  • In this video, we discuss practical tips for managing cravings and breaking all-or-nothing patterns. We explore the "next best" mindset and the importance of having pauses instead of pendulums.
I also share examples of how to make meals and treats healthier without sacrificing taste, such as adding more veggies to takeout, making homemade potato chips with a burger, and ordering a potato at Starbucks instead of a high-calorie drink. I'll be discussing how to make comfort meals like curry and creamy pasta lighter. Finally, I will share tips for enjoying treats and dessert in a way that feels special and satisfying, such as making it an event, taking time to enjoy it, and getting single-serve portions.

A good tip if you crave something a bit richer is to indulge in just one thing, for example half an avocado in your salad, or an extra portion of fruit/potatoes, etc. Just one thing per day, not a selection! And maybe try eating a little less at the next meal. Best of all, do not keep tempting food in the house. I grew up in the 70s, no takeaways then so I never buy ready made meals/processed foods, I'm rarely tempted, I like making my own food

Hey! Thanks so much for this video. I found you recently on my journey. I'm not vegan but you have inspired me to eat loads more veggies. I have tracked macros consistently for a couple years now and have lost 75lbs. I still have a 5-10 lbs to my "goal" but have decided to just embrace my current weight and focus on consistency, maintenance/building back calories and build muscle. Your videos have encouraged me to embrace my love for potatoes and veggies/plants. I feel like the goal of 1-2 lbs of veg each day has been so key in my satisfaction level lately..before this goal I felt famished all the time. I truly think it's helped me stay way more consistent by adding more whole foods just like you said in this video. All of your tips are so on point. Especially, "the next best option."
Please keep uploading! I share your vids to some of my friends beginning their journey and they also love your content. I hope this encourages you.
Thanks for all your hard work and passion.
Much love from the US. 🧡
P.S. it's national donut day here in the US... And I have been planning this donut outing for a while. Planning those treats makes them taste so much better. I hope this gives you an excuse to some sort of donut today. 😂 Okay bye! ☺️

We are having family come and stay soon and I know there will be takeaway meals involved and I'm now feeling so much better about just adding some frozen broccoli to whatever we get and then eating half a portion I would usually eat.

Chels, I can’t tell you how much I appreciated this topic and how you covered it! So encouraging and practical (like all of your content ♥️) Navigating indulgent opportunities and desserts has been an ongoing challenge for me in maintenance. Your instruction on how to handle these situations reinforces how I dealt with a friend hangout the other day. Some of our best friends offered to bring local gourmet vegan pizza, salad, and mini peanut butter cups for movie night. Immediately my concern was about choosing between completely sabotaging all the good choices I made all week or abstaining and missing out on the fun and generosity of these friends. When they offered to bring the salad with the oil-based dressing on the side I made a plan to fill up on the dressing-free salad, have two pieces of pizza instead of three, and have a mini pb cup instead of several or zero. I felt good in my body - full from the food but didn’t overdo it, and proud of the choices I made! Thank you thank you for the affirmation.

Related to # 4: I struggle with the need to finish what's on my plate / in my bowl. So I started measuring the meals I do at home so I only put a certain amount on my plate. Once I finish that, then I am able to get in touch with my hunger and realize I am full (or if I'm truly not, then I can top it off with something until I am). I started out with measuring an amount close to how much I would normally eat....after getting used to an amount and my weight loss stalling, I decrease it a little. That has been way more successful for me than one day telling myself I need to only get a tiny amount of food on my plate and force myself to not eat anything else until the next meal - I would end up binging on snacks out of hunger and ultimately eating more than I would otherwise.

Always so glad to see one of these videos pop up where you talk about getting/staying consistent, and going easy on yourself when you make choices that are not so strict. I need this right now. My plan is to add more vegis to my first meal of the day, as with any meal. I want to keep things so simple, that I've got used to eating Ezekiel no salt added cereal with soy milk and blueberries. I think it's a pretty high calorie dense meal, and is quite processed. I'm hooked on it, so am going to try eating a vegi meal with rice, or potato, etc. Filling up on vegis is more in keeping with the whole plant food eating plan. Oh how I get myself tangled up in these notions, when I know they don't work.

I think for me, the idea that maybe eating that ice cream once is not going to derail my whole life. the all or nothing thinking has ruined so much of my life. The being perfect is great till I’m not. I already get take out meals and add a ton of veg to them. This way if there is a sauce it will coat the veg but reduce the overall calories. I’m just new to eating this way so I’m not ready for the treats yet, but I was glad to hear your take on the overall mindset. Thank you

The next best mindset is something I need to work on. My biggest problem is eating "perfect" and then I will make something like oat and banana cookies and instead of eating one, I always eat all and then sometimes I'll go for something else and then it turns into a landslide for days and weeks and one day I finally snap out of it and get back on track, usually after gaining about 5-10 lbs. I have been doing this for so many years, I'm just sick of it!! I will try and work on the next best mindset and see what happens,

The reason why you are able or another is able to add in cheat meals and foods is because the liver has gotten to a place where it can function at optimal levels and digest and detox these foods. Depending on someone's level of illness and liver's ability to detox and process foods will dictate how far off the pendulum they can eat or indulge. Medical Medium has been absolutely a genius for explaining this. I do go over it in my channel as I did have health challenges that it has helped me overcome. I enjoy your channel. Best and to your good health.

I need to take care not to slip in some extra calories from healthy foods, e.g. a handful of dried (salty) veggies (50cals), a big spoonful of Oatly Greek yoghurt (50cals), extra grated beetroot or other root veg (50+ cals), they all add up. I noticed that I added chopped tomatoes, tons of onions and garlic to everything, these are very healthy foods but not calorie-free, I realised that by adding an extra tin of tomatoes to my meals every day increased the calorie content by hundreds of calories a week. So I've started making soups, sauteeing mushrooms and peppers, etc. without always adding tomatoes and excessive amounts of garlic and onions. Variety also makes me eat more and I realised that my salads were becoming more and more complex and calorific, healthy, but calorific. So I am simplifying my meals, going back to basics.

Adding veggies to a take out meal is brilliant! I’ll use that strategy even with some ‘not quite whole foods’ home cooked meals. My husband likes the occasional Beyond Beef or Impossible Burger so adding a butt load of broccoli or salad should offset some of my slip up makes it not so bad. I like to indulge him because he’s sick and it’s at times challenging to find something to cook for him, his tastebuds are really messed up
Really do hope you keep creating youtubes, yours are so much fun to watch

Same here...been this way for a long time. But it is only on some of Chelsea's (no one else's) RUclipss which is also peculiar. And this is a brand new Samsung tv and an older one.- sigh - It works fine on my phone and ipad. :)

I've had this problem with another of her videos too as well as this one. I watch on my Samsung phone. This only happens on Chelsea's videos and no one else's. It's weird.
