Android developer here 😊 one of the most common reasons tablet versions of apps looks like a hot mess is a two-fold problem. Previously it was kind of a pain in the butt for android to make good tablet layouts, the tooling for developers was just subpar when compared to iOS and their constraint system. With jetpack compose in android, this is actually much less of an issue. Google is also pushing developers more to support aspect agnostic layouts because there is a rise in foldable devices, and they suffer when apps are poorly designed for a flexible experience.
The second half of the problem is lack of buy in from leadership on supporting android devices. The absolute best thing you can do to get a better tablet experience is complain and send feedback on these apps to those companies so they know people actually care about it.

I think Google sees foldables as the next big thing similar to phablets becoming the majority. Saw in Mkbhd video that Google is going to give more visibility to Tablet optimised apps in Play store. THAT'S HUGE. Not to mention Android L, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tab, Samsung's work in tablet space. I believe big screen Android is getting even more better in very near future

I am fully biased for Windows, Samsung and Android, however for artistic purpose the Apple pro is fully tailored for this: More nits (brighter outdoor) it has true color P3 IPS with 264 ppi at 120hz Retina, pushed with double the performance power in that m2 chip, that just blows Samsung out of the water for once, it has one of the most fluid, smooth and dedicated drawing apps Procreate (that can handle big projects) so no 3rd party software and hardware is needed.. Battery inside the pencil makes sure the pen has way less parallax than the Samsung pen (compared in many videos) and when it comes to drawing both screen and pen integration, is of key importance to have the best drawing feeling, the Apple pen itself has better weight, balance and control than the s-pen, overall the Apple is more compact which is another big thing when it comes to portability, instead of lurking some kind of flat screen along with you in your bus ride home and needing to bring your glove at all times.. Apple has better anti glare coating and is fingerprint resistant and to top it off it comes with a whopping couple hours better battery life, that also goes hand in hand with the portability you want to expect from a tablet drawing device.. I am on the fence and hate to say that Samsung is tailored more towards the everyday users and generic features tablets have to offer, but for artists I can see very clearly that Apple is designed to focus that market.. I will always be biased for Windows computers and Samsung smartphones, but I would actually consider the Ipad pro to be the best overall digital standalone drawing tool..

I think it is important to note, which you kind of did by mentioning dex, is that the app scaling problem is basically fixable by using dex and/or multitasking modes which will scale the app down to a more mobile-sized window. It isn't perfect, and hopefully there will be better full screen support for larger screened devices soon but in the meanwhile I feel like that's a pretty good fix for the time being.

Just sold my iPad pro12.1 and iPad mini, They were the latest, and I am getting a Galaxy Tab S9+, keeping my iPhone 13 mini but getting a new Z Flip, switching Apple watch for Galaxy Watch 6. All this change started with the iPads, everyone's says "iPad apps are better" and yes, but only if you are a video or photo editor, basically a content creator, I`m not, I`,m a consultant I travel, receive documents, and sometimes edit them on the go with a tablet, Ipad displays are OK nothing special but most of my coworkers made the switch, Android got excellent handling apps, displays are waaaay better, look better, and they are overall more funn to use, and I can do the same, watching movies on the go, use as a second display, read and create documents, and the pen is waaaays better than apple pencil.

It was a constant joyless pain to use. Finally ater realising that Procreate is anyway not my preferred painting app and Nomad Sculpt runs great on Android too, I ditched it for the Samsung S8 Ultra and now S9 ultra. Suddenly using a Tablet is so much pure joy and fun and constantly inviting to get creative work done on it. Extra Bonus: I can use the same pens I use for drawing on the tablet to draw also on my Samsung phone as well as on my laptop screen that happens to use the same wacom emr tech. As a dev friend has told me “it is just easier to develop apps for apple products because it is only apples products where as android has way too many products” and to put that at into perspective over 600 android phones were launched last year that doesn’t include tablets or watches. That’s only phones. All running a different version of android. He has told me that is the problem with android. It is not that they don’t want to. It is that it is extremely hard and expensive when apple products are easy to dev for. There is no wall around apps unlike for products of apples.

Wacom not including a stylus should rightfully be slammed, because any Wacom tablet without a pen is completely useless. They're specifically for art. It's great that Samsung includes the pens in the box, but the idea that Apple can be compared to Wacom in that respect is a little disingenuous. Neither Samsung nor Apple's tablets cater specifically to artists (unlike Wacom). Microsoft doesn't include the pen with their surface laptops either. Doesn't make them useless.

I think Samsung has finally caught Apple here honestly. I mean the screen is unmatched OLED just takes the cake literally breath taking at times. Was able to drop in an extra 1TB high speed SD card that only cost me $50 bucks in addition to the 512 it came with. Can always just buy another SD card if I ever actually use all the space or just need more. It's just unheard of with how much Apple charges for more storage. The S pen included and it's good plus the ability to use the Wacom Pen as well. Samsung Dex is really not talked about enough either it's the Ipad pros missing link honestly. You pay all this money and have a Tablet that is really capable of outperforming some decently equipped laptops even and yet your stuck to a extremely limited tablet style experience and they make no effort to change it because it would encroach upon their laptop business. It almost stops serving a purpose to have the much power in a tablet and not be able to properly use it.
The only real remaining downside is yeah software is still not as good usually but at least these days you have options. It's not the desert it used to be where you kinda had no choice. Still a lot of work to be done there but it's enough where I no longer feel like I need to be trapped in the Apple ecosystem.

I have this weird bug with iPad and Apple Pencil, where the distance from which it starts drawing varies ALL-THE-FREAKING-TIME, going from around 0.1mm to 1.5mm, apparently is dependant, but not limited to, if you have a case that squeezes the iPad a tiny bit too much and by extention its digitizer and seems to happen more on M2 iPads because of the hover funciton.
However, it consistently starts drawing BEFORE the Apple Pencil touches the screen, with or without a case, which has never happened on any Samsung tablet I've owned (currently have both iPad and Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra). Drawing is not too bad, but for someone that takes a lot of notes like me, this problem is an absolute nightmare and very frustrating when you expect the pencil to stop writing a word or a letter, but the streak keeps going as if you were still touching the screen.
I haven't brought the iPad and Pencil back to the store because I feel like I'm definitely going to be ignored. If anyone has faced this and found a solution, please share :)

The biggest problem with these comparisons is comparing a 14 inch tablet with a 12.9 inch iPad....just get the same size tablet and compare both...the more important thing that he didn't touch upon is the feel of the pen on the device. With the iPad...it feels bad...like plastic on glass....you need screen protectors to even get close. With Samsung, the rubberised tip just feels really really good. Its not spoken enough about...hell even Samsung doesn't know this which is why their adverts don't talk about this. The s pen feels better on the screen...it feels more like paper than the apple pencil. Lastly, the inclusion of the s pen for free is not really given as an advantage...there are more premium feeling pens available for the Samsung tablet but the s pen being free, and feeling as light as it does in hand is a big thing for artists too...and even if they want something heavier, then they can spend the same money an apple pencil costs to get something with similar weight

it's the user experience. I ve been a nexus 4 user for years, tweiking everything. When you go iphone, it's truth that it's so more restricted, but every day use is different. The apps responds better, animatiosn is fastest and smoother. Just the scrolling of a document? it's somehow smoother. Really rare that apps crash or freeze, with android is way more frequent and they are less smooth.
When I picked up my first macbook pro 13 in 2009, I was astonished at how good the trackpad is compared to windows laptops. Gestures etc are 5 years ahead. Windows is now more close, but you always have that "user experience" smoothness that you miss when using android-windows.

Good stuff... But I missed Brad as iPad and Brad as Samsung from the last time you did the smackdown. That was hilarious. I prefer Android, so I lean Samsung. I just can't understand why they can't do 5G versions of the Ultra. I want a tablet I can take and go with... IDK. Seems obvious to me, but I guess no one else wants it.

I have a Samsung galaxy tab s6 (top model in 2019) the spen stoped working within 1 year, got new pwn but now the positioning is not right,
The screen is now coming off as the glue has lost its stickiness
So in case of long term use ipad will work better.

A surplus of processing power is irrelevant. Both tablets are super fast and fast enough to fulfill every task.
It's about usability- and productivity options, innovation, gaming- and multi-media experience and the Ultra destroys the ipad Pro on these very relevant aspects.

The on-screen feel of the s-pen feels so much nicer the iPad. And no need to charge it.
Those paper like screen protectors help on iPad.
I get incredibly annoyed by Apple's security features. You can't even setup or use an iPad without connecting it to the Internet, and then it was to verify with codes sent to iPhone. The whole experience is obnoxious.
I've never lost or had a device stolen, but I have been without Internet on all sorts of occasions where I'd still want to use it setup or reset a device.
Plus, Dex is way better ios. And android actually has normal mouse support. Mouse support on iOS is retarded.

if you still want to buy an ipad bcs youre already in a ios system and you like it, go for it! but you should know that it is truly overpriced and if youre an artist (or just want the apple pencil) it is also overpriced and the bare minimum to be a great pencil.

and about the wacom pens, its funny bcs actually the wacom pen actually works on the samsung tablets, so if you for some reason do not like the s-pen, you can by just the wacom pencil and it will work just fine! pressure and everything! thats incredible honestly bcs i feel that wacom pencils are soo ergonomic...

yeah, you are partially correct about your statement. Apple has some more features and apps Samsung doesn't.

For example, Apple pencil uses AES which is very different tech from Wacom's EMR.
There are reasons why Apple pencil are heavy, expensive, and needs to be charged.

What has Samsung done about burn in on their AMOLED displays? Can it happen that the image burns into the screen? This is a big problem on Samsung mobile phone displays... I'm also curious if Apple will switch to OLED and how they will protect their iPad Pro displays from it.

@@shadowsketch926 Though I will agree that for most people, the M2 chip is kinda overkill, drawing apps require a lot of processing power (even a bit more processing power and ram means larger canvases and better brushes). As for storage, most drawing apps (the exception being Procreate) store on the cloud, so storage be a valid concern for people using Procreate, but not enough for processing power to overpower storage, especially in the creative field.
