I've been using silver sharpies for dings n scrapes on my weaponry projects(smudged with a finger along the edges) and less is certainly more. Also been using brush pens for weathering on other models, like X-Wings etc too. Lovely organic effect.
Another item I found amazing useful is fine tip metallic gel pens while not good on large areas but pick out small details icons on armor, trim, and any small area that is difficult for a brush make a mistake just rub off once you reach the details you're after clear coat
Well maybe someone here can provide some help, I have sharpie markers, I have these as well, and I often use them to highlight certain pieces on figures or add missing details, however this markers Do Not stick to plastic and smudge a lot, I've tried coating with matte spray but it doesn't seem to hold either, so, do this just Not stick to plastic or should what should I use to seal it better?
I tried using sharpies to paint detail on my stormsurge, and all they did was remove the paint, because they have an alcohol base. Is there a difference between the metallic markers and the regular ones?
love this channel but really hate this idea. i used to work in a marker factory and the inks would literaly melt through the containers that held them over time. im not a chemist i dont know why it happened but GW models are to expensive to risk it
Maybe it's the liquid part and once it dries/cures it would be safe on plastic? I've seen plenty of people using markers but never anyone talk about them causing damage to the model.
Obviously markers are permanent so could the model be stripped like you can with paint? I guess it should be if you use pens on top of existing basecoat for example....?.....hello???
Instalike. Went to Staples to pick this pick up as soon as I saw the video. Have you tried non metallic colours for highlighting, shadowing, and doing recessed areas? I'm interested in getting some more Sharpie markers to do a wide variety of fine detail tasks but not sure if it looks as good as the silver or bronze do.
DismemberTheAlamo well the difference is in the price. sharpies are ink markers, gunpla markers are powder paint markers, but the most glaring difference is the price. the gunpla marker base set costs 25 bucks, and a sharpie base pack is like 3 bucks, however gunpla markers just look better when dried. also they have robots on them, so even without the better paint they are superior.
I understand this, ive been using Gunpla's since i was in middle school, so we are talking like.. early 90's. This was well before I got into tabletop wargaming. Some people like their frugal shortcuts, this is just not a place where i take them.
Dat spattering, you should be more careful with your airbrush man :D interesting tips tho, ive considered black/darkbrown sharpie for battle damage. Just get a really sharp one and do small cuts with it, should be interesting too.
well give one an exsues to go to AC more or blank to look em up like paint marker some times to do tuch up or just cant get right with prush yes numbers and sutch but will look em up and me like to get out and go to store no amazon fore me olny in minis fore my army
The hydraulics at the end of the video blend in too much, they really should stand out as different in color, more "Steel" that brass, gold or silver. Maybe duller to show how much they move and wear, etc. And at the edges, where it works against itself, just a hint of black to show oil or whatever the lubricant is

holy crap Rob, you've shown me multiple products that I've bought, this ones the weirdest...and I'm sold. Thanks man!
I'd like to use this to color in unpainted parts of Hasbro figures like Marvel Legends. Will the marked parts be dry and not sticky?
Well maybe someone here can provide some help, I have sharpie markers, I have these as well, and I often use them to highlight certain pieces on figures or add missing details, however this markers Do Not stick to plastic and smudge a lot, I've tried coating with matte spray but it doesn't seem to hold either, so, do this just Not stick to plastic or should what should I use to seal it better?

Jean-Luc Coelho you'll need to varnish over the acrylic base coat.
love this channel but really hate this idea. i used to work in a marker factory and the inks would literaly melt through the containers that held them over time. im not a chemist i dont know why it happened but GW models are to expensive to risk it

That finished shot looks amazing.
Markers FTW
That is very cool, something to consider as an option
Obviously markers are permanent so could the model be stripped like you can with paint? I guess it should be if you use pens on top of existing basecoat for example....?.....hello???
sooo what's the answer ? Im curious too xd
For sure... Permanent markers are permanent, but they are not supposed to be as permanent as paint, anyways...
Ironically just heard about this via Carl on the Independent Characters. Thanks for demonstrating.
I see some bad spiderwebbing on a few of the plates in the highlights bro, looks pretty good as a whole though
I just heard you say it's not yours so never mind, my bad
I would use this but I think painting metallic fun

just trim so far, thats what takes me the longest honestly. I used washes and Airbrush for the rest mostly ;)
Hi Rob,
cant find that Sharpie metallic permanent markers. Can youpost a link?
cheers
dak
staples, ac moore, any office supply store. i see them at walmart and dollar general too.
well done
Great
What mini is this?
A cross between a glaze and a wash? A "Glosh"
you should have used Gunpla markers, they dry better.
Did not like.
Gunpla markers are far superior, theyre designed to be used on plastic models ala Gundams.
You just need to learn technique, as with anything else.

I'll stick with paints to be on the safe side.
Coward! Haha! JK 😄

I appreciate the C&C but per the video all I pained on this model was the trim.
General Hux?
If you want to use markers, Gundam Markers might be a better choice. But like many others, ill stick with brush and paints.
Paint your figures with markers! Get yours here: amzn.to/2T8Mc6S (affiliate link)
