Pilot here, we use roughly 12 different types of vision on militirized aircraft. Flir being one of them. Hell the local police chopper in wpg has 6.
I flew HH-60Ls in the US Army and we used the TALON FLIR with both black and white hot capabilities Kind of an old technology but sufficient enough to track a speeding car sufficiently.

I can tell you that just last week a Z06 out ran everything including a Sherrifs helicopter.This was on the 118 freeway in California he was cruising at 160 to 180.

So that hellcat in Houston it was a news chopper following and he didn’t not get away he ran out of gas. Yes you can drive faster then the helicopter can go but you need to realize that helicopter is high up and has a clear view for miles not including any cameras that can zoom in..then you run into the issue in order to get away from a helicopter on the highway you’d have to be full throttle for probably at least 30-40 miles if not more

Most helicopters like police ones can cruise at 120-150 with a max speed of 170-180 depending. So your doing 170 helicopter is behind you doing 150 yes your getting away from him but he’s a mile up in the sky with a camera zooming in on you while your 10 miles ahead then are you gonna be able to keep that speed helicopter doesn’t have to worry about traffic or road work

Infrared camera on helicopters have been around since 03 i believe and theres ways to mitigate ir tracking. anti infrared panels that block heat signatures similar to how some reconnaissance jets avoid detection other than radar tech
Just an FYI, NC SHP has IR on their choppers and the technology has gotten relatively inexpensive compared to a few years back, as well as it’s gotten smaller in size. Heck, here in Hoke County, the SO has a couple of drones with IR on them. Much love to you KO, and be careful out there dude. 🤙

I recall seeing a video were a white challenger hellcat outran helicopter couldnt keep up. And before u say it no helli didnt run out of gas or pull off. U can hear whoever talking say helli can only do x speed the challenger doing this speed on highway. The video i watched clearly showed white challenger hc evade helli. Of course makes it more diffucult 100%. But only bigger cities have hellis and as many ppl run in a day i doubt they got 5-6 diffrent hellis chase everyone 🤷♂️

Helicopters are not justbused for those things he mentioned. They literally are on patrol like patrol cars and they assist ground officers during felony calls or just fly around looking for them if nothings going on. They go in to fuel maybe 2 or 3 times a shift.

Fun fact: infrared cameras still need light to work so if he got under trees or tunnels (got under coverage) he can easily get away the infrared camera needs a clear view of the object to so if he got coverage he would be gone.
