on an item I purchased yesterday lol. I have other high end devices, and recently traded in a iPad Pro 10.5 to get the newest Mac Mini M1, good decision. I’ll be leaving the USA for a few months and don’t want to carry a big monitor on the trip, so got this iPad to be a mobile travel monitor for it. Still have my original Apple Pencil, and yes I hate the feel of glass and plastic, so receiving a “paper” like matte screen protector tomorrow. Learning how to draw, and will use my Galaxy Tab S6 and SPen, but as you said the apps aren’t really on android, and I already have Procreate, so I can use both devices. Once again thank you
Apple has given up on flagship range entirely as they simply cannot compete with anything on market now. Their only hope and entire strategy is services and subscription. Iphone 12 still won't be able to compete already existing huawei and samsung phones and ipad 8 and air 2020 are just great entry-mid range devices but no match to tab s7+ giant ( specially with them just going for reusing those horrible hard plastic 0 traction apple pencils 1 and 2 )

1 week ago and i can say this
i got the 32 gb model + 1st gen apple pencil and i use it for drawing, sketching, notability, netflix, Amazon prime, 2 games, doing some words and ppts and answering mails
It does all of this like a freaking beast!!!!!! the ipad pro is way to overrated and op if youre worried about space get yourself some icloud but overall best decision of my life!!
word of advide: get yourself a bluetooth keyboard (smart keyboard way to overpriced save that money por the 1st gen apple pencil) and a folder like protector!!! and you have yourself the worlds portable laptop
"The other DRAWback..."
Mines coming tomorrow and I'm super excited!
YES, I'VE BEEN WAITING. WAITING SND WAITING FOR THIS REVIEW!!! NOW IT'S OUT!!!
This answered all my questions the only problem seems to be the storage with me
Brad, the tech wizard, is at it again.
okay but that clacking is so satisfying to me
Man would you please review the new iPad Air I just wanna see what’s going on with it it’s so close to the iPad Pro that only difference that you can spot is just the 120 Hz display on the pro otherwise like the iPad Pro is lower on it’s tip because the iPad Air is A14 Bionic chip instead of the A12
In many ways, "old" style ipads are better overall creative tools and consumer devices. For artists, the apple pencil gen 1 has the annoying charging issue, but it's more a minor nuisance than a real issue. The older style ipads ALSO have a headphone jack, which is a godsend for digital musicians, as bluetooth audio has too much latency for useful real time playing
Furthermore, many of the advantages of the usb c ipads have alternatives for the lightning ipads, such as wireless HDD converters(like the ravpower hub) which allow you to wirelessly stream your offline media to your ipad.
I'm planning to buy this one and i might go for 128 GB varient..and that one is 38K and in dollars its 515$...and including pencil final price will be 615$ 😑😑
Btw
U have 32 GB varient right? Is it enough?
And how about xp pen u r using does it works as good as apple pencil?
Well.. I’m also from India (currency used is Indian currency don’t get this confused with dollars I was too lazy to find the price in usd dollars)
I got the iPad 2019, I think 7th gen (idk).
There’s a bunch of different features in the Notes app which make the experience more enjoyable
Procreate is amazing :)
And a bunch more features that I didn’t include because I was too lazy to type them ;) You don’t need the fancy iPad Pro 2020, the magic keyboard, the mouse etc.
Thank you I just ordered it for my birthday
Ooo I actually got here early, thank you so much I love your reviews I’m new to digital art and you have definitely helped me out, forever greatfull 🥺👌💖
Thanks for the review. I am writing from my new iPad 8th gen that I have bought after seeing your review. Thanks man.
guess what? I've managed to somehow live on 16 gigabytes for over 5 years XD
nice joke
(Drools at iPad Pro)
I got the base model for $300 (some sale thing I found at Best Buy) and could upgrade down the road by selling this for a good return.
I never used any of Apple's products, but I want to get into digital drawing and I'm thinking about getting the iPad 8. This video just made me wanna get it more :D
i love that ipad 8th im going to buy in 2021 can wait i have patient to wait
Anyways he hasn't started wearing a cowboy hat.😊
I love his reviews.
Got one today through my school, sad that it has restrictions but the apple pencil is great
tab s6 lite gang here! Just the fact that I never have to charge my pen is a huge plus for me.
Lol but not having Procreate,Calipeg, etc is HUGE Minus too... :( Hope that improves!
You can’t compere the Apple Pencil with the sumsung one
+ u get laminated screen!
I use it only for notes and pdf reading so it's great
@@Karthik-jz4nr Personally as someone who's making a comic right now, CSP is covering all my needs.
Just bought it yesterday, i only use it for simple things lol
Ohh Brad thank you so much....for reviewing this.. I'll be going for this ipad...i feel like this is the best for me...thank you so much..🙂
WHY DO PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SOUND HONESTLY
WHO THE HELL TAPS THEIR SCREEN NORMALLY??? I do digital art for college on ipad 6 (2018) and i absolutely n e v e r cared enough like yall ever make a dot, hear a tap, and suddenly you give up drawing?? OBVIOUSLY NO.
It's a comparison not a complaint
Lmfaoo
😂😂😂😂
I have headphones on so doesn't even bother me
i will be trying to use this for school, that will definitely be annoying for other students
I was waiting for this exact video
Thanks man love your content ❤
Thank you for the great review. Do you think that the Ipad Air 3 is still a reasonable alternative due to the laminated screen and the 64 GB of storage?
Both have the same specs, the only difference is iPad air 3 have laminated screen & bigger storage for the based model (cmiiw).. if I have the money I'd rather buy the air 😂
@@piepie3178 my be on the next black Friday or cyberMonday🤔...
Air 3 has A7 chip? It has A12 !! Theres no difference? Confused
The main difference, from my point of view, is the laminated display, that is useful for a better drawing experience. Moreover, the iPad 2020 has 32 GB of storage, in the basic version. The iPad 3 has 64 GB of storage
@@TuttoIlCatania but ipad air 3 costs a lot more as compared? Idk should i even consider pro 10.5 inch?
Saving for a new iPad :D my parents may be able to pay for half and im planning to get an apple pencil for christmas/birthday :3 wish me luck!
Is it even worth getting the iPad 8th gen when the iPad 6th, or actually 7th exist
Pls do a iPad air
When he said all of the world classes about the Apple Pencil, he said that before in one of his vids, I just forgot which one
Great video again! Thanks because your videos are so helpful. I am looking for a iPad for art but prices here in Colombia are so high.
Can't wait for the S7+ (longer term) review!!!
thanks, brad you answered all my questions!
imagine having the money for it :(
I really want to have it to the start of my first semester around September/Oktober and I have to save the money for my own. The pro is definitely too expensive, so I am thinking about getting either the 8th gen or the air :)
i bet, there’s no big difference between pro ,air and regular ipad:) they all work good. the only difference is size of the screen
hey brad Im sorry this is not related to the ipad but I really wanna buy the huion kamvas 13 2020 but I heard that huion products doesn't last long is this true tho?
(im sorry if i said something wrong, english is not my main language)
Me too but that model isn't available in india
No Huion products used to be really bad... *USED TO* . Ive used a Kamvas 13 (not mine) and it's has really good build quality it will last you long👍
Infact I feel it has a better build quality than the Wacom one(which is more plasticy)
i bought the kamvas 13 recently and it was really nice to use but i actually returned it to buy this 8th gen ipad solely because of portability. the build quality was really nice though, i'd recommend it if you'll be having it set up all the time.
@@Karthik-jz4nr from where u bought is it available in india
@@shashanksharma4376 probably from Amazon
Man your drawings are satisfying!!
Aaaaaaa I just bought a 7th generation this year, still liking it tho for drawing!
JUST THE VIDEO I NEEDED
I haven’t watched you in a while Brad - your name is different. I was confused at first lmao
I loved this review!!!, This is the IPad that im getting for Christmas AND it has 128 GB of storage, as an Artist I really cannot wait until it gets here! and finally be able to use procreate!
Hi! I'm wondering, how has the experience been for you so far with this iPad?
what was the storage size required for the development of the art made in the video?
Idk but if you get 32 GB i recommend you getting google photos it saves you tons of storage especially it also saves them forever
Just ordered this Ipad, and i'm really excited :)
i just can't stick with screen without lamination.
Stragith no no for me
This iPad/pencil combo is a steal.
The tab s6 lite is actually better than this iPad. More storage, pen included, it runs android (more stable and functional os), has a fully functional file manager etc. the list goes on.
I have to decide between the ipad 8 and the tab s6 lite.
The s6 lite is a great Deal but I want to use procreate and goodnotes....
Ipad os is stable as well, android is mess IMHO
Codeopold then go with iPad that’s not a hard decision, I’m also using an iPad Air 3 so I definitely know that you will not be disappointed
My only problem is price of apple, it's important to calculate the price if that pen, especially because it's prone to break a lot
The way the 32GB model is €365 ($425) in Europe 😭
Hurts less if you buy the 64GB Samsung compared to 32GB iPad in the USA vs Europe or the UK. We still pay more than the USA but the Samsung is a far cheaper deal.
Like 450 here in Iceland.
Its not really Expensive
Chalkie Face Samsung looks like it has lag when drawing though, and no apps like Procreate..
It’s 329 usd here in America
I'm hoping to get this for Christmas so I was very excited to see you made a review on it! I'm trying not to get my hopes up for it because it's still expensive, but I've been really wanting an ipad for drawing! And I plan to buy the Adonit Note+ instead of the Apple Pencil, it's half the price and the only big downside is that pressure sensitivity doesn't work with procreate, but it does with some other apps.
32GB based is kinda useless tbh.
yeah it is absolute useless for an artist
And remove 17GB of pre-installed apps and OS so that's just 15gb
Iphone 12 still won't be able to compete already existing huawei and samsung phones and ipad 8 and air 2020 are just great entry-mid range devices but no match to tab s7+ giant ( specially with them just going for reusing those horrible hard plastic 0 traction apple pencils 1 and 2 )
You can get the 2017 10.5 inch ipad pro for cheap. It's got good specs and 120 hrz refresh rate. Processor still holds up too. I'm looking into buying one
...ayeee, a darker skinned character. Cool. 🔥🔥
You answer all my questions! Thanks for that ✌️
I have an ipad 7. I’m a novice when it comes to digital art. My ipad is starting to get sluggish when I open a new canvas. Brad you may have convinced me to get the ipad 8.
Thinking about getting this for school
