- Dear music lovers, thanks for being here!
This is Canon in D by Pachelbel, every violinist’s and cellist’s favorite piece to play. It’s a beautiful piece, but it’s majorly overdone, and as we all know - too much of the good thing… Hope you had a good laugh regardless :)

On double bass I like g major. It gives you a lot of room and also that's where the harmonic is in thumb position so it's very flexible. Transposing is a pain isn't it
You look gorgeous in that dress
The fuck do you mean by “beautiful piece”
Wow you’re still good though! Love it❤️ I’ve only ever played once at a wedding and one of the songs was this one.... what can I do to play more at weddings etc.? I’m asking because I think that’s something I would wanna do more frequently and don’t know where to start
It did is by default because I don’t know how to play any other good songs
Canon in D for violinists be like fur Elise for pianists
Istg if someone asks me to play Fur Elsie again I'm gonna bang my head on the wall and yeet myself into another universe
Is river flows in you
Facts
i felt that twice due to playing both instruments
Overrated piece
More like Canon in D(ivorce)
As a classical musician, there's other beautiful pieces suited for wedding.
Can u mention some of them plz.?.. 🙏 I wanna take a listen to them!
@@avishkards8661 I really love mariage d’amour 😩🙌
Can can
William tell Overture 😂🤣
Yeah, like Beethoven 5th symphony
@@avishkards8661 symphony no. 5 but reverse.
As a student violinist, I LOVED playing and showing off that I could play it as a child.
Now, I absolutely hate it because of how many times I played it as a child.
Right is so boring and repetitive.
I play the cello and if I get request to pay canon in D I charge extra. If I have to suffer may as well make extra money.
What’s the problem with it ? 😶
@@majeedAG I'm not a musician but I've read someone's comment explaining that the cello basically has to play the same eight notes for the entire piece, is that correct @Jenna Medlyn?
@@jiminsgotmorejamsthanme610 yes this is true
@@jiminsgotmorejamsthanme610 as a cellist i can verify that playing it is a living hell
@@morganpalmer6811 may the lingling spirit help you get through all the canon in ds you'll have to play in your life 🙏🏻
I realize that it's a joke, but I stopped thinking like this a little while ago. Now, no matter how I feel about a song, I try to remember it could have been a departed family member's favorite piece or have some other special significance in their life. I can also strive to play it better than I ever have, experiment with timbre or dynamics, or try different articulations. I also remember that it's only a few minutes out of my life and that I'm playing for the audience as well as myself. Hope this helps any musicians struggling with having to play the warhorses. For me it was Proud Mary. Now I actually like playing it again. Good luck!
Thank you so much! In one of my friends wedding we really wanted to surprise the bride with a song her grandfather always played as we grew up. It was like "his thing" and he passed exactly 1 month before the ceremony day.
Me and other bridesmaids emailed the band/orchestra that was gonna play asking if they could include this song in the wedding party or some other moment and explaining the meaning for the bride. They declined.
We told her mother that called them asking again, saying that if needed we would pay extra.
They declined again saying that that song was too bland and didn't like it but we were free to hire another person to play that song or just cancel with them and find another band for the whole ceremony and party.
@@sarahisatitagainwow that is literally insane from that band to refuse like that, after being explained the emotional significance of the song. In my opinion they shouldn't even need to have it explained to them, if you are hiring them to play you should be able to request a song without any problems. I hope they hired another band instead that weren't such psychopaths.
@@j_the_kid we hired another group, a string quartet from our own pocket to play at the reception. We didn't want to stress the bride in such short notice from the wedding but we told her later.
We just wanted her to have the day and enjoy so we said a white lie and later we told her the true and she left review on their public page. Their excuse was "we have a set of music and style we follow and we can't add more musics or it would have to do it for everyone"
@@j_the_kidit’s their choice though. That’s why it’s called a _request,_ it’s not an order.
Like it or not, this piece is overplayed to the point of insanity and as a musician, if I have to play it one more time, I’ll fucking claw my eyes out. I shouldn’t have to sacrifice my comfort for you, emotional significance or no. I’m glad another person was hired, but ultimately it was *their choice* not to play. They are not "psychopaths" for saying no.
🙏❤
Even though it is overplayed, I still find it satisfying to play for some reason
all the violinists and cellists remember the first time we hear canon in D, and when we learned to play it, that memories are beautiful, then at least 3 times a week someone asks you to play it and it is no longer the same. (But it's still a beautiful piece ^^)
The main reason I like Cannon in D is because it was my mom’s favorite thing to play on the piano and it reminds me of her.
My favorite as well. One of the docs at the hospital played this on the piano daily. It was his late mother's favorite piece and it reminder him of her.
I’ve played this on violin at weddings and
ceremonies for 20 years and still will. It’s been the special music to lot of precious memories and life milestones.
I have no clue why Canon in D is so popular. Literally every live performance I've attended has that one guy who requests Canon in D OUT OF NOWHERE. One time, literally after a series of pop songs that range from Justin Bieber to Idina Menzel, some dude just paid the musician to perform Canon in D out of nowhere. What a mood killer. :/
Circle progressions sound good and the chords are super easy to write.
It's because of the "go suck a d**" vine.
In other words, funny meme
Because it's beautiful.
Because it's the only classical music piece they know.
I remember as a kid, practicing Canon on flute for hours since it was played for our year end school concert. At that point, everyone got so sick of it, we played the saddest sounding version ever. It wasn't until years later, I heard Canon live with a full orchestra, I burst into tears with how much emotion they played it with.
Canon in D for quartet. Cellist, you get the carriage. Violist and violin 2, get the Cannon. I'll grab the gunpowder and shot.
They left laughing, they loved it for sure
I was genuinely taken aback by this- 😭 I was ready to vibe
Come here Eddy!
She is your soulmate! 💐 💍
Brett:😢
I actually bursted out laughing!!
bursted? Huh?😅😅😂😂
Me: “Ooh she’s making it minor!! 🎈🥳
Me (1 second later): 💥😨
Her: 🎬🔚……✌️
But truthfully the reason pieces like this are popular is because it’s beautiful
No, it is because it is simple, repetitive, and grossly overdone. It is easily recognized, like that latest annoying pop song that is played 24/7 on the radio. My music theory professor used to call it Taco Bell's Canon in D. I am with him, and this violinist. It bores the **** out of me.
Note: I DO like some pop music. But it had degraded since the 70s and 80s.
There are so many other pieces that would be appropriate, beautiful, and less trite and tranquilizing. Let those who are offended respond.
@@jamesholden4571 nooo big nooo you know canon is a compositional technique you can not blame composer for using canon style beautifully, such a sweet and natural counterpoint and harmony is rare, can you name better canon compositions?
@@jamesholden4571 there's nothing wrong with it being simple. Imo liszt's music sucks. Doesn't even como close to canon in d. Pachelbel was genious
@@jamesholden4571how can something beautiful be overdone? It’s like a good song that you keep playing because each time it still sounds good. Each time someone qualified enough plays this piece, it sounds good to the ear. They show their mastery. This just sounds like YOU want to play something else and you’re welcome to do that, but if people want to hear it be played, they’re welcome to either learn this piece or hire/ask someone who knows it well. Someone composed this piece, it took them time to figure out what they wanted to express through it, and it turned out beautiful regardless of its complexity. Comments like yours are like a coder who doesn’t like seeing “hello world.” At one point, they also saw it or some alternative of it while learning to code.
I’ll make someone ironically play maroon 5 at my wedding
I have played the violin since third grade but played this when I was a senior in high school. Our strings class played it at a festival and we won an award as well.
I love Canon in D. Heard it on Pump It Up (that dance game), then the classical, then the rock one. I'll always love it because it means a piece of my childhood (the game), but I NEVER intend to put it in my marriage ceremony
Got me in the first half ngl
You are a smart lad. Literally, there are a list of 100 classical music you can use at your wedding.
This reminds me of stations that play 40's Big Band / Swing.... HAVE YOU HEARD "IN THE MOOD"? YES? OK HERE IT IS AGAIN
Oh, cellists love Canon in D even more. Everytime it is requested for a wedding, they get excited.
Canon in d is the forbidden riff of the violin
The cello guy be like "i have played 4 notes in the past 30 mins,4".
True but better if you actually have a bass player. The first chair violinist in our group learned how to play the bass part and we won an award at a festival.
She worked really hard after school to play it but she did it.
Canon in D for violinists is like Wonderwall for guitarists.
I played viola for 5 years and actually love playing this song ;-;
When you’re a cellist…. This is literally heck on earth.
Hell*
Wait till smone asks u to play the cello suite
Everyone commenting is a musician, I guess. 🤷♂️ As someone who doesn't play any instruments, and is just a listener, I request Canon in D because I've never heard it live and I get hyped hearing that a friend or someone I know plays an instrument. Yet, I always get the same, "iT's So OVeRpLaYEd".
Sorry bro now you know. Don't request it.
Please don’t request that unless you wanna pay a lot, I think that there’s videos of it but Ik that’s not exactly live..
Well what else do you expect people to tell you? IT IS OVERPLAYED. So if you already know that, it's not really your smartest move if you keep on requesting it...
It sucks.
It’s the equivalent of being a mindless, soulless factory worker doing the same screws if you’re a factory worker
I need a full version now, so frustrating
Two set fans approaching
I just cackled so loud!!! 🤣😂😅🤣
Violin's smoke on the water.
my mum made me promise one thing. she doesn’t care about it, but when she dies, canon in d WILL be played at her funeral
How many times?
Cannon in d is my favorite composition and there is no changing that
This was actually fun to watch
Tbh if I’m being paid I’ll play whatever they want me to play 😂
Pure defination of "never let 'em know your next move" 😂
That's how ballet dancers feel about the Nutcracker but hey, THAT'S OUR BREAD AND BUTTER.
One of my favourite pieces but I also have fond memories of it going back 35 years.
I get it. This is the equivalent of "No Stairway" in the violin world.
Wonderwall 😳
Smoke on the water
Girl took , “Sike” to a whole different level. 😀🤚
It isn't boring unless you are playing without passion and soul
this is like ppl asking bards in final fantasy to play cruel angels thesis
Twoset would agree.
You look at the cellistr straight to the eye and:
Excuse me?!!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 this is my favorite violin clip of the damn year. I nearly fell out of my bed. That’s funnyyyy. Lmao omg.
Canon in D for violinist is careless whisper for saxophonist
Canon in D is the classical version of Wagon Wheel.
Canon in d for violinists is like stairway to heaven for guitar center employees
In eighth grade our teacher made us play this and only this and it drove me insane because three of my classes in a ROW were just orchestra so for almost three hours almost every day it was just THIS!!! So glad she got fired :')
That's awful. My brother took over the music department of a church where the former person only played hallelujah chorus or something like that? And some people were super mad when he changed it up.
I legit had a good laugh from this. It's so true. Canon in D is so overplayed so much. I almost fell asleep at the piano when I was asked to play this. So I understand.
I love how you use music to express your frustration with an overplayed number. Started with cannon in D major than Divorce in D minor
Beautiful dress , beautiful design
The pain of playing Canon in D, I felt that-
Guys, working as a professional musician/entertainer involves playing what the client asks for. HowEVER many times that may be. I’m a cellist and guitar player. I play Free Bird at my rock / pop shows, and I play Pachelbel’s Canon in D. Happily.
As a cellist, I absolutely love canon in D. It makes me want to shoot a canon on my D
i just played that song in my concert
Now all we need here is twoset violin
I actually played that 1 time so it's very lovely
The peice is extremely overdone I guess thats why Ive never liked it to begin with. I havent found an all time favorite peice but if I had to choose one it would probably be Early Summer Rain by (samidare)Takanashi Yasukawa for Violin
It’s like hitting the repeat button after 5 measures
Ah yes
Canon in D
*breathes*
**boi.**
And then there’s fur Elise and river flows in you-
I’d rather get up in front of 200 people and play hot cross buns wrong than canon in D.
I loved the gig
I mean the giggling
The change gave me whiplash
i’m a beginner and I actually have been practicing this piece for like a week now 😂
Wow! Spot on. I’m at the point if that piece randomly comes up on Pandora or Spotify, it’s an automatic “SKIP”.
Shame actually. Love your stuff!
I'm surprised you ended up clicking on this. I wasn't sure why I did myself?
Canon in D for voilinists is like Thunderstruck for guitarists
Lolol she said "not a chance!"
Fabulous
Absolutely nailed it. 💯
as a cellist, canon in d is hell
Canon in d for violins is like careless whispers for saxophonists
I mean.... some of us haven’t heard it very often. I think I’ve heard the thing maybe 3 or so times in my entire life and only the first few notes.
Some of us are just not that cultured, or have been fortunate enough not to attend that many weddings. I like the tradition of having it played during the ceremony anyway.
It's just that the musicians have had to play it a thousand times already while it is a rather boring and superficial piece.
@@myrovanloon4030 Read above, uncultured, literally never heard it played in full, would like to.
Plus if I’m paying you for a service I expect literally anything I request to be met. If I request you play Death Gripz on a piano then I want Death Gripz on a piano.
@@ChipCheerio oh they'll play it if you pay well, they just won't enjoy it.
Nice. You make twoset proud.

Classical music is so beautiful
How I feel as an organists when someone wants me to play toccata und fugue in d minor
*cries in cellist*
Yeah exactly how I feel. Hate performing it.
She can get this Canon in D
i’m year two viola and i have to play this soon
Agreed, I'd cut my ears off if I hear canon in D or für elise 😫
Viola player that can play Canon in D!
"Lol nty, I don't get paid enough for this"
Canon in D is like smoke on the water/wonderwall for guitarist
Or fur elise for pianists,
Even after all the years I've played this song, it's still one of my favorites. It just holds a special place in my heart
I would LOVE to play violin
It's because everyone who is like 30 or 40 now played Rhythm games and Canon D a popular song
Aw I liked playing that song
This isn't POV of whatever that means. This is POV of someone watching someone being asked to play that.
the only time my neighbour praise my violin is when I play Canon D, if she'd know the name she would put a request. I play it sometimes just for her as a reward after torturing double notes practice
Merry Christmas and God bless!
pov I just got home for christmas break
my mother: Ooh can you play um pachabel canon? I don’t know if you’ve-
me: *instantly evaporates*
Cannon in D but D said no
I went busking once on the cello and someone came up to me and said theyed give me $50 if i played cannon in D, the amount of glares i got after that
When I was in middle school and two high schoolers were playing that at my choir concert. A violinist and a chelo player
For a guitarist, it’s Stairway
This is why I love funtwo's version
