- In this video, I'll teach you how to draw and measure out basic facial proportions that will help you begin mapping out a portrait. You'll learn the general proportions of the face, along with techniques for measuring your own unique features.
This is an updated version of my 2014 tutorial on proportions.
2 yrs later, after you posted this video, I find it on you tube or, I should say it shows up. You are the first person I've seen doing teaching on drawing portraits that has took the time to talk about how to get facial proportions right, or very close, for an accurate drawing! Thank you! I've saved your video for future reference. I don't do much drawing since it's just a pasttime for me and a source of unwinding. Also, I don't recall any books discussing what you've covered ( I'm pretty much self taught thru art teaching books ). By the way, you happen to be a very beautiful young lady. Thank you again for the video. This old man has learned something no one else has brought up. But I did know about using pencil for measuring...just never put the full ' picture ' together.
I just started drawing, and very soon I became "pretty good", as some of my friends saw examples; but for love of God I couldn't draw faces, portraits, (nose ,eyes ears ,lips just wasn't able to get it right); I wanted to figure out and do it without help, watching videos or asking anyone/which ended with full bucket of unsuccessful projects. I even became mad; asking my self how can I draw everything else except portraits of faces, until I finally decided to check it out and your clip came first. I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH . I did visit your web site and sent you email if you are taking any online tutorials. I'd be honored to take few and pay fair price. I AM WISHING YOU HEALTHINESS, HAPPINESS AND AS WELL TO ALL YOUR LOVED ONES. I AM WISHING THE SAME TO ALL PEOPLE THAT ARE SUBED AND TRUOUTH THE WHOLE WORLD.
Thank you so much. I was doing a drawing but the proportions was not nice so this video comes to me at right time.
What a great instructor. Thank you for walking us through the basic proportions of the face. Super helpful for me as I am a beginner. Great job on being patient and taking time to create this video. I'm subscribed now!

Amazing tutorial on face proportions. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for posting this. My daughter was very frustrated after missing the proportions instruction in her art class. Your tutorial was perfect and exactly as I remembered it years ago when I learned portraiture. No surprise you are an Art teacher/professor! Well done.
Miss Hopper is a wonderful teacher! She has explained and illustrated face proportions so that it makes sense and is totally doable by a novice.
You’re a great teacher. Just starting to learn to draw and your videos are a god send. Keep it up 👍
Very helpful video. It will help me struggle less with proportions.😊
Thank you for the videos!
You are my favorite art teacher on RUclips. I really appreciate the art lessons. ❤
thank you so much. this is the only technique that’s actually made sense to me! i’ve been drawing for years but usually skip out on the “rules” of drawing a face cause it was confusing but this really helped me.

You are amazing ❤️❤️❤️🍀🥰Thanks a lot for your time 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks so much. This totally improved my drawing! especially since I haven't done realistic drawing in years.
This really helped a lot as a intermediate artist I have issues with placements with proportions
I love your voice, very reassuring. I also enjoy the pace you draw for students. Please though do not be so hard on yourself . Your very talented.
I can just.... "Eyeball it"..... 😁
Officially adore you.
You're a good teacher and your contributions matter. Thank you
I've followed your lessons for a while and did the old and the new facial proportions this afternoon; wonderful, a huge help. For such confidence as an art teacher, you should be more confident in your looks! I'll be digging in on all your lessons, hoping that practice makes progress.

Yo, this is some good shit keep up the great work!
Thankyou. Could you do another video on shading . I watch the one you did with one pencil that was amazing . You explained that no part of the paper should be left white. I got it thanks . I still need a bit more help with shading. Love how you explain the steps. Thankyou
Thank you. That's awesome.
Very to the point. Thanks
I ant believe youre still making videos! Its been so long!!
thank you for this!
💯🔥🔥 , thank you .
So dope!!! Loved the jokes too 🔥🔥
FINALLY. SOMEONE APPRECIATES MY JOKES.
Thank u so much
Thats a great portrait you did of yourself A true beauty! Great explanation of all the relational proportions. Now I need to memorize these. I wrote them down, at least most of them. Is it much different when using photo references? In that case should you start with an egg shape?
Love you so much
Thank you!
Vous êtes charmante et très belle, merci de partager vos connaissances avec nous.
Why do I keep getting it wrong even when trying my best to measure and lay out the guidlines? 🥲
do you happen to have courses on udemy? it would be awesome a full program
Wow
I love your eye balling it joke lol
It was helpful. I put like, but you could make shorter duration of the video. 1st 3 minutes just talking without essential info. I saw videos twicely shorter with more explanation on facial proportions.
U can always just skip that part you know it's not like she is forcing you to watch that segment.
What happened to the nose?

I find your pencil marks are so faint that I have to move my laptop screen back and forth so many times after all it's a
