Monaco GP: where the car in front of you literally hits the barrier and you still have to wait for an opportunity to pass them by
They do need to widen the track... pointless "circuit".Only there because history...
How do you recommend they widen a track that is made out of streets in Monaco??
@@Alex-HD Knock down billions of pounds worth of building, I presume
tbf, the driver did stick pretty much to the racing line
@@yigithan3713 nah the track is just fine, one of the best in the calendar.
Beautiful downshift sound
I always loved the sound of that car under deceleration in the low speed corners, the engine had a real nice deep rumble.
Blown Diffusor
The bauty of blown defuser
Yes, what kind of engine does this vehicle has? I'm new to formula 1
@@andresacon8659 2.4L V8 limited to 18k rpm by the rules
I don't understand how they can maintain that level of daring; concentration and speed for a whole race? It really is insane!
Quite insane that they still race at Monaco, it's for the tradition and money but the racing is mostly crap
@@meekrab9027 Yeah unless it's wet it's the most boring race usually.
@@Bartooc Paul Ricard has been the absolute worst of the season both times
They were born to do it.
@@meekrab9027 you watched Monaco of its qualifying. The race is just a bonus, the Quali pretty much determined the winner.
That moment when 2011 is considered as "Classic" and you feel mighty old, even though you are just in your 20s

I think back in those days drivers shat their pants every time they read "Venezuela" on the rear wing of the car in front.
That fucker Crashtor Maldonado worst F1 driver ever. So glad the day he was gone. Hes synonym for stool.
@@DMalek and the new stool is verstappen no?
@@heizersmidt I don't really think so though
@@heizersmidt Calling Verstappen that only shows how stupid you are in comprehension and analysis.

Dunning Kruger effect much?
EDIT: Not Dunning-Kruger effect but I meant selective perception.
There are still a couple of gems out there. Kevin Magnusson, Crashtappen, Grosjean.
Grosjean is one of the worst drivers in F1. Don't know how he manages to stay in F1. Maybe he has a lot of money.
I think at least 50% of the Monaco race broadcast needs to be from onboard footage because it's super entertaining even if no overtakes happen.
Underrated comment. So sick of the race directing these days. But hey happy to show crowd shots at key moments. Or lance stroll
@@iplayeddsharpminor Monaco's broadcast is done by the circuit itself, rather than the more experienced FOM. This is why it's the worst out of all the tracks.
@@colonelarmfeldt8572 I was aware of this but it is still a recurring issue across the entire season.
Agreed
Gosh, you really need big balls to drive around this track
Artur Kinzel no need for balls u can't have any what t so ever
for a lower centre of gravity as well
Well weigh the car down
On the contrary, the smaller the better. The track is very tight.
And this is now. How about in the old days when they had a gear lever..
I think red bull are still looking for Riccardo's tyres
F1 Fan very original
F1 Fan oh c'mon, I'm tyred of that joke.
Angga Pratama this is wearing me out
Pretty bald move to make such a joke don't you think?
I didn't get the joke but laughed anyways. The whole structure just suggested that it is funny. Can anyone explain please? :D
I could watch that whole race from this angle.
To paraphrase Nelson piquet racing at Monaco is like trying to ride a bike in your living room
Isn't it a unicycle whilst juggling in your living room?
Piquet isn't in this video, but he did crash both times he raced at Monaco, although in 2009 it was the fault one Seb Buemi
@@Duval-In-The-Wall I believe it was Nelson Senior who said that, I could be wrong though. Anyways, his father was not much more successful in Monaco. He managed to finish only 3 races, out of 12.
penusliski
Right haha. Like father like son
Riding a bike in the living room really doesn’t sound all that scary.
That was pretty smart of lewis to slow down when the force india crashed, I bet many of the inexperienced drivers would've immediately gone for the gap and crashed into the other car.
M P he's a three time world champ for a reason, an absolute legend!
M P it didn't work out for Hamilton though. when he slowed down he got hit in the rear by the cars bunching up behind him and ended up with a damaged rear wing. luckily McLaren got it fixed in time for the restart.
He was in a no win situation. He had to back off but the cars behind him probably didn't see what he needed to slow down for so didn't expect him to back off.
M P force India is shit
Di Resta or Hulk? Whoever it was should have been penalized post race for blocking after he had clear suspension damage. No need to stay on the racing line at half speed and impede racing.
Sutil
0:19 how close I am to losing my shit as a Mclaren supporter this year
Javier Fernández I'm more at 1:15
I'm trying to be like Hamilton, patient. With Hondas Engine 1:18 to 1:29
lmao!!
You still have a long way to go then.
True fans are loyal.
The blown diffuser sound on downshift so amazing.
It was even more incredible in person
1:20 I'd've gone in there and crashed.
I think it could've just about fitted
I'dn't've done that, probably
We really didn’t appreciate the V8 era when it was with us
the v6 switch was when I stopped following F1.
True. The cars always sounded great till the hybrid era. Ironically the hybrids would leave the V8's in the dust.
@@Tommyjet18 nobody cares
I did. But V12 and V10 were way better. I still remember I could ear the sound of the engines during the warm up of sunday morning, and I lived 10km far from Monza.
Well probbaly sya the same thing about V6s when/if f1 goes electric
April 2022 anyone? Just curious to see if it was randomly recommended to anyone else 😂
1:18 Hamilton Jedi sense ish to hold back there.
The fact the right rear tire was coming off on the car in front of him made holding back the obvious choice.
You're making something very simple and obvious sound much more impressive than it is.
Or yk, did what anyone with half a brain would do and hold back from a car he literally just saw nail the barriers on the exit of Tabac?
Nice to hear from all the former F1 drivers. So much experience here
@@lanesplitter8723 You'd be surprised at how many F1 drivers would shoot that gap. But not you of course, since you have 11 years of experience behind the wheel of an F1 car. You would never make that mistake.
Wow he actually made 2 passes on one lap in monaco. Thats impossible.
backmarkers, look at blue flags/lights code
no, that’s necessary
Car ahead of him did same. And I'm worried that it was Maldonado
@@hendranhw60 They werent back markers, both overtakes were for position. Hamilton was in a right scrap at the end of the race. The leaders of the race (Vettel, Alonso and Button) were right behind this pack which is why the blue flags were out
well technically he passed 1 guy and the other crashed.. Not a big deal to pass someone who is no longer racing..
If Hamilton doesn't win the championship this year, could you have Nico Rosberg do the podium interviews for the championship decider? That would be pure comedic gold
If Rosberg hadn't won the championship he'd still be driving.
YRS2703 even better if he doesn't win it but gets a podium
Viridis no shit sherlock
Rosberg talk's shit all the time
Allure Lane And Hamilton doesn't?
That sound😍😍😍
I am brazilian, every time i look at Monaco Circuit i remember Ayrton Senna. I am really glad Hamilton loves Senna. Hamilton is a great driver too
1:08 - Hamilton applies the throttle early, spins the rear wheels to put heat in the tyre, transferring weight to the rear. He digs into the rubberised corner exit racing line for maximum traction, which locks the differential to slingshot him out
that's exactly what I thought when I saw it haha! Thanks for your insight, very interesting
This is fancy way of saying that he applied throttle and KERS.
It's actually mindblowing to see the use of a barrier as some kind of a curb to turn the car in while overtaking. It isn't the fastest way possible, but it surely helps to stay on the inside line with Grosjean alongside while maintaining healthy minimum speed. Brilliant move by Maldonado.
This kid Hamilton, I see some potential there ...
I wonder what he could do in the future! ;)
@@dianamaioru497 he could maybe achieve 9 world champions i think
@@nxxm9507 I think so too!
Nah, he’s Maxed out.

1:10 That rev limiter + KERS = eargasm! The whole onboard was pure joy with that heavenly Vodafone McLaren Mercedes which was always the best sounding car on the grid until the V6 came!
That force india driver is plain nuts though. He crashed into the wall & continues to drive on 3 tires XD
F1JunGT alonso drove on two wheels lol in azerbaijan 2018
Alonso didn't do it on the racing line while cars travelling 3 times as fast were trying to get past though.
I preferred the days when there where no rev limiters and they peaked out at 18,000rpm + the V8's sounded abit flat once rev limiters where introduced around 2009 but still they sounded a million times better then the V6 Hybrid bullshit we have now.
the V8 sounds a lot better but to be fair the V6 doesn't sound that bad
It was Di riesta
The skills of a 7 time world champion...!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, during that time he only won the 2008 world championship. So I wouldn’t exactly put that out with this context.

"Lewis, remember to breathe at some point".....That was a mental lap!.....
I love the sound of these pre-hybrid engines.
RUclips in 2021: Lest recommend this!
0:17 such a satisfying downshift, man I wish FIA either went to the v8s or v10s nowadays. Either way Lewis is a great driver, huge fan of him!!
Yes i dont like the v6 but they are trying to fix that apparently to make the sound of F1 come back and lewis is one of my alltime favorites too
Back when Formula 1 cars sounded like Formula 1 cars.
the front tires look so skinny now
RD Infern0 in comparison to 2017? They haven't been as wide since 1992
PS3GameProductions i think he means they look skinny in this video compared to 2017.
PS3GameProductions yes, that's what I meant. The 2017 tires make the 2011 tires look so narrow
That's because they were indeed too skinny :P
They weren't skinny enough.
1:29 was a sweet f*cking move!!!
1:10 : Priceless !
He did that in Monaco and yet they say it the car
Well done for putting all of this quality footage up Formula 1. Really appreciate the new approach to your intellectual property.
Congrats to Crashtor. Passed two cars in one lap and left Lewis with a Force India roadblock. Good stuff, wished he stayed longer in F1 he was great value...for the spectators.
Man, these guys are masters of their craft, and Lewis especially so
0:41 Nice reactions to go for the gap!
Yes, Maldonado was right up against the wall so that was brave stuff. I always thought it sucked that Hamilton took out Maldonado after the red flag; he didn't put a foot wrong the entire race in one of the worst cars on the grid.
Wasn't it Maldonado who turned in on Hamilton?
And the Stewards agreed with me because Hamilton ended up being given a 20 second penalty for the incident. (In fairness he had also crashed Massa out earlier on and that may have been a factor) But it's ancient history now and Maldonado's career is over now anyway.
Okay, I didn't know that. I see.
if you don't go for a gap that exists you are no longer a racing driver
The mad thing for me is how they can’t see their front wing but can go within a few cms of the car in front without touching.
That’s called knowing your car after driving a car so much you get a eye for it
"They" does not include Maldonado i presume?
@@Markbabb yeah I know that but I still find it crazy, especially at the speeds they go. It’s hard to see a road car’s distance sometimes going at like 2mph
@@Markbabb Wow, such insight....
That's why he's the best f1 driver ever. Love the sound of that engine. Now that's a real engine.
So that's why he is the best ever? 🤦♂️

He's still flat out even though the safety car is out 😂
Trying to get to the safety car line before the safety car does, means he can box and not lose time
Monaco is still my favorite circuit on the calendar. Drivers can make more of a difference because you need absolute focus and endurance and slower cars can defend with track position.
@0:46 one hand on the wheel around the hairpin, so cool
That Force India couldn't of made it harder for Lewis to pass even if he tried
These downshifts sound were 😍
That Sound😍
Down march 🥰🥰
Sharp driving from LH!
1:18 I woulda crashed trying to pass him
I could watch this all day.
I miss that glorious sound.
it is Mate. The engines are the instruments
Downshifts sound so awesome due to the blown diffuser. That slapping sound is essentially the hot air from the exhaust bouncing off the body-work/under-tray of the car.
This was definitely hair raising and hectic! Lewis was attacking what was in front of him but he was also getting pressure from behind, which eventually lead to that big crash in the swimming pool area. He got a love tap on the rear and had to change the entire rear wing, under the red flag. He almost didn't make the restart.
Great footage again!
Those downshifts is like hearing an AK-47 shooting fires
1:45
I don't know how anyone can not like Monaco. It's batshit crazy to drive an F1 car around this track how can anyone not enjoy seeing that.
@zak it's hard to overtake everywhere. You think watching pushbutton fly bys is "exciting"?
Can you upload the onboard of Fernando Alonso's lap from Q1 at Monaco in 2011 please? I watched it live on the TV broadcast and I remember being blown away by his commitment through the final sector despite having to pass several cars on warm up or slow down laps. But I haven't been able to find it since.
I think it would be a really good illustration of the special challenge of the Monaco Grand Prix circuit.
If the lap from 2011 doesn't look particularly impressive, maybe I got the year wrong. He's definitely driving a Ferrari though.
I'd just like to point this out: notice how Maldonado can't be seen by the time Hamilton overtakes the Force India
BRING BACK OLD ENGINES THEY SOUND SO NICE
That steering input is on point. Constantly micro adjusting and never over correcting. Lewis has text book precision
I just turned the volume up ... that sound
Notice the humour in the title?

couple of beautiful moments there. To bad we've lost this sound. Next year the cars are allowed to make more sound again. Hope the engineers will do a terrific job, so we can finish watching a whole race again and don't fall asleep halfway, like i do now ;-)

Back when Monaco was actually fun to watch, now its just a parade
That blown diffuser down shift sound is fucking gorgeous

Clever driving being wary of the damaged Force India, a lesser driver would have got taken out.
Those were some mighty overtakes by Maldonado too.

this is my first time commenting so please bring back this real F1 engine sound please thank you 4 ur time
What it's actually hair raising is that engine sound. It never gets old
I like that double Yellow, SC sign out, and he keeps pushing without consequence :D Judges were more flexible.
God damn this guy's fast
I remember watching a Lewis Hamilton interview before & he was talking about Monaco & he said that when the car was in the dark tunnel it's doing nearly 160 mph and the front left wheel needs to be one inch from the wall to get the perfect exit to get out of the tunnel as fast as possible.... These F1 driver's have ball's of steel mate!!!
Lewis Hamilton, so much potencial in this legend.
Miss this track in GT...Very narrow, hairpin turns as well...Takes a lot of skill.
