I recently had a book published called, "Figure It out: Human Proportions." It's a great guide that will enable you to draw the head and body correctly every time. In this video, I'll give you a taste of the first chapter, where I cover the proportions of the head. These are just a few of the essential proportions of the head as seen from a front view. I hope this is helpful. - Хобби
It was very helpfull when trying to get the proportions in my auto-portrait
The 'how to' videos are super, but these 'why to' really help me. Thanks.
I'm glad you click with them.
Thanks! At least an easy way to learn the head proportions valid for a lot of drawing styles! Great video! 😍
you are left handed! it made my day to see another left handed artist :))
You're not alone!
Mari in Wonderland
Mari in Wonderland i'm left handed
Mari in Wonderland I am left handed
I'm left handed!
Thank you! I just ordered two of your books, very excited to read them. :)
+Wysidia Thank you very much. You can post some of your sketches to my FB page, if you'd like to, and I'll comment on them.
Once again, you give us a lot of great tips, Chris. Thank you very much!
Nacho Blanco Nooooooo problem, my friend!
I love how you make it look really easy, it makes me feel motivated
Glad to hear it.
ordered your book coming next month and your drawing is awsome
+Rajani Gyanchandani Thank you very much -- I think you will find it very useful, and it should help you improve very fast.
As an absolute beginner who was deemed hopeless at drawing in primary school and has never held a pencil in his hand since, I learned a lot from this video lesson. Videos often show what books never can, but I would definitely get these books, and I probably will. These are books every kid should try. Especially those who, like myself, were told they could never do it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
+mothman84 thanks a lot. You sound inspired to draw!
+Christopher Hart You're very welcome! And yes, to my own surprise I am! I'm thirty-one, but I've been drawing _only_ for the last three days. Before that, I never suspected it could happen. Again, thank you. Have a great day!
Your videos are so helpful 😊 and the way you speak is so simple and beautiful! And you're a fellow lefty!
Thank you very much for those kind words.
This is a natural. What an artist! Left handed as well. This guy made me the center of attention on many of my classes. I draw male faces all he time and he just helped me so much. Subscribe to him, just like I did, and don't forget to hit the bell! He's awesome and will help you. (Btw check his book, it's awesome!)
Thank you for that nice comment!
Handy tutorial, this. Subscribed!
I have a couple of your books including the figuring out anatomy love your work.
Caigul Thank you very much!
hi christopher. i wanted to say how much i admire your art and thank you for al the drawing tutorials you have been sharing with the world. i can see only ten precent of what a normal person can see but i love drawing so much that i have never stopt trying to create what comes to mind. you have made it posible for me to learn more because of the easy steps and coments. and that is what makes me a big fan of yours. the most besar part of it all is that without knowing, i have had 9 books of yours. i spent many hours drawing examples as art practice by choosing images from them ;). funny that i never made the connextion up to now. i will be buiying some new books in the near future. once again thank you sooo much. for making it posible for me to learn more about the tecnical side of drawing. aspecialy because of the fact that i am not able to see depth and details ;)
bright blessings to you and yours
Tereza
Hi, Aella, I applaud you for pursuing your creativity, despite your challenges. I might also recommend that you try some cartooning styles that use somewhat less detail, which may be easier to see. These styles are nonetheless packed with personality and very popular. I refer to "Kawaii" and "chibi," two manga styles, or the retro style of Western cartoons. Take care.
;) thank you for your kind words and i wil see if i can bye the books with the stiles you mentioned. ;) art is and will always be my life ;) so as long as i can i wil keep at it ;).
Thank you once again and bright blessings.

This is perfect! Thank you so much for doing this. I've been reading books but they are SO TECHNICAL, which is a good thing, but difficult for me. I'm a "show, don't tell" kind of learner, and you just made my day!
I like to keep my books clearer. so many art books cover 85 techniques on a single page. you can't retain the information that way.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, this improved my drawing dramaticly and helped me start of, you are the best
That's great to hear. Thanks.
Very helpful video Chris. In the future, could you do a video on drawing the head in the 3/4 view? Have a lot of trouble with that one. Thanks.
Roman Ross Great suggestion, Roman. It is now on my list.
Thank you! I'll definitely look into purchasing your book! :)
Thank you.
that video is so much help!!! thank you
Glad you enjoyed it.
You are a wealth of information and talent, thank you so much for sharing it with the world! Also, Your books are great but personally I learn better from demonstration, so thank you for uploading these videos!
+Lilllie B. My pleasure - thanks for watching.
I drew this a lot and thank you for you I started to draw great faces. You explain very well! Better than other artists in the world. Even if other ones draw more pretty, but you draw AND explain so other ones can learn to draw. You are amazing Mr. Hart!
Glad I could help!
Great . helped me a lot
thanks so much for your help you helped me with my first portrait thanks your so good
+Liam Ireland My pleasure.
I LOVE YOU'R ART!😊

What a completely odd coincidence I didn't realize when I clicked on this video it'd be THAT Christopher Hart! I already own one of your books! (manga and anime anatomy)
Well, thank you for visiting, and for being a viewers AND one of my readers!
omg i have your "How to draw animation" book and i love it
Thanks - that was a fun book to do, but it's pretty old now. I hope you'll check out some of my newer titles.
Oh I also just bought your "Manga for beginner" Book too and i love it. Expecially the drawing of the Deer like thank you for that ♡ Christopher Hart
I bought your book (Figure It Out - Human Proportions) and I'm finding it very helpful. What I'm struggling with is the initial shape of the head. It's proving tricky to accurately reproduce and lacks a defined width/height relationship. Most tutorials draw a circle for the top of the head and have centre lines that protrude from the circle at certain lengths. If you get that initial 'egg' shape wrong the rest of the features don't fall into place correctly. Any tips?
The egg shape is only an approximation. Think of the head shape as a starting point to be carved subtly into someone's head and face. The proportions are the key to keeping it looking real, not the head shape. There are "block"-type heads and heads with pointed chins, but the proportions remain the same.
This is very helpful! Thanks ;D
Thank you.
I BOUGHT ONE OF YOU BOOKS AND I LOVE IT!!!!! I REALLY RECOMENDE BUYING IT IT REALLY HELPED ME❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much for that!
The drawing is so wonderful
Thank you for the nice words.
This is so helpful, thank you so much. My first sketch of a man looks kind of nice :D

Theres only one word for this. Amazing.
Forever Nayelli Thanks a lot.
Can u do a tutorial on how to draw one eye the same size as the other
+Tedworth Good suggestion!
AAAHHH I have that book!!! Its my favorite drawing book😂❤️
Thanks a lot.
I NEED THIS BOOK i draw most of my time
+OnlineLiorGaming Thanks - I think you'll find it very useful.
what pencil did you use?
I use an HB Staedtler Mars Lumigraph.
Omg I have your book
Thank you very much - and thanks for watching my videos.
can we also do inking???
Sure, but we create from scratch with pencil, so I like to concentrate on pencil to give viewers the techniques.
Thank you so much for the help. I couldn't find a simple video for drawing a mans face until I came upon this. It helped a lot because before this I only knew how to draw female faces so most of my men drawings turned out to look very feminine. It was a good video and I think it could help anyone because I'm 13 and mine turned pretty good, well at least I think so. Thanks again!
+Kathryn Carlson Im so glad. Proportions are so important. You can take an entire life drawing class and never learn them, which is why I created my book, "Figure It Out: human Proportions." Keep drawing!
hi
what kind of pencils do you use?
+Carter Petry Staedtler B Mars Lumograph.
+Christopher Hart Thanks love this video
+Christopher Hart where did u find these, they're very expensive
+Carter Petry I got them on Amazon. You have to look for them very specifically, because the company puts out several types with similar brand names.
thanks
i want to draw it very well
+Som Rostmey You can post the picture to my FB, and I'll take a look at it.
You drew that faster than I clicked.
Whoa! I'd better slow down, thanks.
sir, how do you only have to erase once in this video. When I'm drawing I erase up to 10 times on a single line, I'm beginning to lose confidence in my drawing skill. My mom says that I'm a really good drawer but it's only because she's my mom. Should I keep practicing or stop because drawing is what I do when I'm bored or making a character for a game that I'm going to play outside.
+Kaden Bujan Kaden, erasing is an absolutely essential part of drawing. If you're not erasing, you're not trying new things. Don't change your approach; you're doing fine!
Yes sir plz drawing slowly
Can you draw this but is looks like digital painting?
It's all hand drawn.
@@ChristopherHartbooks i understand :)
Hey I have one of your books
Thank you!
Are you left-handed? :)
greenfoliage You bet. Are you?
greenfoliage no he was free handing it with us left
How much does the book cost
+Daliannis algegira I believe it's under twenty dollars.
it is so hard for me to write with my left hand
Yikes! I'm not suggesting that you switch drawing-hands. I can't draw with my right hand!
i can draw girls very good .. but i always had a problem in drawing a man ... Thank you very much ❤ you helped me a lot
+Ghanoosh El Shamiye Sure thing, glad it helped.
i always mess up my drawing when i try to add beard and mustache. need a video based on that.
That's the second suggestion i've gotten for that in a few days. It's on my list!
Ok
wow a left handed artist
I'm impressed by "righties"...!
i like your picture
+Som Rostmey Thanks.
Plzzz teach how to draw a full man
I'm got a number of them on my channel, and I'm taping more right now, so stay tuned!
Christopher Hart
What Pencil Do You Use?
Tom Lad Fir publishing, an HB Staedtler. But for demos, Prismacolor black pencils.
Christopher Hart Ok Thanks!
I'm using this for my project and its good my teacher said hey that is very nice and I wanna draw again but put like a weird beard and four limbs
Good luck with it!
My guy turned out kinda sad looking, but then a bit less so when i gave him glasses :P gud video tho im really bad at drawing but i liked what i produced watching this, thanks :)
+Garrett Keane No one gets it right the first time. That's what trash cans are for - and I've certainly got one in my studio!
Why is ur pencil drawing blue on paper?
Can you show how to draw a face from a picture?
+jithin presannan Sure, good suggestion, thanks.
Christopher Hart
I always have a hard time drawing the nose and the positions.
Lmao how do you make it look so easy
is that soupER man? ^^
No, just an average guy - average looking people are best for demonstrating proportions.
i have that book which is also how i found out about u
Thank you!
Draw Draw darker please I can’t barely see it
I've made that adjustment to my newer videos, so I hear ya.
Say Chris, could you draw a woman figure much like your Fashion Design Studio?
Thanks
Russell Scott Yes, Russell, I've done several, which are in my video backlog, which you can view. But I taped one recently, which I will upload this Friday.
Christopher Hart Thanks Chris. I'll be looking for them.
ok but why did it look a bit like john cena before he added the eyebrows
wow nice pic
+Portia Effay Danso Thanks a lot.
How draw young man?
If you check out my backlog of videos, you'll find a lot of them. I hope you'll check them out.
Bruh
Went a bit fast for a How to video.
I hard time draw male body
It has its complexities. I think the best way to learn is to first understand the proportions. I did a book called, "Figure It Out: Human Proportions." it might help you.
i don't know draw hair cuts for male.
I have a chapter on them in my book, "Cartoon Faces."
i am left hand and you
Same.
oh 😄
I hard time drawing male body.
I'll post some more on that.
It is either that I am just really bad at drawing or.....I'm really bad at drawing. :-(
+Autum April No, no, no -- Please don't think that way. This takes time. Look for progress in smaller steps, instead of an overall leap.
Your book might be much better, but I think this video goes waaaaay too fast to follow for a beginner.
+Salomon Meij I've got a lot of other that are slower. I don't want to go too slow, to lose people's interest. But thanks for your comment. I can do some more that slow it down a bit.
I can draw teen boys and young men.
I hard time drawing male face
My suggestion is to focus on the correct placement and position of the features (proportions) rather than fine tuning the details.
