Intro animated and edited by Andrew Soria and Jamie Wood
Jim and Chris take a look at two movies from the 80s that involve the danger of comets. Halley's Comet obviously inspired both! One is Tobe Hooper's horror movie Lifeforce and the other is the sci-fi post-apocalyptic movie Night of the Comet. Развлечения
I was fortunate to see both of these in the theater upon release and loved each immensely. I have known Mathilda May’s name since day 1. CMS and Kelly Maroni are excellent in Comet which is an exceedingly feminist movie. Another great show, guys!
My dad showed both these films to me as a kid growing up in the 80s and they scared the hell out of me for years (along with other confusing feelings)
Wait a minute: Catherine Mary Stewart character is named Regina BELMONT??? So that makes it canon: she's a descendent of the Belmont clan of monster hunters from Castlevania, clearly.
Oh man, Night of the Comet was one of my favorites growing up. Such a classic. Lifeforce was definitely a trip, too. Another great episode, guys. Can't wait for the next one.
They’re both very fun.
Didn't realize Jim was in KC. Always nice to see comic creators from the midwest. Gives me hope.
Great episode guys!!! Really enjoyed it!! I was introduced to Night of the Comet by my Mom when I was younger, still one of my all time favorites!
There was a 60s sexy space vampire movie with Dennis Hopper - QUEEN of BLOOD (1966). Saw it as a tyke in the 70s on Creature Double Feature out of Boston - crazy stuff! Absolutely an influence on LIFEFORCE
I’ll look that one up, thank you!
Such a great episode! Lifeforce was a big surprise... when teenage me rented it, I had no idea it would have SO much going on in it. Night of The Comet is legitimately one of my favorite movies. I think it is criminal unsung. I'm so glad you guys covered these, especially N.O.T.C. It's nice to see others appreciating it.
I’m so glad Jim introduced me to it. Great movie.
These movies were apart of my childhood. Space Vampires and people mutating and losing their minds after being exposed to a comet. These movies were my introduction to schlock.
Two of my favorite childhood rentals. The guy who looks like Eminem was also in the 80s classic Suburbia. You guys gotta do Terrorvision and the Video Dead! They were both released as a double feature from Scream Factory not too long ago.
In modern vampirte lore, that power is called mesmerize.
Night of the Comet!!!
One of my all time favorite movies.
When I was a kid, my friends and I used to play a game called Maximum Overdrive, loosely based on the film. We'd go out on a Saturday night and walk round the village in the dark (there's fuck-all else to do when you grow up in the countryside and you're too young for hallucinogens), then on the rare occasion we'd catch sight of some car headlights coming around the corner, one of us would shout 'Maximum Overdrive!' and we'd all hide. If the headlights fell on you, of course, you'd 'die'.
The beginning of the Night of the Comet talk made me think of a couple Simpsons stories, amalgamated in my mind, both from Treehouse of Horror: the one where Homer survives a nuclear attack by just happening to be in a shelter at the time, and another with zombies ("Dad, you killed zombie Flanders!" "He was a zombie?"). At first I was wondering if the Simpsons had parodied this movie, but those episodes aren't the same thing.
19:10 "cool right of the bat" :)
I miss 90-minute movies. Most movies today overstay their welcome.
Well, what.a pleasant surprise for a Friday, it's my 1st time here😮😊❤
Thanks for giving it a watch!
Both these movies are available for free on Tubi right now, so i was able to watch them before seeing your video. Great stuff!
Excellent timing, helping gramps out
Always thought that they should have kept the novel’s title. The Space Vampires fits the movie much more than life force.
that's a lot of fun to watch!
Speaking of King's drug dreams, there's a lot of schlock movies based on King's works. Some that come to mind right now are Riding the Bullet, Graveyard Shift, Silver Bullet, not counting of course Maximum Overdrive. Out of those, I personally think the best is Silver Bullet (based on Cycle of the Werewolf).
That one was Corey Haim and Gary Busey, right?
@@ProsAndConsLive I'm bad with actor's names, but IMDB says that's right.
Mary Waronov ❤️❤️❤️
awesome
I've had a real bad week so this is could not have come at a better time. Love the two of you and the mysterious editor Jamie. Happy (early) free comic book day!
“Mysterious editor jamie” is how I’ll now introduce myself to everyone I meet, thank you. 😂
@@jamiewoodedits lol fantastic! Should go on your business card
Super cool video review 😎 👌
Nice episode guys.
The comets are seen as a bad omen in Japanese culture, but in the west always seems that comets and shooting stars were good and luck omens? I think? Which kind surprises me for these movies used it as the "inciting incident"
Both were made as folks were anticipating seeing Halley’s Comet so it was just comets on the brain for a few years.
When I saw "Lifeforce" when I was 15, Mathilda May 😍 instantly became my platonic love. If you are fans of this actress I recommend "The tit and the moon" 1994 of Bigas Luna
Capwolf!!
Thank you for remembering that!
