Love the “construction dots” & how you give the context of it being a simplification of the Loomis method. This makes so much sense to me. Also I appreciate how you clearly tell us to let the paint dry before proceeding.
I loved the tip to start with a circle with a central point. It makes a lot of sense both as a drawing reference, as well as for correctly positioning the centre of interest.
It's lovely to see someone teaching freehand drawing so clearly. Too many people new sketching believe it's beyond them and opt for tracing/grinds instead.
The approach with the 4 points as a reference point for a circle and building up the other points for nose, jaw etc. is very good and memorable. Many thanks for the great tutorial.
You made this look so accessible. A few dots! Who knew! I have to try this right away. I’m hoping to get much more human looking faces from now on 😁. Thank you so much.
I love the style, and the real time creation is incredibly compelling. The first of many artist RUclipsrs I've watched to give me hope that I could (eventually) do something like it myself. Plus a wonderful 'joy of painting' vibe, bonus!
This is a great tutorial, Thank you so much! I really like how much she feels like the person in the photo. It's amazing how you achieved it with such a simple composition. - I'm very glad to have found your channel!
Ive been watching your vids for more than a week now. This is what I needed to understand the proportions, your technique is great and simple. Thanks !
Wow... Best tutorial I've seen. I can only make a face forward facing. I've watched the Loomis way of drawing faces but yours makes so much sense. I didn't think of a square inside of a circle
Great job! I failed on the jawline and nose on the first go around but nailed it the second time. I love following along and doing these at my lunch break. Keep em coming!
I love using loose sketchy pen with watercolor! It's great to see someone doing this! I will definitely be watching your videos! I could use some improvement! I haven't done many paintings with people.
Wow! I’ve had many drawing classes in the past and could never catch on. I feel I can try your method and have a face look like a person instead of an alien. Thank you so much for these wonderful methods. I will try again now that your method has inspired me. During all my watercolors, I would avoid people…now to try again.
I really love this loose look. i've been learning to to draw from life models for. a few years and I'm thinking this may be a much nicer technique to try.
Thanks Scottie, complete novice but managed to follow along and create something I’m quite proud of! Still miles away. But thank you so much for these videos, great teacher
Wow, Thank you so much Scottie. You are awesome and I have never seen a better tutorial to analyse and explain in such clear detail, follow the dots, how to approach a portrait of this difficultly. Only a joke about the follow the dots; you make it look relatively easy, at least possible with practice, but your artist skills are amazing. Thank you so much for generously sharing your drawing and water colour techniques. ❤❤❤
I followed along and, while it certainly was not a masterpiece, this method helped me produce a portrait much better than any of my previous attempts. Thank you for sharing this great method for portraiture!
Wonderful lesson. Great concepts demonstrated and verbally described clearly and succinctly. I'm very much looking forward to my first attempt at following your method as opposed to feeling daunted . Thank you sincerely.
WOW!!!!! This is just amazing, the way you explain, there is technique behind even though you seem to put it easy! Thank you so much I cant wait to try this!,!!!! Thank youuu❤
Such a good tutorial. I particularly love to sketch my cat(s) when they’re on my lap again. Had to move to another place last year and my cats are mostly in hiding or on my lap so I can’t sketch them otherwise, I have sheets covering their scratching posts and furniture because they are very scared and love to hide. I actually moved into a building that was a hair dresser at one point and the window goes outward on an angle, resulting in the curtain being far from the window. One of the 2 cats has realized she is safe there and almost lives there full time but I either live completely visible for everyone to see inside or I don’t see her so I almost exclusively sketch her sister but time and time again she will change her head angle or posture so I hope I can use these tips to have the outline of her posture before time has run out yet again 😂 Also, you have given me a desire to try out sketching portraits with this very clear step by step tutorial with doable steps, with clear instructions on what to focus on (and therefor, what not, I tend to loose myself in the details with everything and already know I need to focus on proportions before the details but this makes it easier to determine which details are the important bits for those rough outlines (out-dots??) and the most crucial part for me is by doing so, you also give me a very necessary guideline of where those important details stop or where they become less important. I can’t do this tutorial now but I have saved it because this really is the best one I have found (although I must admit I haven’t exactly been searching for them because I am at a different stage of my sketching life but portraits and in particular expressions are getting more and more interesting to me so I might not have been looking at a lot of them but your teaching style is so clear and motivating that I don’t really feel the need to search for others for now until I’ve done this one and practice these tips on other faces -as well as cats lol- so thank you)
Love your vids. They are always truly instructive, with very clear and simple instructions, unlike others which are just a recording of the drawing. Thanks.
Very inspiring! So first of all, it is super hard to do these lines, especially human shapes, in one go without a sketch. The method with the dots is very helpful! :) Second, I love the style, because my own lines are always way too clean and have zero dynamic, while this is the exact opposite. I hope I can learn to draw more more like you. I also just love how these very loose lines and the water colour become something very lively at the end. It's a wonderful process, thank you for sharing!
You always make me want to go straight to my studio and draw.
yay go for it!🙌🏼
Absolutely happens with me 😊
And me too 😍🤝 Happy painting! 🎨
Thanks 🙏🏼 love the steps
Very helpful
And Dots thing

I watched a lot of your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I;m in my 70s and just started sketching , I'm mesmerized by what you've just done. Will now slowly try and copy you.
Exactly like you. Just starting to learn now in retirement. This step by step process is really working. Slows everything down to little doable steps.
Wow ! you're just amazing.Really I mean it . I have learnt a lot . Thank you .Lots of love❣from India.
It's lovely to see someone teaching freehand drawing so clearly. Too many people new sketching believe it's beyond them and opt for tracing/grinds instead.
Nice sketch! My sketches are good but I want to learn how to do this awesome loose sketching without losing the image…thanks for sharing your method!

Wonderful demo, I'm going to try it out with a project I was thinking off

Such a clear lesson on drawing. Thank you so much.
Just found you on RUclips and immediately subscribed. I struggle with loomis terribly and this seems so much easier!

I will too. Simple directions, easy to follow ✅
I love the use of the dots that you use. Very helpful. I dont know what it is with the loomis method, but i cannot make a pretty girl.

Very simple and good explanation. I can learn to draw with you. Thank you!

yay that's great to hear!!🙌🏼
Excellent proportion demonstration. I teach drawing and it's shockingly elusive for many artists.

I love this tutorial and your descriptive commentary. I love watercolor paints but am never able to do it w/o mistakes. I think this method will help.
I've been drawing for a long time (not saying I'm any good), you've streamlined the process very nicely! Going to try your wy.
sweet and fun yet precise and clear tutorial . thank you for sharing .
Awesome! The nose part was the most difficult though
I followed along and, while it certainly was not a masterpiece, this method helped me produce a portrait much better than any of my previous attempts. Thank you for sharing this great method for portraiture!

What a great way of teaching to drown 👍 👍 thank you so much, I love it a lot 👍 💐
OMG this is the first structure guideline that actually seems performable for me. Usually I get the theory, but my hand doesn't obey.
Lovely. My homeschool students and I enjoy watching your sketching videos. You inspire us to create.
thanks Belle!
Wow! Beautiful work.
I wish if l was talented like you are!!! I am going to give it a try.
All the steps explained very clearly.
Thanks a lot.
Such a good tutorial.

Beautiful in its simplicity. But not remotely easy! Maybe if I follow more of your tutorials, the principles will be clearer.

Yes, you have kept the "life" while still getting proportions right. So difficult, but the result looks so easy.
I’m learning the Loomis Method… your process is brilliant!! I’m going to try this. New to your channel, thank you!
Really great lesson, thanks. I’m currently doing a challenge of a portrait a day for a month. I’ll add yours in if that’s ok.
Excellent. You make it look so easy!
The points were brilliant. Curious to learn more!! 😎
